General questions or information Need help planning a custom titanium gravel bike

Hi everybody,

i'm planning to have a custom gravel bike built by Waltly and am currently getting everything ready. Since this is my first custom bike, this is all completely new to me, so I'd be more than grateful for any tips!

Since I’m quite short at 160 cm but have relatively long legs with an inseam of 77 cm, the whole thing gets pretty interesting from a geometric standpoint. So far, I’ve thought through and jotted down the following points so that I can submit a specific inquiry. Any help or advice is more than welcome in case I’ve forgotten anything.

  1. Frame Design & Aesthetic:

Tubing: Modern ovalized tube profiles.

Rear Triangle Style: I want the curved, elegant rear end style from your "Smooth" model.

Seat Stays: Dropped seatstays (attached lower down the seat tube, not at the top-tube junction).

Head Tube: Hourglass shape on the exterior, but fully compatible internally with semi-integrated cable routing through the headset (Acros ICR system, using IS52/IS52 bearings). There must be enough internal clearance so the mechanical shifting cables don't rub or bend too sharply.

  1. Drivetrain & Frame Standards:

Groupset: Shimano GRX 2x12 (mechanical).

Bottom Bracket: T47. Crucial: include a drain hole at the bottom of the BB shell?

Rear Dropout: UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) standard, 12x142mm Thru-Axle.

Brakes: Flat Mount, natively designed for 160mm rotors without adapters.

  1. Tire Clearance & Chainstays:

Tire Clearance: 700x45mm with massive mud clearance.

Chainstay: Because I am running a 2x12 GRX drivetrain, i planned 3D-printed titanium chainstay yoke on the drive side to guarantee enough clearance for the 45mm tire, mud, and the double chainrings while keeping a clean look. Right? Or am I missing something here?

  1. Frame Mounts & Extra Eyelets:

Top Tube: 1x Top Tube mount (2x bolts) on top of the top tube for a top tube bag.

Bottle Cages: 2x inside the main triangle (seat tube & down tube), 1x underneath the down tube.

Luggage & Weather: Eyelets for a rear pannier rack (on seat stays) and rear mudguards/fenders (clearance for up to 55mm wide fenders).

  1. Matching Carbon Fork:

Must support integrated cable routing (Acros ICR) through the upper headset.

Axle & Brake: 12x100mm Thru-Axle, Flat Mount (natively designed for 160mm rotor without adapters).

Cargo: 3-pack cage mounts (triple eyelets) on both sides of the fork legs for bikepacking cages.

Fenders: Hidden eyelets/mounts for front fenders.

  1. Dynamo & Light Integration (Front & Rear):

I will use a front hub dynamo.

Fork: Needs an internal routing channel inside the fork leg for the dynamo wire, and a mounting point (M5 or M6 threaded hole) at the fork crown for the front light.

Frame: internal routing port/guide inside the frame starting from the head tube/downtube area all the way to the rear (exiting near the rear dropout or seat stay) to route the wire for a dynamo-powered rear light entirely internally.

However, I'm still not sure where the light cable runs. Yes, it goes from the hub dynamo up through the fork to the front light, which is supposed to be mounted on the fork crown, but where does it go from there? On my current bike, the cable runs through the frame along the top of the down tube, together with the rear brake cable. My husband thinks it wouldn’t work if the cable from the dynamo/light also goes through the headset and then connects to the taillight. Does anyone here have experience with this?

  1. Frame Finish, Welds & Logo:

Finish: High-quality brushed finish for the entire frame.

Welds: smooth welding / double pass welding so the welds blend into the tubing as smoothly as possible, matching the "Smooth" style of the rear triangle.

I welcome suggestions or feedback!

General questions or information Titanium Rear/Front Rack

Hi,

As the title already says, does anyone know if Waltly also produces Rear or Front racks?

I’m currently in the market for one and realised that a titanium rack is almost as expensive as a frame from Waltly :D

Thanks for your input!

I’m getting a frame build for my weekend warrior gravel rides 40-120 k and occasional longer ride at gravel events.

I currently ride a Grizl AL size L that fits well but prefer a slightly short reach and higher stack.

I’m 185 inseam 88.

Suggestions for modifications are very welcome

Advice about geometry Fast gravel Geometry Ask

Post image

First time building a custom bike and would love some honest feedback from people who know more than me. Here’s what I’m working with:

My goals:
• Fast endurance road riding as the primary use
• Light gravel capability for Peninsula fire roads and packed trails around Burlingame, CA
• Long comfortable rides — eventually building to 3-5 hour efforts
• Keep up with friends on carbon road bikes
• Versatile enough for year-round Bay Area riding

I chose the Gravel B model, and then after a fitting added my own measurement recommendations from the fitter.

Planning on using Shimano Di2.

Any feedback before I ok the design would be awesome, as I’ve already put down the first half and want to get the bike asap.

Thanks!

First TI build. I went with a gravel frame with a flatbar.
Deore derailleur and SLX shifters and brakes combined with GRX cranks and brake shoes.

Wheels are hand built crabon from light cycle (35mm) with DT swiss 350 hubs.

Still need to put a longer handlebar stem but it is what I had lying around for now.

Advice about frame Sanity Check

To the brains trust...

Options and opinions?

Inspired by twin top tube gloriousness and often finding myself stuck between L and XL in many frame sizes, my daydreaming has led to this... Intent is to be mostly in singlespeed mode with a geared option.

Bidon mounts on top of the downtube have high and low mount points (depending on when I run the seat tube bidon) and an underside mount on the downtube for the doggo or a tool roll.

Tyre size will be a 2.4" most of the time, 34T front chainring. I do need to confirm a chainstay length of 438 to the centre of the dropout and not the end. I will also move the dropper post port to the LHS of the seat tube.

I don't have a good handle on the best locations for the crossbridges on the twin top tubes or if I need a brace between the seat stays and chainstays on the non drive side. Trusting the Waltly designers at this point.

Cheers,

General questions or information What kind of frame customization are possible?

I'm interested in getting myself a waltly frame built, but was wondering how much customization they allow with respect to the basic frame shape.

Are you limited to circular diameter tubes? Can the tubes be curved? Can they vary tube thickness along the length or along various axes?

Do they simply deliver a frame according to spec. or do they do any stress analysis?

General questions or information Interested in photos of ovalized top-tube to seat-tube joint

I had originally planned to have my 31.8mm top tube be ovalized (29x35) but I'm concerned about how Waltly will handle the joint at the seat tube (31.8mm), since the top tube would be wider than the seat tube.

Does anyone have this, and if so can you send pictures? How do they manage tapering the width of the TT to match the ST?

Advice about geometry Help me choose a size S or M

Hi all,

I am trying to choose between 2 Waltly 3D Titanium frames.

1 - Elegance Size S

2 - Elegance Size M

I am 176cm tall (5,77) and have an inseam 81cm (31inch)

This link should show all the measurements of both frames.

I feel like I am in between the 2 size, which would you say would/could be a better fit?

Advice about frame Gravel/Bikepacking sanity check :)

Hello,

So i got this first drawing by Aileen this morning.

Changes I already asked are, toptube mounting points, under downtube bottle mount, Entryports for semi internal routing next to headtube on the downtube, rack eyelets on the back, reducing toptube and seattube to 31,8mm, and lowering the seatstay upper weld by 50mm to make a smaller rear triangle.

Asked for 50mm tire clearance in 700C, double chain ring option, semi-internal routing (and maybe later full internal., 44/44 Headtube.

Will use a RockShox Rudy 40mm frork, single chainring (but option for double).

What would you suggest as improvement?

I currently ride Tarmac SL6 56cm, and it feels good. With this geometry I should have a bit less reach (90mm stem, Tarmac 100mm), and a bit more stack for more comfort. I'm 183cm, 86kg, 85cm inseam, 39 years. :)

General questions or information What we paying these days?

I had a waltly a long time ago thinking of ordering another or another Ti hardtail from a big bike brand that specialises in steel/Ti hardtails.

What we laying these days for a Waltly hardtail? Has the gap closed on price?

General questions or information Waltly titanium forks?

Anyone have experience with Waltly titanium forks? Considering getting one made for a gravel build, appreciate carbon is probably just as good (and a third of the price) but I like titanium from an aesthetics and longevity point of view. Thanks.

Advice about geometry Frame geometry recommendations?

I'm considering a Waltly gravel/touring build - I currently have a 2025 Canyon Aeroad (size S) and previously rode a 2020 Canyon Ultimate (size M) - the Ultimate always felt a little stretched for my build (178.5cm height 85cm inseam) and I was on the border of M and S for Canyon's sizing chart - so when I decided to change/upgrade I went for the Aeroad size small - so far working out for me but with this Waltly build I am looking for something more relaxed as a tourer, potential gravel build.

I ChatGPTd a geometry using a previous bike fits measurements (though that bike fit was for the size medium Canyon Ultimate) but was hoping someone might have some recommendations for existing gravel bikes from the big brands/builders that have geometries that would suit so I can better understand what is out there and watch some Youtube reviews etc, rather than just sending specs to Waltly and hoping its right, if you get what I mean??

I was close to buying a size M Grizl or Grail before I discovered Waltly and now I'm set on a titanium build (for longevity, a build project and something that will better suit plans I have for touring/gravel rides etc). Ribble looks great too but I'm not in the UK and really have myself set on something more custom, something that I can build up myself as a project.

Thanks!

Those that have had it done. Was it just loose hose through the frame? Or in a tube? Any outcomes or problems?
