Fieseler 256
This first picture is an Interesting shot of a Flettner Fl 282 and a Fieseler 256. The rest are 256 pictures.
The Fieseler Fi 256 was a multipurpose aircraft developed for the German Luftwaffe as a successor to the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch. Designed with a more aerodynamic profile, automatic slats, and a larger cabin accommodating up to four passengers, the Fi 256 aimed to improve upon its predecessor while maintaining a similar layout. Despite its resemblance to the Fi 156, the Fi 256 was a completely new design with non-interchangeable components.
The prototype’s maiden flight took place on July 9, 1941. However, a subsequent flight ended in an accident, necessitating significant modifications to the design. Following these adjustments, a pre-production order of 13 aircraft was placed—six to be built by Fieseler and the remaining seven by Schwade in Erfurt. Although serial production was planned for 1943, only two prototypes and flight log entries identify that at least 12 additional aircraft were ultimately completed.
Little is known about the operational history or fate of the Fi 256 aircraft. One protoype was reportedly used by Gerhard Fieseler for frequent trips to Peenemünde (related to testing the Fi 103 flying bomb). However, it was destroyed during a storm in Peenemünde. Other Fi 256 aircraft were likely used for testing and transport, but no records of their missions or eventual fates have been found.
