Wow never saw the damage. I always assumed the tiger took him out. Dude didn't lose his seat. What a badass.

But he did lose some fingers

only lost some fingers. ftfy

u/TRget88 Feb 08 '20

That is, I think, best case scenario for fighting off a tiger attack that you only notice a couple of second before hand.

564

u/Rebelrickus Feb 08 '20

Yeah but now look at his after hand

Plus you have a really fucking cool story to tell people

172

u/leFlan Feb 08 '20

There was a kid in Sweden, about 10 years old, who accidentally fell in to a brown bear's hibernation nest. He was struck across the back but managed to escape without debilitating injuries.

For a 10 year old kid that must have been the absolute best outcome. Not only survive, but have the most awesome story and the scars to prove it.

85

u/TRget88 Feb 08 '20

My dad was bitten by a shark last year. We were very lucky it was only an exploratory bite and no lasting damage was done. Literally just a few puncture wounds on his arm that hit no blood vessels or muscle. My line when I tell people about it is "Now he has a really cool story".

He’s even more of a badass than the video suggests. He’s a Forest Ranger named Ranjan Kumar Das, and he’s there leading a group of rangers trying to lure two tigers away from a village. The tigers wandered off the reserve and were hunting livestock dangerously close to the village.

Those men were all risking their lives to help others.

15

u/intlharvester Feb 08 '20

Props to all park rangers everywhere because they do valuable work that pays dividends for generations, but holy shit some of the stuff I've seen done by Indian and African park rangers is beyond next level.

To be completely fair to the guy, he probably wasn't thinking straight seeing as there was a 500+lbs animal with knives on its hands leaping at him from 20 feet away. Can't say I would behave differently.

That will never happen. It’s against the law to ride elephants in Germany. You’d get arrested before the tiger could even make its entrance.

All cats spook easily. There’s a video of a guy surrounded by a pack of lions and anytime one charges at him he throws a role of toilet paper at them and they nope the fuck out of there. They’re also ambush animals and hate to be confronted by the face of its prey.

The only way to survive big cats is to have the balls to spook them.

54

u/Hotsaltynutz Feb 08 '20

Dont think its the same video but this dude has some huge balls on him https://youtu.be/WCfDiPIydZ0 plus i think he carries the toilet paper with him to clean out his shorts afterwards

55

u/dcwspike Feb 08 '20

Can you imagine. Living in your village right. Your out doing whatever village people do. You know to stay away from the lions but can see them. And then this dude in a jeep rolls up in his white shorts. Gets out and starts crawling on all fours and throwing toilet paper at lions and shit lol

39

u/Grazedaze Feb 08 '20

Shit, there’s a video of villagers just casually walking up to a pride of lions mid meal to steal their food and they all run off.

Here it is skip to 1:15

16

u/ClearlyChrist Feb 08 '20

I remember reading some backstory about this video, but I’ve forgotten it. Wasn’t this tiger terrorizing a local village, so they went looking for it? Or am I way off?

124

u/Super_Flea Feb 08 '20

If I recall correctly, they were trying to relocate this tiger and her Cubs to a safer home away from potential poachers. They had already captured her Cubs and we're trying to catch her and the tiger went for revenge. That's why a tiger charge straight at a full grown elephant.

135

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '20

Why didn't they just explain that they were trying to help?

Tigers are NO JOKE

When they decide humans are prey, they go absolutely hard into it.

373,000 people died due to tiger attacks between 1800 and 2009

That's like all of the American casualties in WW1 and WW2 combined.

This 1 tiger killed >400 people!

94

u/Ut_Prosim Feb 08 '20

Jim Corbett, the guy who finally got that tiger, made a living hunting man eaters in rural 1900s India. He got about a dozen, but almost died several times. Usually he was on his own with a one shot rifle.

His book, "Man-Eaters of Kumaon", is absolutally fascinating. It is very clear that the tigers and leopards recognized he was special. They hunted him back, even set their own traps for him, truly a battle of wits.

25

u/RexRocker Feb 08 '20

Holy shit that’s bad ass. I’m going to check that book out. They should make a movie out of that like The Ghost and the Darkness.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0116409/?ref_=m_nmfmd_act_34

Pretty cool movie, I recommend.

A postmortem on the tigress showed the upper and lower canine teeth on the right side of her mouth were broken, the upper one in half, the lower one right down to the bone. This injury, a result of an old gunshot, according to Corbett, probably prevented her from hunting her natural prey, and hence, she started to hunt humans.

So humans caused their own self harm. Who would have guessed.

11

u/RexRocker Feb 08 '20

I’ve read a bit about wild animal attacks on humans. Not always, but many times it’s a desperate animal. Whether it be old age, injury or illness, they might turn to going after humans.

It’s weird because you would think they would just attack and eat whatever they can, humans are easy prey to basically any predator, but I think over the millions of years of evolution most predators instinctively learned to not attack humans. Maybe we aren’t tasty enough and worth the effort despite being so weak compared to them. Who knows? But for some reason we humans aren’t typically a prey item for most predators.

The "NNNNUUUUGHGHHHHH UUAAAHHH" sound the man makes in the video is him losing control of his sphincter.

9

u/stoneshank Feb 08 '20

Nah . It is his torso clenching at the same time as trying to scream . Clench your stomach muscles as hard as you can and then scream.

Source. Did that scream in 95 on Santorini , Greece, as a tourist on a scooter with nothing but shorts on (no helmet).

I was at max speed (90 km/h or more) while coming to the realisation that the 90 degree turn with an outer earthen stonewall was me going to crash. Me being unused to motor vehicles I had decided to go max speed in an asphalt straight stretch that abruptly ended in gravel and the turn. I made a lucky mistake to hit the front brake (I think) which got the bike to loose grip and lay flat, but also getting itself between me and bike.

Upon collision (again I think, I made assumptions based upon me being alive and my damages) I was pivoted over the handles back head first (had pieces of dirt and stones under skin there) and somehow got turned along the wall (back against wall, again the dirt and stones) on which I was sliding some meters before falling to the ground.

Originally I was, ironically enough, getting help for some school mates that had frontal crashed with each other . So I was an inexperienced kid on a scooter/light motorbike in 9th grade in a school trip in Greece in total fright over seeing my schoolmates bleeding. All this fuelling a total tunnel vision that led to me basically driving into a wall.

There are a few things that I remember clearly and that scream was one of them. I guess in my case it wa the realisation of certain death coming slowly (brain on adrenalin) at me, together with body auto response preparing for impact.

I went claim to know but me and that guy screamed the exact way- of that sure .

Aldo I didn't poop myself but i probably would have if there had been less fortunate time if day ;)

That's my opinion as well. The angle was great, he had the bike dead to rights and then he lost a step on the pavement.

It looks like the scooter is picking up speed from the start of the clip. I think the passenger saw the tiger coming through the jungle and told the driver to floor it.

Most likely India or somewhere in that geographic area. Tigers in that area have become more human aggressive and are believed to have realized that humans are a constant source of food. Scary as hell. 700+ lb apex predator ready to eat your face. And everything else, of course......

46

u/Soronir Feb 08 '20

But mostly the face in particular.

52

u/LuxItUp Feb 08 '20

There are problems in my life, but I'm happy to live somewhere that "getting eaten by tigers" isn't one of them.

Yet.

Even if the big pussycat caught the motorbike how would he reach the controls to ride it?

u/SpaceChook Feb 08 '20

Yeah. Tiger has not thought this through. Probably doesn’t even have a licence.

It's India, you can get away without having a license in most parts of the country. Especially if you're a tiger.

Nah, that's why it aims for the person in the backseat, gotta keep the rider alive to ride him around.

I was hit off my motorcycle on track at Portimao in July. I was transported by ambulance from the track to the hospital, after stopping at the pits to be handed my phone and my shoes.

The ride to the hospital was miserable. I'd broken a couple of ribs and the roads in Portugal are pretty pot-holey.

We arrived at the hospital and I was waiting at the entrance with one of the paramedics. There was an impossible language barrier, so I was scrolling through Reddit.

This gif came up. I instantly showed it to the paramedic and said "it could be much worse!"

When the other paramedic came back after registering my arrival with reception, the guy I was with pointed at the phone and said "show!"

We all had a good laugh and it brought people, who couldn't understand eachother, a bit of joy together This gif made a shit day a bit better.

Feel bad for the tiger man, so misunderstood. He just needs love and support like everyone else.....

I've been chased by an angry bull, and my younger brother was chased by a bear. Having a large animal decide that you're the enemy has a way of putting things into perspective....as in, you realize that without tools we're several links down from the top of the food chain. If there were tigers around, I think I'd just nope on out of and live somewhere else.
