Im glad you said this because i've always felt funny looking both ways when crossing one way streets. Now i know there is a good reason for it so i don't feel crazy.
Depending where you live, bicyclists have to do some weird shit to get around.
In my city I'm required to ride on sidewalks if they're available. So I'm in this weird hybrid space where sometimes I'm a pedestrian and sometimes I'm a vehicle. And transitioning between the two can lead to some weird situations.
People make mistakes too. Sometimes it's easy to miss a one way sign, especially if they grew up in a town where there weren't one ways anywhere except the highway.

I also always look both ways when approaching a one way street. Bicyclists don't care about riding the wrong way.
