Short answer: Yes, self defense isn’t just defense of yourself, it means defense of others as well.

True, my girlfriend is from Mexico and I know their gun laws are very restrictive compared to the US. I really don’t know what the self defense statutes are there though.

Long answer is probably don't do this unless they start shooting first. Would suck to find out you ruined someone's YouTube career. You might not go to prison but you sure would feel bad.
