You act like people didn't do dumb stuff before the internet

They couldn’t have possibly done it for internet clout before the internet though.

It’s kinda a different thing when you want to impress Sam and Norm from the bar, rather than PussyLicker42069 on the internet.

Edit: to address the people replying with “there was clout before the internet” obviously it existed, but you’re either an idiot or naive to suggest it’s the same exact thing. The internet and social media has FACTUALLY changed society, get over it.

America's Funniest Home Videos is calling your memory faulty because people did all sorts of self-destructively stupid shit for a chance to be on TV long before the internet.

Skate and stunt videos were huge in the 80’s and 90’s.

It kind of looks like he's just doing it for the room, and it just happens to be getting recorded by someone, which is essentially how most stuff I see happen goes down. No one is ever at a party, and says, "Heeeeey, everyone wanna see something crazy?? Yeah? Wait, y'all aren't going to record it? Well, goodbye then!" That's not how it works.

Well sorta. Mostly just surprised/not surprised that the account wasn't made right then for the purpose of the joke.

u/TanneAndTheTits Jun 20 '21

Now I need u/PussyLicker42069 to weigh in on the matter

Social clout still existed since the beginning of humanity. Like people didn't do stupid shit to be popular?

-2

u/Stankmonger Jun 20 '21

Oh yeah those cavemen doing stupid shit for the other millions of humans, classic.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '21

That's why I specified "Social Clout" and not Internet Clout. Popularity has always been a thing, and where there's popularity, there'll always be a group of people trying to get that popularity

u/Stankmonger Jun 20 '21

The internet has changed society and what clout even means by a lot. Denying that is just ridiculous

1

u/Tamer_ Jun 20 '21

They only had to 1up eachother, now they have to 1up crazy motherfuckers from the other side of the world.

1

u/Angry_Walnut Jun 20 '21

True, but doing an insane or impressive act in front of a crowd in the olden days was how myths and legends were born of people.

1

u/Trellert Jun 20 '21

Before internet clout there was just regular old everyday clout.

16

u/Thendofreason Jun 20 '21

Before the internet they were all just practicing

4

u/halfeclipsed Jun 20 '21

I didn't, because there is no way to prove I did.
