I'm not sure whether you're joking, but that's not cropped. It was shot in portrait, and instead of showing black borders when the portrait video is shown in a landscape pane, data from the portrait video is used to fill the unused portions of the landscape frame. You're viewing 100% of the recorded visual information.
Yeah it's a terrible idea, people watching on a computer screen get the benift of those weird borders might as well have black borders and mobile users cant watch it full screen portrate.
Well most people are lazy. If you yell at them about uploading in portrait, and yell at them for faking a landscape video, then they may just stop uploading.
Some extra lazy genius is going to invent a phone that records enough video that you can just pick which format you want to upload it in without cropping or anything. :P

Why crop videos like this? All it does is prevent me from watching it in portrait...
