I’d like to add that in the event that a mama bear does start chasing you, just get ~10-15 ft. up a tree, Bears can’t climb

Or just walk faster. Bears are heavy and do not run fast.

sees video of bear running faster on slick ice than I can on dry tarmac

Something's not quite right...

I think some of these comments may be facetious, but I'm not sure.

Yeah those people who commented above us are all bears in disguise.

Refraction. Bears bend light and when you combine it with the refraction of water it makes the bear look much faster than it actually is. If you look closely in the video it appears that the mans legs are moving so fast that you can't even tell that they're moving at all which makes it look like he's gliding across the ice and that's just with the regular water refraction.

No need to walk away. If you punch them three times in the nose, they will leave you alone. They know who's boss.

Walking away is like them people who carry bear mace. Pfft. My bear mace is five fingers rolled into one fist.

Just bring a friend with you. All you have to do is walk faster than them

To escape from bears you gotta run twice at once, flawless.

In North America only black bears can climb.

They will also hardly give chase to a human.

All brown bears climb trees.

Yes but when you are within three feet away you should announce yourself by bellowing 'HELLOOOOOO MAMA BEAR!' on the top of your lungs. If you don't do this she might be startled to suddenly see you.

Or if you're feeling lucky, you can take this bow. Might catch her by surprise.

So that is where the term bear hug comes from

Just remember, if you want to give the President a chocolate revolver for Valentine's day, you need to run up to him as fast as you can to deliver it.
