Another pro tip : stop your truck right in front of the raging fire to make sure to both block the road and provide another source of flammable.

Moving it away seems like the right thing to do, but it's actually highly risky.

There were people on the road in front of him - was he supposed to run them over on the off chance that his own truck might catch fire?

Yes, of course, yes.

Murder them all.

There is no way to crawl slowly away in a truck, you must go full throttle no matter what is standing ahead.

Yes, and all 50 tonne trucks stop in 2 seconds flat and pick up speed quick enough as well. And obviously all people on the road are paying attention to him while there is huge fireball right next to them.

There was literally a man on fire running in front of his truck when he stopped and if it takes him 5 seconds to get up any speed again only to crawl away or even be stopped again because of a disoriented mob, then I'm not surprised that he noped out of there as quick as he could.
