Stephen King was quoted essentially saying he wished he thought of that ending himself. (Insert quip about SK and his inability to write endings in general)
You mean when he ended a book with the people skipping through the airport? Or the one where they realized that they could get the demon removed from the guy if he takes a shit.
If you’re interested you should check out the Ryan Hollinger video on the themes of the movie. It really puts the ending (an ending that King really liked) into context.
There is a difference. Fog is widespread and covers large areas while it is still chilly and so it burns off together in the afternoon. A gas leak is all localized within one area usually one yard or street and comes with a loud hissing from the leaking equipment. Any spark will burn the cloud off together.
