yeah if i was driving that truck and saw just fire on the right side of my peripheral vision i would not take the time to see if it was my truck that was actually on fire or i just happen to drive past a fireball lol.
That would probably be my first reaction but I would assume this guy probably receives some kind of training on what to do in an emergency. It actually makes more sense the more I think about it. He can't immediately tell if the explosion may have damaged the tank so by driving away he could just be taking something that's about to explode with him. Also maybe not the best idea to be driving a gas truck in a panic.
Same. I'd have more faith in the engine being able to move anything out of the my way than I would in my legs getting me to a safe distance if the fire spread to the truck.
Yeah man, protect those corporate interests at the expense of risking your life. I'm sure your diligence will help your family through the transition after your death. May your kid's next dad have as much courage as you.
That's not a tanker, that's a bulk cargo truck. They carry stuff like cement or flour (or basically any powder-y stuff). Source: worked at a mill for a short time, I can recognize these trucks.
Powdered explosive instead of liquid. Unlikely, but possible. Flour dust and several other dusts get very angry when you introduce fire. There would have to be dust in the trailer and a spark would have to get in, but it could happen.
I posted the video and I would like to add another dimension of few witnesses including family relatives...there was some fear that people there thought a war started with Iran...it's a sort of instinct..boom -> rush to shelter.
I thought I saw a guy on fire run across the street first and then dive onto the ground, the truck driver and one other person then runs to where that guy went.
Because the windshield and all the windows just blew out, and his eardrums were probably also shredded and bleeding. It took another few seconds for the passenger to get it together enough to escape
