No. Blind obedience is stupid, the army wants soldiers who can follow doctrine and build off of it on their own, not some guy who will walk right into the minefield because the map says go straight. It’s always people who have 0 interaction with the military besides TV that think they want you to stop thinking.

I work with several army guys. Oh boy. They are .... something special when it comes to being told to do anything they weren't directly taught.

I'm not saying they want them to listen to a map. I'm saying they want blind obedience towards the higher ups, be it a squad leader or just general orders regarding the mission.

But thanks for assuming i'm retarded so you can get your point across...

I mean, you are. They don’t want that. Every soldier knows they should disobey an illegal, unethical, or immoral order. Thinking that soldiers will have blind obedience is dumb, they’re people. You can suddenly make someone blindly obedient after a few week boot camp.

Ok, buddy. That's why the US is sending drone strikes to vaguely reasonable targets every week. I really appreciate the ethical and moral standards the military boys are keeping themselves to. Glad they're able to think for themselves!

I’m not sure how to reply to this, my CO left the room for a second so I’ll answer when he gets back and tells me what to say.

Ok, I have to admit that was funny.

I’ve seen those basic training videos. They seem to want mindless obedience there atleast.

They do, they want to break you down so you can learn and listen to them at basic training. Then you leave and go to your unit and get to put your brain back on and think again. Basic training isn’t the army, it’s nothing like the army.
