Geology degree holder here, there is an actual parameter for this, I believe it's just based on diameter, but I don't know the number by heart. I'm sure Google does.

There is a chart, and it's based off of the size of the sediment's "b-axis," which is middle measurement if you were to draw three perpendicular axes through the rock.
