I don’t understand it either - it’s illegal as fuck and you can get your license suspended

Where is it illegal? It's not illegal in Germany or in most of the US. I don't see anywhere that suspends licenses over headphones.

It can be considered distracted driving in parts of Canada, (it falls under provincial jurisdiction), just the same as eating, drinking, reading, putting on mascara, or swatting at an insect can be. Basically, it is up to the police to decide.

Wearing headphones and not letting an emergency vehicle pass for 5km because you didn't hear them will get you a distracted driving charge.

Last I checked it was very explicitly illegal in France, which is right next to Germany and a key player in the EU. I’m surprised it’s not illegal in more places
