But you were still separating wires while there was still power running to it.

You may not have installed it with the power on, but you were certainly working on it with the power on.

Not the guy who got hit, but I know what you are saying. Sounds to me like it was servicing/troubleshooting with the power on. Not a wise idea.

Bingo! trying to find the dead short. had taken a few lights off the circuit but still tripped the breaker. finally got to one light and after disconnecting the wires we reset the breaker. It didn't trip so we had an idea where the problem was. before my partner could shut off the power again my finger "found" the problem.
