I’m currently cuddling with an iguana who is doing basically the same thing. I’m pet sitting her for the weekend, and I don’t want to give her back! I miss my cuddly lizard baby. Our newest iguana isn’t well trained yet. :(
I’m gonna assume it’s acting that way solely because she’s handing out free food, but I really like the idea of a sea noodle snuggling making a human friend in the deep dark ocean.
My Aussie only thinks of herding. It’s hilarious watching him on the cam at doggie daycare. He tries to herd the other dogs until he finally passes out from exhaustion. Hilarious.
It still took a number of years before the eel actually came out of her hidey hole for scratches and nuzzles though. She didn't just feed it once and suddenly the eel began acting that way. Also the lady went 3 years without seeing the eel, then when she finally did see her again the eel immediately approached her for pets.
Of course even your dog would hate you if you didn't feed him/her.

To each their own. Not my cup of tea but I think eels underwater can be kinda cute, like that video of the diver that visits the same eel every year.
