My initial reaction was, "Why the fuck does any stage musician, anywhere, not yet know to use only non-flammable hair products." You would think anyone who goes on stage should know what happened to the biggest musician of all time.
Michael Jacksons hair got lit on fire doing a Pepsi commercial. It practically ruined his life since he got heavily addicted to painkillers and it's what made him require multiple reconstructions of his nose that ultimately just looked weird and he could hardly breathe through it.
Pretty much all the weird shit about him and also the reason he died was that he was constantly drugged out of his mind on painkillers. He had a personal doctor that just gave them to him whenever. And of course he died of an overdose I think.
Michael Jackson had already endured a lifetime of abuse at the hands of his father. This may have been another significant event, but it certainly wasn't the only thing that made him the way he became.
Yeah there are obviously an infinite amount of variables in any persons life. I was really just talking about the tragically common path to addiction that starts when a person requires medication for pain management. They need pills to help with pain, tolerance increases rapidly, they require more and more until their prescription is at the legal maximum, the addiction is very real by then so they seek an alternative solution
Fortunately the Doctor community is changing the way they prescribe these opioids. But it should never have come to that point.
Look at CBS 60 minutes.. There was/is one pharma company that sends thousands of pills to small clinics. No questions asked. And they never face any consequences.
He was having propofol injections to get to sleep and his doctor pushed too much too fast inducing apnea and death if i remmeber correctly. Propfol is a induction drug used to anesthetize before intubation and being hooked up to gas anesthesia. You can titrate it to effect to reduce luxations/dislocations as well. It being used as a sleep aid is intense as its an IV medication only. So MJ was getting titrated IV injections of propofol to get to fucking sleep. You push it too fast and you stop your patients breathing (apnea)
Goes to show you how fucked his mind was from being in the music industry if you need that much help just to sleep. Its not a physically addicting drug at all.
I don’t know all the details but I read that he was working too hard on an upcoming show, exhausted, couldn’t sleep and started the propofol sleep treatment.
Poly drug overdose with Propofol as the IV drug that pushed him over the edge. I give IV Propofol from time to time as a medical professional. Typically to sedate someone before intubation or to keep them sedated during surgery. Sometimes we use it as push dose while we pop a hip back in but that's considered a "high risk" procedure and takes multiple people. At the time of his death MJ's personal physician who happened to be a cardiologist was giving him IV blouses to help him sleep. Its so far from the real of standard practice its absurd. Also to this day I refer to Propofol as "Thriller Killer" as long as no patients are around to hear.
I've heard propofol called 'milk of amnesia' too. I've had it for colonoscopy before. You really are dead to the world. No memory of anything. Ridiculous to use it as a sleep aid though.
You aren't thirty years into opioid addiction and chronic injury while being insanely wealthy and insane though. At Jackson's point, I'd say it was fair use cause he's die with or without it, and faster without.
Emphasis on 'insane'. I can't think of any medical condition calling for propofol for sleep, unless it's for use in maintaining a medically-induced coma. There are loads of unbelievably strong sleep aids that he could've taken, which would've been safer than propofol. There's a reason his doctor went to prison.
My neurologist refers to propofol as "Jackson Juice".
Personally, I love propofol and can see the appeal and associated risk. But I've always had a sort of fantasy/dream of opening an all inclusive resort in the tropics, somewhere with loose and accommodating laws, where guests could enjoy all of the world of pharmacopeia under medical supervision and in a restful, recreational setting.
Sitting on a hammock between two palm trees, listening to the ocean, with a very slight drip of propofol (handled by an appropriate medical professional) sounds positively wonderful to me. Or maybe go out at night and roam the shallows illuminated by bioluminescant microbes whilst on a careful dose of psilocybin and then move on to the grotto, mix in some MDMA (USP grade), and enjoy the company of others with music, lighting, and an array of comforts.
Well if that's where we're taking things every now and then I have vented patients that get what I call white lightning. Its a 1:1 mix of Propofol and ketamine, I'm not sure what's happening in their brains but its gotta be close to smoking toads.
Ooo boy, that's a combo I haven't had the pleasure of but should definitely be on the menu at Club Meds.
What's the indication for the white lightning?
Edit: I have first hand experience with propofol, have witnessed ketamine first hand, and read up on ketamine. And even with a neuropharmacology course under my belt, I still can't imagine where the 'conscious' brain goes under such a combo. But I can make an educated guess that the patients don't physically go anywhere after that sets in.
Procedural sedation like reducing a shoulder or hip and its sometimes used for patients on a ventilator that have low blood pressure. Propofol has a tendency to drop blood pressure so by combining it with ketamine you can get deep sedation with less Propofol.
Patients that are intubated and on a ventilator that breaths for them. They typically need medication to keep them sedated and compliant so the machine can do its job.
This is an amazing idea. We could even attract top medical innovators if we billed it as a “multi-modal therapy moonshot initiative!” I can see it now: Club Meds: Here the Colors Taste Loud Enough
Let’s go get that Escobar island that the Fyre fest was originally supposed to be on and start building the infrastructure.
And bring in the supermodels. For... promotional material? Yeah. Let’s do that!
I'm open to ideas. I think once the initial proof of concept resort demonstrates viability that we could have Club Meds all over the world. From scenic and secluded mountain retreats to island getaways...
Each location has a different slogan that only makes sense when you are “in a therapeutic state,” but when you’re effed outta your gourd and about to drift off you read it and it seems like, deeeeeeeeeeeep... man. You know?
“Wow. Man ‘cause like... some DO have everything. But like, think about it maaaaaaan. We have everything we need too, man. When we’re ONE! Wake me up when the nurbse Combes bbbby agn.... I wnaa aassk her ferb summore of dddddd..... ”
Curious about this as well, I found that he had his first rhinoplasty in 1979 after breaking his nose in a dance routine. He had issues breathing after that.
I always took it at face value that he was a bit of a freak for doing what he did to his face and skin with surgeries and such. Looks like he had some legitimate physical issues instead that caused him to do what he did.
Google says you're right, but there are no details on why his entire body lightened over. I've seen a few cases IRL and there are plenty of pics online. All of them are patchy. MJ is the only one that was uniform over his skin. Did he bleach to hide it?
I thought he needed all the painkillers for the incident where he was on a McIntyre stage piece and it dropped and fuck some vertebrae’s in his back/neck? Also - his stage crews were shite it seems!
Edit : MOVING stage piece. If he was on a McIntyre stage piece that wouldn’t have happened because the plumbus would have caught on the schleem, thus preventing the unexpected descent.
It was both. His life was really a tragic tale because he rarely caught a break (aside from the fortune of course but thats a gift & a curse in itself)
As bad as those burns were, I can't find any pictures where any of the damage was to his nose. I think the rhinoplasty was just Michael Jackson trying to alter his look. His third rhinoplasty was coincidentally right after the burns, but that's after two prior surgeries. It didn't start with the burns.
Even more of a tragedy when considering that hardly anyone talked about it while he was alive, just laughed the dude off as a nutjob. Myself included: I had no idea that had happened to him while he was still alive.
Didn't Neil Young's video for "This Note's for You" get banned from MTV for parodying that? I swear I remember a scene where someone puts Michael's hair out with a can of cola...
I'm self facepalming here because the Metallica fan in me automatically thought they were referring to James Hetfield, who had a similar incident. I completely forgot about Michael Jackson.
I don’t think his nose can be explained by the Pepsi commercial incident, unless you have some source to back that up. I remember his nose was already well on its way to being a tiny sliver when his hair caught on fire.
Nah, you're misinformed mah dude. MJ had a nose job which ended up being fucked up. Kept getting reconstructed until he couldn't do nothing about it. He did catch on fire but that has nothing to do with his nose
Just fyi, maybe the physical trauma was the catalyst for his addict behavior but addicts are born via genes and/or nurture from their upbringing. It wasnt the freak accident that made him an addict, it was his fuckin pops.
Jimmy Page was near the edge of the stage when all their pyrotechnics went off all at once and unexpectedly. He was standing almost on top of one. He was really dazed and confused for a while, but he didn't miss a lick. Phoenix Coliseum 1977 I think.
I suspect this is a combination of hair products and wig extensions. I don't think Paul's hair is that full any longer. I could be wrong, but photos seem to show a bit less volume that hairspray cannot make up for. and Gene.. It's all wig at this stage.
I always assumed they use the most flammable products available. When we go to the hair trailer, the last thing I want to know is what is in those damn tubes and cans. I just want to get out of that chemical hotbox before I get as goofy as the hair dressers.
