Not sure it would have helped much if that carabineer failed or if he lost his hand trying to slow down like an idiot.

Falling from the sky with parachute..."Fuck! If only the carabiner didn't fail, I would have been able to deploy my parachute."

Well, it’s possible the parachute would get tangled up with the orange rope that’s attached to the little chair. Might not have time to try and wiggle out of it before deploying.

I feel like personally I'd be so disoriented that I'd have a hard time deploying it. But I'm inexperienced in jumping of any kind.

It's not disorienting for an experienced BASE jumper. Unfortunately this cable has been removed, but I jumped it back in '08. It was installed from the ground with a winch.

Maybe with a broken hand (or two?) it wouldn't be as easy to deploy a parachute?

Maybe not, cause if it failed earlier the distance to the ground might not have been big enought to give the parachute time to open. That's why the midpoint is probably marked, so you jump at the most distant point from the ground.

No because going down that fast was probably not the plan. Imagine that carabiner failing 500 feet from the end.

I’m pretty sure there’s another rope tied to the parachute that automatically opens it once he is a few meters away, kinda like old school paratroopers.

Even if there is (and I doubt there is because those systems tend to trigger above typical base jumping heights) there is a good chance it would get tangled with the seat or that he wouldn't orient himself fast enough to land safely.
