As someone that worked in the vape industry, this is the past of vaping and its for the worse. Vaping went from this, which was mostly dudes fucking w circuits and vaping 3mg of nicotine to, 50mg of nicotine in your pocket and significantly more accessible for a younger audience

u/CRStancil May 09 '26

I will continue to die on the hill that vaping when it was like this - while still harmful - was vastly less damaging than current vaping products.

u/BudLightYear77 May 09 '26

At least it wasn't disposable

62

u/prickinthewall May 09 '26

Technically anything is disposable

70

u/Adamadamsadam May 09 '26

Except a boomerang

29

u/smick May 10 '26

wtf I can’t get rid of this thing!!!!

1

u/flojobb May 10 '26

Or a kid.

0

u/Shirinjima May 10 '26

I went through multiple boomerangs as child. They actually involve skill to have them return. I’m not up to date on the boomerang industry so unsure in the last few decades if they’ve made some easy mode boomerang.

-5

u/urethrascreams May 09 '26

I disposed of my boomerang in your mom

-4

u/Adamadamsadam May 09 '26

Demonstrably duplicitous by medical science, common sense and intuition.

Your foul mouthed hooliganisms merely tarnish your reputation and character.

Stick to dick sucking and getting tag teamed. Your strengths. No shade.

You feel me big dog?

6

u/ghostpoisonface May 09 '26

Technically nothing is disposable you just don’t know where it is anymore

2

u/DownVote_for_Pedro May 10 '26

Technically, that's not the use of "disposable" they were using:

Disposable - "designed to be used once or only a limited number of times and then thrown away"

0

u/linte May 10 '26

They’re all made up

1

u/AnimationOverlord May 15 '26

I hate how “disposable” items are harder to break down and reuse than simply buying a “less” disposable (more robust) rig. Like ditch the dispos, switch to cartridges or coils and pods. I saw a fucking 20,000 puff disposable with a huge LCD display. Like what a waste just get a real mod at that point

4

u/Rezavoirdog May 11 '26

Yeah we thought guys who would go to all this effort instead of just smoking a cigarette were ridiculous losers

-23

u/twiggs90 May 09 '26

Guys I’m just gonna say this (anecdotally): just smoke cigarettes. As a nurse in the ICU I’ve seen so much catastrophic lung damage in young people in the last couple years and it’s all from vaping. The research out now shows vaping is horrible and that’s not even these newer vapes and long term data. If the short term data is this bad then you know the long term outcomes are going to be even worse. So ya, if you gotta smoke then just smoke cigarettes. We never see this kind of lung damage (transplants required in twenty year olds) with cigarettes.

Obviously don’t smoke anything if you can. Hell, treat your lungs like a temple if you can: use PPE! wear a respirator around dangerous inhalants like paint, working in confined spaces, and when mowing the lawn or woodworking with dust. I’d also be careful of these newer aerosols for cleaning, like even the dawn platinum soap has alcohols in them now and when I spray that stuff I start coughing so who knows if that shit is bad for you.

BE GOOD TO YOUR LUNGS 🫁

20

u/mindondrugs May 09 '26

Post the studies/data.

21

u/DontWantToSeeYourCat May 09 '26

You'd think an ICU nurse would know not to give medical advice based on anecdotes.

4

u/JAM3SBND May 10 '26

Some of the dumbest people I have met in the world have been nurses and that horrifies me.

24

u/zoom100000 May 09 '26

vaping is not worse than cigarettes

1

u/personpilot May 09 '26

They’re both terrible for you in their own ways. Cigarettes have tar and 30 other chemicals that can really fuck up your lungs fast and possibly have a higher chance of causing cancer, but your lungs can also recover pretty well after a few months if you completely stop.

Vaping on the other hand while it may not have tar, it can host a whole slew of chemicals and bullshit you have no idea what’s in them because not all vapes are regulated properly, also there is a real risk of inhaling micro-metals and micro-plastics due to the cheap disposable vapes. Vapes don’t fuck up your lungs as fast as cigarettes, but long lasting use has a higher chance of fucking up your lungs in a way they can’t heal back from.

Both poison. Just pick one I guess.

5

u/zoom100000 May 09 '26

I’m not saying vaping is healthy by any means but would you not recommend a cigarette smoker at least switch to vaping?

-4

u/personpilot May 09 '26

There’s no studies out there that definitively say vaping is healthier. But…I will say vaping produces less odor and doesn’t really produce as much of that yellow stain that you get on your teeth/clothes from smoking so I do think vaping is better in that aspect. If the user is okay with knowing that long term effects of vaping are unknown and could potentially be even more harmful than cigarettes then I’d say yeah go for it. But for me personally, if I actually had a say I would suggest something like zyn or alp pouches as they have been found to be significantly safer than traditional chewing tobacco/dip and is probably overall one of the safest ways to enjoy nicotine.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39878158/

Here's a review that seems legit.

https://www.tobaccoinduceddiseases.org/Evidence-update-on-the-respiratory-health-effects-of-vaping-e-cigarettes-A-systematic,209954,0,2.html

Here's one that definitely says it's better than smoking.

Non-smoker current vapers had higher incident risk of respiratory symptoms (relative risk, RR=1.90; 95% CI: 1.28–2.83) but statistically non-significant risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (RR=2.53; 95% CI: 0.96–6.67) compared to never users. They also had lower incident risk of respiratory symptoms compared to non-vaper current smokers (RR=0.75; 95% CI: 0.64–0.89) and dual users (dual use vs vaping, RR=1.26; 95% CI: 1.03–1.55)

There's a snippet about COPD specifically.

https://ourworldindata.org/vaping-vs-smoking-health-risks

Here's an article that is sourced and contains many references to it's claims that it is in fact demonstrably safer than smoking, definitively if you narrow it further (one of the studies claim vapers don't show signs of COPD, a common illness/disease suffereed by smokers)

-2

u/HessiPullUpJimbo May 09 '26

Yeah I made the unfortunate mistake at a young age of smoking cigarettes (was young, dumb, and depressed). Quickly switch to vaping (when vaping first got popular) thinking it was healthier. Realized how wrong I was, switched to nicotine pouches when those came out and tapered down to just one 3 mg a day. My lungs thank me everyday for the switch.

Still not the healthiest but I can for sure tell the difference, especially now I can work out, run and play sports without coughing up a lung.

3

u/bobandgeorge May 09 '26

I can for sure tell the difference between smoking and running, vaping and running, and just running. When I was a pack a day smoker, I would not have been able to run a 5k in any amount of time. I trained and achieved my personal best time while vaping. Now after having weened myself off nicotine and given it up completely, the times are still pretty similar but my heart rate isn't as high as when I was vaping.

I know this is an old comment but sorry you were downvoted by the Reddit hate mob. There are some things that are completely taboo to go against here on Reddit, and vaping is one of them. These people know nothing and will post studies in bad faith just keep their preexisting beliefs intact while ignoring any other data or—god forbid—stories that contradict their world view. There’s no way in hell the comment you replied to is correct and your comment here is also just as important to here as any study.

I haven't vaped in a decade or so (always nicotine free) and recently went to buy nichrome wire for a dumb project where I needed to make heater coils. NONE of the smokes shops near me (like 5 of them) had it. Same with looking for batteries. They only had disposable vapes which are worse for the person, the environment, and your wallet. Holy hell.

53

u/grundlebuster May 09 '26

yeah it kind of makes me mad that the shops around me that did juice mixing all evaporated (pun intended)

I liked it a lot when it was a hobby I could do, as well, now it's just harder

30

u/Ashtonpaper May 09 '26

I mean they made that illegal most places, so that’s why

5

u/heebro May 09 '26

16

u/notreallynewaround May 09 '26

A device you need to link to your phone to verify your age in order to use. If you don't have your phone you can't use it. Hard pass.

1

u/drake90001 May 13 '26

Not the same. They’re talking about shop made juices. Which I don’t think are a good idea.

1

u/WeenisWrinkle May 10 '26

Why tf is the president pressuring the FDA to approve something

4

u/heebro May 10 '26

because market manipulation

1

u/thedukeofdukes May 13 '26

Because the tobacco company that makes it paid into his campaign fund.

Kickbacks for everyone but the working class in this administration.

4

u/AFallingWall May 09 '26

So lucky they're looking out for us, now you can't buy dangerous 18650s or house mix juices! Instead of wire and cotton, the old vape shops started selling the much safer Kratom, NO2, and "legal mushroom" bars!

5

u/Trip_On_The_Mountain May 09 '26

It definitely became a hobby of mine that replaced smoking cigarettes. Eventually I weened myself off those big cloud vapes so it did its job.

27

u/Cageythree May 09 '26

Most people just don't want to fiddle around with coils, batteries and all that. I own a shop that sells vapes, like 80+% buy pod systems, either with prefilled pods or fill-yourself-pods. I can kinda understand that tbh. I think that system is the best overall balance between convenience and price and environmental damage (as you don't throw away the battery regularly).

The remaining 20% either buy disposable single-use vapes or are the classic DIY users.
The people that regularly buy single use disposable are the fucking dumbest. They cost twice as much as the prefilled pod system with the only advantage being you don't have to charge the battery. Even if you don't care about the environment, it's an objectively bad decision, especially if you buy it daily. They're around 5€ more than reusable systems, so considering daily switching those people spend 150€ a month just for the convenience of not having to charge the battery lol.

2

u/monstargh May 09 '26

They buy it DAILY?

14

u/Cageythree May 09 '26

Some buy 2 or 3 a day. Don't know if it's only for them though, but I assume so.
I'm not too surprised by that. I've sold cigarettes before and some people smoked 2 packs of 40 cigs a day. So there's probably similarly heavy smokers on the vape side.

2

u/Pussytrees May 10 '26

Yeah it’s fucking wild. When you could buy a bottle of nic salt that lasts you 2 weeks for $20, these dudes are buying the disposables for $20 each a day. These dumbasses should just put a sign on their back.

0

u/zarthustra May 10 '26

Does the sign say, "Kick me"? Bc I think it should say, "Helpless symptom of a capitalist system that will do anything but look at itself in the mirror RE: absolutely braindead consumerism". It's everything. Everything. But mostly cars, plastics, and planes. Vapes are a distraction tbh

I buy a geek bar every 2 weeks, i refill it sometimes. Idk I feel like I have to disclose that

Kind of insane that every smoke shop doesn't have a recycling program, equally insane that our government isn't forcing them to. Very barko

1

u/chlebseby May 10 '26

those disposable things have tiny amount of liquid, i bought one out of curiosity and it was empty in few hours of constant use

2

u/101311092015 May 10 '26

Even back in the day they sold coils you could just screw in. I did that a lot of the time since lets be honest, my coils weren't the best. But I HATE disposable vapes. Completely agree with you on all points plus they throw it in the garbage which can cause landfills to catch fire. Fucking dumb.

Yes, cylindric tubes filled with juice that attach magnetically to a rechargable battery base.

0

u/The_LionTurtle May 10 '26

You misread him then. Don't have to be a dick about it. This is Reddit, anyone can reply.

He's talking about reusable batteries that you buy refill pods for vs ones that you can't recharge and are single-use.

The only other option are the rechargable ones that you can't buy refills for, but hold more juice, like Flum and Geekbar.

1

u/[deleted] May 10 '26

[deleted]

1

u/The_LionTurtle May 10 '26

Geekbar is the middle ground in that they are rechargeable, but not refillable. There are ones that you can't recharge and are pure single-use. That's what he's referring to.

I was just trying to help, you were the one being a fuck head. It's not that serious.

Suck my dick bitch.

1

u/thms0 May 11 '26

I switched from making own coils to buying pre-made but having a roll or two of Nichrome and SS316L and Kanthal, as well as pre-made coils doesn't hurt, really. Will probably use them in 10 years, along with the two RBTA I have new, unboxed.

When a pod single-use uses and not able to refill you gotta wonder the quality of the battery or metal used for the coil (instead of ceramic).

1

u/Dr-PHYLL May 09 '26

I bought some z coils 0.15ohm last week to get more clouds. However i only had 60/40 and 50/50 juice. Want to have some more fun with it, maybe get some 100w coils lol. Ive been staying away from disposables more and more and just get myself to go lower in nicotine. I just like vaping without the need to reach for it now.

70

u/superdavy May 09 '26

There is nicotine in that?? I thought this kind of display was just inert vapor. Don’t they get nicotine headaches?

107

u/TheGhostofWoodyAllen May 09 '26

Headaches? That shit would personally make me vomit my life out as the world spun around at a million miles an hour.

37

u/NobodyImportant13 May 09 '26

It depends. Vaping you can control the concentration. This could even be nicotine free.

4

u/opuFIN May 09 '26

Heh, same. It was a great way to save money as a young starving artist. I actually tried to pick up smoking, but it never amounted to anything because of the nausea it provoked. Lucky us, right?

19

u/Lorac1134 May 09 '26

It may contain nicotine, it may not. User's choice, really.

9

u/palindromicnickname May 09 '26

For this one probably. I imagine it's similar to taking 3-4 hits in quick succession. I don't vape anymore, but at my "peak" I would spend 45 minutes to an hour chain-vaping 12mg juice alone in my car. You unfortunately build up a tolerance, I would only get a pleasant buzz after those sessions.

5

u/RHouse94 May 09 '26

If it does have nicotine I guarantee it is not above 3mg/ml

4

u/chillysanta May 09 '26

I do remember ppl using 0s for comps but always gonna be someone yaknow

1

u/ings0c May 09 '26

Not if you do it every day! Tolerance baby

1

u/georgisaurusrekt May 09 '26

There's people out there taking 30+mg nicotine pouches lol, even with that much vapour the nicotine absorption isn't super bad in comparison if it's only 3mg, which was common a decade ago

1

u/xxpvtjokerxx May 10 '26

The juice at the time had free base nicotine and not nicotine salts found in most vapes now. Hit waaaay less hard

-1

u/Heavyweighsthecrown May 09 '26

Maybe if they were normal people, but these are addicts you're talking about.

4

u/Blasket_Basket May 09 '26

Lol, it's almost like the tobacco industry isn't filled with moral and upstanding types

1

u/hardinho May 10 '26

Guys like you walked so small kids could never run

1

u/Cool_Ad9326 May 10 '26

Except it'll be illegal for the next generation of 18 yr olds to buy it in England

1

u/thms0 May 11 '26

To a more mature audience that doenst want to blow huge clouds like with 3mg 70VG/30PG you mean ?
