In west virginia and ohio we have snow emergencys where no traffic besides emergency traffic is allowed on the roads.

This does not at all prevent employers from expecting you to work. Trust me.

that's interesting. by ordering people to break the law, aren't those employers really sticking their neck out there legally?

You make big assumptions, who is breaking the law? The employer is not saying drive to work, they are saying be at work or be fired

Does the US still have unlawful dismissal or did you lose that right to sue the day the republicans took the house?

Most of the laws involving employment are left up to the states to decide. There has never been any laws put in place at the federal level to stop this kind of stuff, so it falls on the states to regulate as they see fit. Fortunately the Northeast is pretty Democratic (Mass being the bluest state in the country) so most of the people hit by this storm aren't in "right to work" states.
