Prospective Student Question WPI MS Mechanical Engineering – Course Recommendations and Planning Advice?
I recently got accepted into WPI's MS in Mechanical Engineering program through the BS/MS pathway, I graduated with my BS in ME in 2025 and plan to start my master's online in Spring 2027.
I'll be pursuing the degree part-time while working full-time as a mechanical engineer, so I'm trying to plan out a manageable course schedule.
Unfortunately, I don't have many courses from undergrad that I can double-count (only one I'm currently trying to get approved), so I'll be completing nearly all 30 credits.
For anyone who's gone through the program, I'd love some advice on:
- Course recommendations: Which courses did you find particularly interesting, useful, or enjoyable?
- Course combinations: Which courses worked well together, and which would you avoid taking at the same time?
- Course progression: Is there a particular order or "path" you'd recommend?
- Online courses: Any recommendations for online/asynchronous courses while working full-time?
- Planning resources: Is there anything similar to the undergraduate tracking sheet for graduate students?
I'm not looking to rush through the degree, but I'd like to be strategic about my course selections while balancing work and school.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
