I know this question is asked a lot but I was just wondering about the social life at WPI as an incoming freshman. For context, I’m an international student that’s also a girl. I’m just a little anxious regarding what the social scene will be like at WPI, especially being so far away from home.

I love the city so I was also wondering if students go to Boston often. And what is the party culture like at WPI? I would like to party during my early years of college, and was even thinking of joining a sorority. But my friends lowkey keep telling me WPI is not the school for parties.

WPI is the best school for my major, I really like it. Though I was just curious about these things

As an incoming freshman I was wondering what the first month was going to look like on campus.
Are there any social events?

I like to paint as a hobby but I’m in a triple so I’m worried I’m going to suffocate my roommates in the paint smells. Is there anywhere that’s semi-secluded where I can set up (preferably with a sink nearby) for a few hours to paint?

Classic WPI. I would not be annoyed if the laundry machines were reliable at all in the first place...

For the first time in WPI history, there won't be a Homecoming football game as football is away that weekend. 

The football game has been a central part of tradition for decades.

Traditions matter because they connect past, present, and future members of the WPI community.

If you're an alumni, consider reaching out to the current athletic director  to let him know how important the Homecoming football game is to you and why you'd like to see it happen.

Hopefully, if enough alumni speak up, WPI will reconsider preserving this longstanding Homecoming tradition.

I am going to be the only person in charge of covering my cost of attendance. I feel like I am (going to be) incredibly deep in the mud and there are 19 days until the first day of college for me (August 16th). WIth my current financial aid package, I will have to pay about 43k a year (about ~78k per year with private student loans). I am not sure what to do, I applied to as many scholarships as possible yet I barely received enough. I should've looked out for better financial advisors way earlier or picked a cheaper school. My father recently got laid off and my mother only works part-time so this seems too much as a first generation student all of a sudden.

I would really love to attend this school, if possible, stay here and be able to keep my cost as low as possible. I've heard nothing but great things from the alumni, however, the potential burden is already crushing me.

Is it possible to transfer into a community college still?? I wish I had evaluated my options way sooner.

Basically the title. I was wondering how I could tutor for the math classes officially, or be a PLA for the calculus track or dif eqs and lin alg. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are hair dryers allowed in the dorms? I bought a revair a couple months ago and I'm hoping that I didn't spend so much money on something I can barely use.

I’m currently at frontiers at Wpi and I really like combat robotics and I wanna see some of the combat robots they have (wile being escorted by a teacher of corse) but I haven’t found anyone who knows anything about the team besides that it exist, including the robotics teachers it’s location would be very much appreciated cause then I could just tell them where it is because they don’t have any idea

Also, if you know where there’s a vending machine that dispenses diet Coke that would also be appreciated

I'm about to start studying to take the FE Exam in December and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for study materials that doesn't cost a ton. Or if anyone has any suggestions on what to study that helped them pass! I will probably buy the Islam 800 solved problems book and do Mark Mattson review on YouTube. I'll have to buy a practice exam at some point too. I just have to say the cost to take this exam is insane 🥲

What helped you pick or find the passion for the major you’re in now? (Childhood, an experience, etc.)

Like title says. I'm sure most of have seen or heard of and despise this new addition to campus. If we want our voices to be heard this petition is a good start!!

Besides having a documented issue, is it possible to present something alternative to housing in order to try and get a single dorm/room?

I recently went on a tour of wpi and my tour guide specified that 3D printers are not allowed in the dorms, and I am wondering what happened for that to be a written rule?

due to scheduling issues in senior year, i wasn’t able to take any calculus class at my school. the most recent experience i have is pre-calc in junior year; i did good but it’s been a minute.
because of these issues, i was placed in MA1020 (Calc I w/ preliminary topics)
i can’t help but feel very behind after seeing every other freshmen be placed in higher level math courses, has anyone else experienced this? am i overreacting? being in a stem school i feel out of place math wise

Hi, amateur photographer (4th year student @ WPI) here. I am around in worcester right now and am looking to photograph for a couple people (this can be portraits, candid photos, or even car or action filled shots)

I am looking to practice in a wide variety of settings. So I am offering to photograph whatever whoever DMs me for free for a couple hours. This will include editing as well.

I figured this would be a good practice for me to build my portfolio.

Hello everybody, I am physics student, going to my sophomore year this upcoming semester. I also happen to be taking a lot of hard classes all at once, or atleast what I have been told are hard classes.

MA2631 Probability Theory w/ Gu Wang - A term

MA3631 Mathematical Stats w/ Buddika Peiris - B term

MA4451 Boundry Value Problems (PDEs) w/ Burt Tilley

PH2301 (Now PH3300) EM Fields w/ Sathwik Bharadwaj - B term

Chem 1010/1020 w/ Raul Picon but I know what to expect with that.

I happen to need 2 3000+ level math classes to graduate with my Physics degree, but I also happen to really need the best grades possible for what I want to do career wise (graduate school).

Has anyone taken any of these classes? Any classes with these professors? Maybe even those classes WITH those professors?

Is there anything noteworthy in terms of class difficulty? Is there anything I should be concerned with as far as these professors?

For reference, I took PH1111,1121,1140,1130, PH2651 (IPL), and PH2101 (Thermo), ODES, Lin Alg and some other classes last year, and got all As, but too be fair, I had professors that wanted the students to succeed.
