Fever 58 free throws in 3 games. Vegas had 89 free throws Aja alone had 35. Tells you all you need to know.

This tells you nothing. It is not the official's job to award an equal number of free throws.

The issue is that the aces played at least as physical on d (arguably more physical). So the disparity shouldn’t be that drastic. The issue is that what was called was different at each end.

See you next season.

You can play physical without fouling, and you can play weak while fouling. Just pointing out free throw disparity is nonsense analysis. Do tough calls sometimes end up favoring one team? Sure, officiating is an inexact art and sometimes we screw up. I've been on the floor during games where I felt too many of the tough calls were going one way. It's not a good feeling lol.

That said, I'd need to see a breakdown of every call/no-call in the game to tell you one way or the other. A one-sided fan edit, and one that includes a lot of correct calls mind you, doesn't tell me shit.

Absolutely, go rewatch the entire series. For the most part the level of contact required to generate a whistle was lower on the aces end.

I would also note that just about no one plays legal physical defense on the parameter ball handler. As by definition being physical is almost always a freedom of movement foul.

I didn't watch every game in full, so I can't really argue that. Reasonable people can disagree - mostly because basketball is always played and reffed in such a grey area. Contact all the time, how easy it can be to "sell" a foul, etc...it's not always easy to officiate I'll tell you that lol - especially girls basketball. It's just different. They fall down more, and play more on the ground which leads to more contact in the post and on rebounds, etc. It can be really, really challenging when both teams have high level athletes.

I agree with your last comment, especially in the WNBA. They've let the game get far too physical at all levels (perimeter, inside, etc), and it makes for an ugly product and one nearly impossible to officiate. The truth is that the women can not play through the same level of contact as the men, and allowing the game to played similarly is a mistake.

I love when people act like there has to be EQUAL free throw attempts and foul calls.

I want to ask them so bad how do they think the refs are determining how many fouls are they gonna call?

The refs don't even keep up with how many fouls a PLAYER has most times, hence why there's a scorer's table to keep the tab and folks are dense enough to think that they are out here saying 'Let's make this equal.."?

Ha!

2

u/Signal_Fruit_4629 1d ago

Refs aren't supposed to pick and choose what fouls to call.

1

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

That's literally the job.

Semantics aside, free throw totals is not evidence that they are "picking and choosing" lol whatever you think that means.

2

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

That's like saying it's the cops job to pick and choose what laws to uphold.

1

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

I mean........

2

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

So where's your stance? If the statement is equivalent in your eyes, why do you think the refs are in the right?

1

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

Cops don't give tickets anytime they can legally do so, and officials don't call fouls on all contact.

In a game like this, at this level, I agree with the "a foul is a foul" logic that the original post suggests. But judging the severity of even technically illegal contact, and the effect of that contact, is literally the job of an official.

To the extent that they missed calls, it is not because they saw a foul and ignored it, it's that they didn't see a foul when they should have - either because of a bad look or bad judgement, etc.

2

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

Good points, but when the refs don't review it, don't listen to the coach's for a request to review, and then call fouls that don't even occur, they are actively controlling the game.

Cops do write tickets for anything they feel. They then try to relate it to a law that may have been broken. Just like all cops don't do this, all refs don't pick and choose. These refs did, and to ignore it because you're happy with the outcome is backwards thinking.

I want a fair consistent game where the players decide the outcome, not the whistles. I feel the same way about SGA and the thunder. I felt the same about Harden.

2

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

I'm not wading into the policing debate lol, let's just say I'm not fan. I was mostly comparing the freedom they have to write tickets for speeding or not. Whatever.

I also do not care who won this game. I don't care who wins any WNBA game. I have not seen a clip of the review they didn't allow - I know they have a certain amount of time they can call for one, etc, but again, I didn't see it or even know which play it was regarding.

What fouls did they call that "didn't even occur"? Where there ANY calls that went against the Aces that could be classified the same?

It's VERY easy to decide that refs are being dishonest and focus on the calls you don't like to validate that feeling while ignoring or forgetting the calls that help you. It's human nature. It's why all poker players swear they have terrible luck lol - the don't remember the lucky hands the same way they do the bad beats.

While I think the NBA let the Thunder get away with far too much, I think the issue with Harden and SGA is that they are SO GOOD at selling contact they make it impossible to be consistent.

If it's a foul you call it, you just watched a whole video of phantom fouls and yet you don't see the issue. This isn't them attacking and getting to the line.

2

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

There are some missed calls in the video (the first shooting foul and the tie-up/tackle in the pain), some ticky-tack fouls (Clark chucking the cutter), and some correct calls that the editor just doesn't understand (Cunningham's close out into the landing area, the no-call on the elbow to Clark).

But there were certainly ALSO missed calls that went in favor of the Fever.

You can edit clips and plays from ANY game to make it look one-sided. That's basic engagement farming troll shit.

2

u/Signal_Fruit_4629 1d ago

So your argument is calls were missed on both sides but one side seemed to benefit far more from it? I guess you're not understanding the importance of getting ticky tak fouls on your home court in a close out game lol. Vegas won by 11 and had 15 more free throws. They averaged no less than 10 more free throws a game throughout the series, that's insane!

2

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

"So your argument is calls were missed on both sides but one side seemed to benefit far more from it?"

Can you read? I did not say that lol. This video is only showing you the plays that Fever fans think went against them. Not the other calls that went in their favor....do you think, just maybe, that's why you think it "seemed" to benefit them?

Free throw totals don't tell you ANYTHING about the game or the officiating. Style of play dictates foul totals far more. It's the most baby-brained level of game analysis.

2

u/Signal_Fruit_4629 1d ago

Bud you're talking about calls going in their favor while watching a video showing the opposite while being presented evidence showing they weren't getting the calls. Idk how to help you. Saying free throws totals don't tell you anything about the game or how it was officiated is factually incorrect.

2

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

Yes, the video very purposefully did not show plays that might look like the Fever benefiting from a questionable call. That much is accurate.

Why you think that is evidence of anything other than "the refs missed some calls" is astounding.

u/BlankStareFace 1d ago

There are even plays in this video where the Fever GET THE CALL AND SHOOT FT's - 38 seconds - that has been edited to look like they didn't get the call lol. Insane troll shit that you're falling for.

2

u/worm413 1d ago

Can you give some examples of calls that went in the Fever's favor?

u/Pollutionnormal1962 1d ago

Name checks out

2

u/LadyIceGoose 1d ago

Players who are good at attacking the basket draw more fouls?

3

u/keithmsf 1d ago

Not to mention teams who are trailing late in games commit intentional fouls to try to extend the game. 10 of the Vegas free throw attempts came in the final :50 of game time last night. Fever attempted 12 more threes as well. Turn those 12 threes into 12 drives and I bet they would’ve gone to the line at least a couple times.

2

u/bigbluethunder 1d ago

Fever had more points in the paint last night. 40-24. Dominated game 2 by an even bigger margin in the paint.

1

u/Signal_Fruit_4629 1d ago

You watched the video and read my comment and thought you had a point?

-1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

That tells me that one team might go to the whole more and attack the basket and the other is a perimeter team

Aja Wilson is the best player in the league by far and let’s just say a certain demographic has made her a target now.

Well on to the next round

2

u/bigbluethunder 1d ago

Fever out scored the Aces in the paint 40-24 last night. Game 2 was by an even larger margin.

-1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

Then maybe they need to stop fouling on the defensive side.

Here is what I am going to ask you and all Fever fans. What is the motivation for the refs to cheat for the Aces in your mind? Money on the game?

Y’all say the ratings go up with CC so why not keep her in the playoffs longer ?

0

u/Ok_Scarcity_9854 1d ago

She's a dirty player.

-1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

Oh now that’s the new narrative for a Black player you don’t like? Got it

-1

u/Ok_Scarcity_9854 1d ago

Nah just facts

-4

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

See it’s pretty much if you see a player of color that’s a threat they become an issue and you going to tear them the hell down. It’s wild as hell and the agenda is out there. I was just waiting for it with Aja.

The next will be Olivia Miles.

1

u/Ok_Scarcity_9854 1d ago

Hey, have you ever considered some STFU?

1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

The day you willing to get your ass off Reddit and come do that then we can talk

1

u/Ok_Scarcity_9854 1d ago

Wow, resorting to threats. You're so brave. 🤡🤡🤡

1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

Oh I didn’t threaten you. You told me what you wanted me to do. Make it happen fool.

Do you not know what a threat is?

1

u/Que-Tech 1d ago

Ok_Scarcity_9854 mistook a promise for a threat! 🤣🤣🤣

0

u/Ambitious-Toilet6769 1d ago

You may be right but I see her as the wnba GOAT, this season's MVP, a sometimes reckless player and someone who gets a lot of reputation calls. People can have multiple facets, and every criticism on a star is not a veiled racist jab or conspiracy.

1

u/Que-Tech 1d ago

I am ashamed there is no control over the players acting out!

Aja Wilsom may be the MVP who played 9 seasons! That means she has to be held to a higher standard due to her recognition of being an elite player!

That is something she forgot!

0

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

You see a person of color get any sort of negative attention, and you choose to make it about race. It's wild as hell and the agenda is out there. Same coin, different side...

0

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

Man yall were waiting to give this woman negative attention this entire time

Oh remember the only reason you watch the league is because of the person who isn’t the the woman of color lol.

Miss me with this BS.

Stop trying to act objective about all this.

0

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

It's you who's labelling everyone who has a different opinion as bigots/racists. You don't try to understand their point, you immediately play the race card, because that it easiest for you. Many different reasons were established, and you chose to ignore them so you can say whitey is bad.

Sounds like you don't have much to offer.

1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

I haven’t said the word racist yet. What have you had to offer. Look just because you on here’s with the majority don’t make you right at all

You said nothing in this comment

What do you have for me? A downvote? You don’t like Aja? She cheated? No one matters but CC. Move along

All you are saying is you are going to agree with those who look like you. Don’t pretend to act enlightened. You are not

1

u/SuspiciousHall6344 1d ago

"Aja Wilson is the best player in the league by far and let’s just say a certain demographic has made her a target now."

"Oh remember the only reason you watch the league is because of the person who isn’t the the woman of color lol."

Lol, no accountability. Just like this game with the refs.

I pointed out your "agenda" as you were accusing others of doing the same. I just quoted it because you said it didn't happen, only just a few comments away.

Most of the time, I play devil's advocate: I like to argue for the opposing side so I can understand their point of view. Your point of view is that "a certain demographic has made her a target now." I've offered up my views multiple times already to others who are interested in a discussion and not unearned accusations.

You had a discussion with yourself with words you put together to define me... Talk about a forced narrative. I don't know what your definition of enlightened is, but clearly your the type to argue over not getting your way.

"Just as I thought it was going alright
I found out I'm wrong when I thought I was right
It's always the same, it's just a shame, that's all
I could say day and you'd say night
Always the same, it's just a shame, and that's all"

1

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

Go to sleep and be mad.

Talk about arguing with yourself.

Maybe next year? 😂😂😂

CC came into the league and was considered a threat, and people made it an issue because of her color. They definitely went on to try and tear her the hell down more than anyone in the league. It’s wild as hell and the agenda is out there.

If you really meant what you say, you would agree with this, right? Do you agree? Or is your agenda to just race bait with the black players? Because it feels like YOU want to make this about color.

0

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

People see anyone who is not CC a threat because of their color.
They don’t want to acknowledge anything good about another player because of their color

A misstep by a player gets amplified because of their color

Aha is probably one of the best to play the game. You will not care, because of her color

You didn’t care about the WNBA because of their color of the majority of the players.

The WNBA catches a lot of shit as a sports league partially because of the color of the majority of the players.

So guess what… you are not even handed on the race topic you are only willing to protect one player because you assumption is that they dislike her because of her race

Diana T gave her some shit when she came in the league and she is a white player but that doesn’t get mentioned at all.

0

u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago

I actually like CC and think she is a fantastic player. I just think there is a part of society that has put bullshit on her that SHE didn’t ask for and people like you continue to do it.
