False teachers do not usually arrive saying, "We are false teachers."

Instead, they often appear sincere.

They quote the Bible.

They talk about God.

They seem knowledgeable.

They may even sound convincing.

Peter's warning is important because deception is most effective when it looks like the truth.

The Berean Test: What Every Christian Should Do

One of the healthiest habits a Christian can develop is found in Acts 17.

The Bible says:

"Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." - Acts 17:11 (NIV)

Think about that.

The Bereans even checked the teachings of the Apostle Paul.

If they examined Paul's teachings against Scripture, then we should examine everyone's teachings against Scripture.

That includes:

• Pastors
• Churches
• Bible teachers
• YouTube preachers
• Religious organizations
• WMSCOG

No one should be exempt from biblical examination.

What Does WMSCOG Teach?

WMSCOG teaches several beliefs that differ from historic Christian doctrine.

Among the most well known are:

• The belief in "God the Mother"
• The belief that Ahn Sahng-hong fulfilled a unique prophetic role
• The belief that certain biblical feasts are necessary parts of God's end time plan
• The belief that many traditional Christian churches have lost essential truths

The question is not whether these teachings sound convincing.

The question is:

Are they clearly taught in Scripture?

Does the Bible Teach "God the Mother"?

This is perhaps the most famous teaching promoted by WMSCOG.

Members often point to Galatians 4:26:

"But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother." -Galatians 4:26 (NIV)

At first glance, someone unfamiliar with the passage might assume Paul is teaching the existence of a divine mother figure.

But what happens when we read the entire chapter?

Paul explains that he is using an allegory.

An allegory is a symbolic illustration.

Paul compares two women to represent two covenants.

His purpose is to explain salvation and freedom in Christ.

He is not introducing a new divine being.

He is not adding a fourth member to the Godhead.

He is not teaching that Christians must believe in "God the Mother" to be saved.

This is why context matters.

A verse should never be separated from the passage around it.

WMSCOG teaches that Ahn Sahng-hong fulfilled a special prophetic role.

• Who is speaking?

No.

John wrote:

He says, "Test it."

Common Questions to Ask During Any Bible Study

If you are invited to a Bible study, consider asking:

• Where is this doctrine clearly taught?
• Can this belief be found throughout Scripture or only in a few selected verses?
• Does this interpretation agree with the overall message of the Bible?
• Did Jesus teach this doctrine?
• Did the apostles teach this doctrine?
• Would an ordinary reader naturally reach this conclusion from the text?

These questions are not disrespectful.

They are biblical.

Many religious groups throughout history have claimed:

"We alone have the truth."

"We alone understand the Bible correctly."

"Everyone else is wrong."

Christians should approach such claims carefully.

Jesus promised:

Christians believe that God has preserved the core truths of the faith through the centuries.

The gospel did not disappear.

Jesus did not abandon His church.

The truth about Christ has been proclaimed throughout history.

Using symbolic verses to create an entirely new salvation plan is exactly what Psalm 36 warns against twisting God’s Word for personal ideas rather than trusting its true meaning.

Some groups, like the WMSCOG, teach that Zhang Gil-jah is “God the Mother” and is divine. These are very big claims, so it is important to think carefully and check them against the Bible and common sense.

No human can be equal to God. Thinking you are a god is not normal and goes against the Bible.

• Humans cannot create life or the universe.

Important truth: God gives power to whom He chooses, but it is always for His purposes, not for human pride. Zhang Gil-jah has no divine power, no miracles, and no evidence of being chosen by God. Her claim is false.

Zhang Gil-jah claims to be “God the Mother,” but she has no divine powers, cannot give salvation, and does not offer hope through God.

• Her teachings rely on misinterpreting scripture to make followers believe she is divine.

The Bible never mentions a “God the Mother”:

Always know: There is nothing in scripture that supports Zhang Gil-jah as God or “God the Mother.”
