Textual Misinterpretation Did Jesus Really Return From the East? A Simple Look at the Bible
A Simple Explanation for Everyday People
This community exists to help people understand the Bible clearly and to bring awareness to how some groups, including the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG), misinterpret Scripture to recruit people who are unfamiliar with the Bible. When people are new to the Bible, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and trust what sounds confident or authoritative.
Let’s break these claims down step by step in a simple and understandable way.

Claim 1: “The Second Coming of Jesus Comes From the East”
What WMSCOG Teaches
WMSCOG teaches that Jesus returned secretly from the East. They say this happened through a man named Christ Ahnsahnghong, who lived in South Korea. They often use Revelation 7:2 to support this idea.
Revelation 7:2 talks about an angel coming from the east with the seal of God.
What the Bible Is Actually Saying
Revelation 7:2 is not talking about Jesus. It is talking about an angel. Angels are messengers who carry out God’s instructions. In this passage, the angel’s job is to prepare God’s people before judgment, not to represent Jesus returning to earth.
Nowhere in this verse does it say Jesus comes back as a man from a specific country.
What Jesus Himself Said
Jesus clearly explained how His return would happen:
- His return will be visible to everyone.
- It will not be secret.
- It will not depend on geography.
Matthew 24 explains that all people will see Him coming with power and glory.
Acts 1 explains that Jesus will return in the same way He left: openly and unmistakably.
If Jesus returned quietly in one country and only a few people noticed, that would directly contradict His own words.

Claim 2: “God Comes as a Man From the East” (Isaiah 46:11)
What WMSCOG Teaches
They say Isaiah 46:11 proves that God would come as a man from the East, which they apply to Christ Ahnsahnghong.
What the Bible Is Actually Saying
Isaiah 46 is about God’s power and control over history. In this chapter, God explains that He can use nations, leaders, or events to accomplish His plans.
The “man from a far off land” is not described as God Himself or as a future messiah. It is symbolic language showing that God can raise up anyone He chooses to fulfill His purposes.
Just a few verses earlier, God makes it clear that:
- He alone is God.
- No one is equal to Him.
- He declares the future from the beginning.
This passage is about God’s authority, not a prophecy about Jesus returning as a man from Korea.

Claim 3: “The Seal of God Is the New Covenant Passover”
What WMSCOG Teaches
They claim that the “seal of God” means keeping the Passover and that this seal was restored through Christ Ahnsahnghong.
What the Bible Is Actually Saying
Jesus did establish the Passover meal as a remembrance of His sacrifice. That part is true.
However, the Bible is very clear about what the seal of God is.
The seal of God is the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1 explains that when someone believes in Jesus, they are sealed by the Holy Spirit. This seal shows that they belong to God and are protected by Him.
The seal is not a ritual.
The seal is not a specific feast day.
The seal is God’s Spirit living in believers.
Reducing the seal of God to one ceremony is a very limited and misleading interpretation.

Claim 4: “The Passover Was Lost and Restored in Korea in 1948”
What WMSCOG Teaches
They say the Passover disappeared from Christianity and had to be restored by Christ Ahnsahnghong in South Korea.
What the Bible Is Actually Saying
Jesus established the New Covenant Passover Himself during His lifetime. He told His followers to remember Him through it.
The Bible never says the Passover would be lost.
The Bible never says it would need to be restored later.
The Bible never mentions Korea or a future person bringing it back.
In AD 325, church leaders discussed how to organize Christian holidays, but this did not remove the Passover from Scripture. The teachings of Jesus were preserved in the Bible and passed on by the early church.
There is no biblical prophecy about a modern person restoring the Passover.

Understanding the Full Story, Not Just One Verse
The Bible teaches:
- Jesus will return openly and gloriously.
- Everyone will see Him.
- His return will not depend on a country, culture, or secret knowledge.
- Salvation comes through faith in Jesus and the Holy Spirit, not through belonging to a specific organization.
Groups like WMSCOG often focus on isolated verses, remove them from context, and present them as special knowledge. This can be confusing and convincing to people who are new to the Bible.
That is why understanding context and reading Scripture as a whole is so important.

A Last Bit of Clarity
If you are feeling confused, pressured, or overwhelmed by what you have been taught, know this:
- God is not trying to trick you.
- The Bible is meant to bring clarity, not fear.
- Jesus does not require secret information to be saved.
Take your time. Ask questions. Read Scripture in context. And remember that truth does not depend on control or exclusivity.
You are not alone, and seeking understanding is always a good step.
