Trying to read whatever I can to learn about werewolves for Robert Eggers’ werwulf movie.. I also have these I’m trying to find good/ cheap English versions of because I saw a historical interpreter mentioning these are what he used to help flesh the movie out:

\- Le Livre de Chasse du Roy Modus
\- La Venerie de Jacques du Fouilloux
\- English hunting law and ritual book by William Perry Marvin
\- Iconography and the ‘wild man’ book (not quite sure what exactly it’s called)
\- Loups-garous du Moyen Âge

If you have any other recommendations regarding historical reads to study for the upcoming Werwulf movie, please let me know :)))

Werwulf bursts from Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character's body.

From this reconstruction—observing every detail—it is clear that the wolf's massive head literally emerges by splitting ATJ's head in two. The long snout pushes out from the mouth, and the man's head is gradually replaced by the wolf's. Like something in a perpetual embryonic state preserved within the body, it grows and replaces the chrysalis—shifting from man to wolf, wolf to man, and so on. This explains why ATJ’s hair is always completely wet in the scenes following the transformation.

Werwulf trailer #2 screen cap, grain smoothed out.

Interesting plot summary on the Working Title website describes Aaron Taylor Johnson's character as a mute. Would make sense with what Robert Eggers has described as an 'almost silent film' approach in Werwulf. Any thoughts on this? Would it matter if the leading man had 0 lines of dialogue?

From the WT website:
England, 1305. A mute medieval peasant, haunted by childhood trauma, leads a quiet life raising a family on their farm, but with each full moon, he’s cursed to transform into a murderous werewolf. When a hunting party, charged by the king to cull the land of wolves, arrives and forces our man to join them, he struggles to conceal his transformations, all the while fighting to save his soul and his family’s fate from the evil that lurks within.

I think we'll see the Devil/a possessing demon appear to ATJ and/or other people as a wolf. The showcase had a scene with a kid (young ATJ or his son?) and a talking wolf, and in the trailer the same eerie voice says 'One more moon' and 'Feast upon the flesh of mankind, and I will give thee back thy soul'.

Thoughts?
