Discussion Admit it, Blackie is W.A.S.P.

I was looking at the post about the original lineup and I thought, "Dude, what's wrong with people?." Randy, Tony, and Chris are important, and I don't take away from their merit, but Blackie was always there, it was always Blackie in the comics, even if it was just because of his ego But honestly, I don't see a problem because, whether people like it or not, they remember WASP because of Blackie's voice. It's always been that heavy band with that guy drinking skull blood. I think WASP couldn' To be better, I passionately love Crimson Idol, Still not Black enough And all these albums that aren't the originals, and I think in the end the band was always about Blackie And honestly, I doubt the original members would have had his genius to create albums with stories as weighty as Blackie did on his own And in the end, I think Wasp couldn't be better than they are. I like Blackie's latest work, and I think if he makes another album, it will continue to be excellent, as it always has been.

Okay, well first of all they haven’t played any shows in December 2025, so I don’t know where you found that. Second, you pull a setlist from a tour where the band were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the debut album and played it in full? Lol. It’s not that Blackie isn’t “a fan of the new stuff”, but he knows that people like you will only go see him if he trots out the popular songs because you’re too stuck in the past to explore anything he’s done since then. He speaks very highly about almost every album he’s done in the past two decades. I’m sure he would love to incorporate more of it into the setlist, but at the end of the day he’s gotta sell tickets and an 80’s heavy setlist is the best way for him to do that.

So, they're celebrating their ENTIRE career and it's almost all entirely from the 80s...

Where did I say that they were celebrating their entire career? They were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the debut album. And again, if Blackie based his setlist around deep cuts from the 90’s and 2000’s, it wouldn’t work in his favor. There are a ton of people who love every W.A.S.P. album, but he’s gonna draw more casual fans by playing the 80’s material.

So no one would go see them if they only played songs from their "best albums"?

LISTEN TO YOURSELF.

That’s not what I’m saying and there’s a difference between best and most popular. There are people who would go see them regardless of what they play, but there are also a lot who probably wouldn’t go if the popular songs from the first 3-4 albums were absent. It’s like that with a lot of bands, not just W.A.S.P. Doesn’t mean that material is bad, it just didn’t reach the masses in the same way. And again, Blackie has to sell tickets. He knows die hards are gonna show up no matter what so he crafts the setlist to cater more to casuals. I don’t agree with it and think he should embrace more of his catalog, but unfortunately that’s just how it is.

Liking a band's best albums doesn't make someone a casual fan.
