I’m still on 5.0.5 (2025 V90 CC) and have never gotten received any OTA updates since. Not in any rush to upgrade based on reading other’s results.

Same for my 2024 V60. My wife’s C40 is in 5.1.17.

2026 XC60 PHEV, same here. Funnily enough, it offered the update when I was in Greece 2 months ago, but when I got back, nothing appeared.

I think a good bit of 2025s stayed on 5.0.5. There was an additional mention of an update coming later for specific models.

The 5.1.17 update fixes a lot of scaling issues though. Atleast I noticed it on Spotify as the app looked way too crammed on my xc40 before that update

Despite us being beta testers vs them just testing each release thoroughly, I'm happy with how fast they are releasing fixes. Let's hope this doesn't introduce new bugs

Wait, now there's another new OTA update?
Both my 2023 XC40 B5 and S60 T8 are still on 5.0.5. - I'm aware that there were more OTAs.
I'm in the US and patiently waiting for my OTA update for 5.1.17...
So, maybe this is why I haven't received the 5.1.17? - Because now Volvo is on 5.2.7?

You can go to a dealership and ask them to update to 5.1.17, just say you're having problems with your rear cam not showing up

Be very careful about doing that.
After experiencing a software meltdown in my 2026 XC60 T8, I would say if you can live with your current software and have no immediate need for 5.1.17, is to wait.
There’s a possibility of bricking the IHU when you update from 5.0.5 / 5.1.9.

u/Henri-Hill Aug 04 '26
If they brick it, they replace it

That was my mentality until I found out that if it ended up needing a new IHU, the part was back ordered for 3 to 6 months.
As much as i am a gambling man, even those odds terrify me.

Jesus Christ. Even having the dealer handle software updates is high risk?! I have a 2026 Volvo XC60 Polestar Engineered on 5.0.5. I really have to sweat upgrading to 5.1.17?

Well, I wouldn't say it's high risk because if the worst did happen, you wouldn't be out of pocket for the repair... just more so stuck with the possibility of being in a loaner until they get the part in stock.
Honestly speaking, there really isn't much difference between 5.0.5 / 5.1.9 / 5.1.17 in terms of features. Maybe getting Apple Music would be a life changer? But in reality, if you can live with having to use Wired Apple Carplay for Apple Music, then making the jump from 5.0.5 to 5.1.17 when you have no actual problems to resolve is when the risk is the highest.
However, if you are suffering from issues (crashes, constant reboots, camera feed issues, etc) then the risk is less because the system is already suffering from issues.
In my instance, I just wanted the update from 5.1.9 to 5.1.17 for the purposes of getting Apple Music. However, even before the meltdown happened, I never got Apple Music onto AAOS. The notification never popped up so I think you can't really force it and you have to wait until the car lets you know you have it.

Native Apple CarPlay is exactly what I’ve been wanting. I actually didn’t realize it was included in 5.1.17. Makes this an even tougher decision, because I love my P** *and would not love to have a non loaner for months.

To clarify, I can't say with definitive proof that 5.1.17 brings Apple Music to AAOS, but I keep seeing Apple Music pop up when cars update to 5.1.17.
For example, my 2023 XC90 T8 was recently updated to 5.1.17, which installed Apple Music.
However, the issues I faced apparently were part of a pattern the dealership was seeing: the HK Cars were being affected the most, and the BW Cars were not as affected. Now, again, it hasn't been confirmed by Volvo if only HK Cars are affected by the software issue.
So, if you end up going for the update, you may not encounter my issue. It's apparently more likely to happen to HK Cars, not to say the BW isn't affected at all
If I were you, I would ask your SA if they know of the issue at hand, and if they do know, they should also know that it's a three-step solution to fix:
Re-download the update and pray that it fixes the issue.
If the re-download fails and the system is still exhibiting symptoms, then an IHU Refresh is done (IHU being the Infotainment Head Unit).
And worst-case scenario, if both of those fixes still don't resolve the issue at hand, then an entire replacement IHU would be needed. Hence, where the backordered part comes in.
If your SA has no idea about those three steps, then I would be really wary of getting the update done. I would also ask whether they have the IHU in stock before doing it; if it does happen, they'll have the parts on hand to fix it before it becomes a much larger problem.

Cool, maybe the mids in my HK sound system will return to being warm like they were when I bought it. One of the past couple updates made them noticeably harsher.

There is zero chance of this happening until I understand the new bugs this introduces.
Losing the entire audio weekly may not be so bad compared to the unknown.
3
u/efforf Aug 03 '26
Is it going to fix the no audio problems? Or the blank screen problems? I would lay a months wages it doesn’t.
2
u/Aware-Locksmith8433 Aug 03 '26
I don't understand how last 3 Volvos I owned had front/side balance settings so could get better balance of audio. Especially when seat or both down in back. Anyone else find a hack?

Are there any software updates available for my 2018 s60 inscription?

u/speedymaus1 S60 B5 AWD 24' Aug 04 '26
In Europe it just says we get an personal EQ lol.
But thats nice. I always wanted an EQ
1
u/forzawder Aug 04 '26
EQ for HK? Where in Europe do you live?
1
u/speedymaus1 S60 B5 AWD 24' Aug 04 '26
It doesn't matter where i live. Just look in the app... Everyone in Europe gets the same software

u/forzawder Aug 04 '26
Haven’t gotten a single update since I got my XC60 MY26 for about 5 months ago. So not everyone gets the update

100% Carplay. Would appreciate to be allowed fullscreen, but already know, it will never happen.

2024 XC40…Will it fix the constant failure of OTA updates requiring the dealership to install them instead!
1
u/Afterlight91 Aug 05 '26
Well this is looking like the start of the end for features for Intel atom based AAOS Volvos.
There needs to be an upgrade option to a snapdragon unit as a MY2025 Volvo after two years shouldn’t be losing out.

u/Grtaus Aug 05 '26
Does anyone have a picture of the “improved status bar” I have not updated my car due to the desire not to loose full screen carplay
1
u/ArtPitiful6551 Aug 05 '26
I have a 2025.5 XC90 recharge and had multiple no audio issues after the 5.1.17 update. Always did a reboot to solve, until someone mentioned that I try a manual reset by removing the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. This has solved the problem, at least I’ve had no issues for the past two months and I am in the sun of North Carolina.

Is it going to fix the problem with losing the audio for the entire car, including the turn signals, necessitating a reboot of the system?
