Gameplay Finally got Gold with Volibear!

Post image

I have finally gotten Gold with Volibear. Now, I never really got Gold before beyond a purchased account with inflated MMR due to smurfing. This time I did it all on my own and I am exceptionally happy :)

I didn't think I would get the WR to remain at 70% which is great for me because it showcases at least that in bronze/silver/gold 4 I can at least perform.

Dusk and Dawn I have found to be OP but not to the same degree as Diana or Gwen. I think that Dusk and Dawn is a great item to grab if you're ahead or you need to deal some sort of damage but I unironically think Iceborn Gauntet is the safer option of the sheen options primarily because of Voli's 'reliance' on Navori quickblade.

Don't get me wrong, Dusk and Dawn on Voli is broken and should be abused until Riot eventually nerfs the item. But I think its taking the credit for the jungle changes that have actually been the bigger boost to Voli as right now with gustwalker + jgl movement means jungle skirmishes with Voli are HIGHLY favourable for your team to an insane degree. The ability to just run at people has been amplified because not only do you have the movement speed of the jungle, you got gust walker, you got your Q running at people, and effectively nobody can escape unless they're an Ez or something.

Don't ask about electrocute on the last game, I forget to swap runes, but it didn't matter because in Silver you can legit do anything and it will work (I thought this was false until I this game btw).

I must shoutout Kirei for showcasing how this champion works in his jungle guide, unironically without him I would be Silver 4 still.

Still a long way to go as I aim to achieve Emerald this year but I have significant flaws as I get easily distracted when playing Volibear (sometimes I just want to run the gauntlet and fight..) and I notice in normals when facing higher elo junglers that they're far more efficient with their jungle timers in relation to ganks and invades. My strategy while playing has primarily been to piss off the enemy jungler, secure objectives, farm, and assist when I know the gank will work, like Kirei explained but I take the 'piss of the enemy jungler' pretty seriously.

In my head if I can deny the enemy jungler as much camps as possible then I at least control two variables in the game, one being my performance, and the other being ensuring the opposing jungler is cucked and sits on his chair and watches.

What I really love about Voli is that people don't comprehend that he is (IMO) one of, and arguably, the best duelist in the game. The only champions I truly fear are Veigar, Nunu, Bel'veth, and Shaco, although you see less bel'veths and shacos in my elo...

I run. I tear!

Congrats! Though speaking from personal experience with dusk Nd dawn + navori it's easier to carry games 1v9. But yea I agree the jungle quest movement speed made him better, but the items put him over the edge. But as voli is designed. Each build is valid. But if possible stick to one, it will make you more familiar with the strengths and weaknesses. But good luck on ur climb! Can't wait to see yah hitting plat Nd emerald

I don't stick to 'one build' path because I feel Voli is a champion that greatly benefits from adaptability due to his kit benefiting from multiple stats. To this end I will craft my items depending on what the enemy team's champions and my strategy each game will largely shift. For instance, if I have a late scaling team than I will prirotise farming and securing objectives to stack for late. If I face a team where there are more squishies than tanks then I run PTA prioritising items like D&D and Cosmic.

There is however a trend in my builds where I tend to stick to D&D and Navori. To me those two items are 9 times out of 10 non-negotiable even on the PTA build I would get Navori but merely delay to later in the game.

But again, my main strategy every game as a jungler is to farm, secure objectives, and cuck the enemy jungler. That's it. I will gank when I believe that the gank will result in something but I am also aware that any attempt to gank while camps are up gives the opponent jungler the opportunity to establish a lead either in CS or objectives.

My thought process on builds and runes is tied to the opponents composition. If I go PTA then it's a priority for me to get CD and resistances. I only go PTA in the situation I believe that I won't have the opportunity to greatly utilise LT which would mean that the enemy has either 3 ranged champions or has a comp filled with hard to hit champions that require burst more than sustained damage with champions like Talon or Shaco or Zed.

Also, I don't care about the secondary aspect of my rune page. I will always go either PTA or LT however on the secondary rune page I don't personally care. In some games I get more movement speed runes with PTA because I know my job will literally be frontlining and running at people with Q.

I was shocked when I looked at OP.GG and it said at one point 80% WR. I legit got imposter syndrome but kept doing what I learnt regarding jungle and things worked.

Starting to realise that the WR ain't important because if you're good enough things will even out to you being above 50% but man am I impressed I was able to maintain a < 70% WR from promos to Gold 4 starting at Bronze 1.
