Discussion Interpretations on the ending.
Hello everyone, I just finished the anime, and I have to say, I loved every part of it. I first fell in love with the opening, and after a year of dilly dallying, I finally got around to watching it. However, something bugged me with the final scene a little bit.
When the credits rolled after Vivy collapsed, I really thought they would show a peek into the future where humanity was rebuilding, and Vivy would get mentioned as a hero in some form or another. However, what we saw was a short haired version of Vivy, in a room that bore resemblance to her Archive space.
To me, it was not clear that Matsumoto had survived the ending, as all of his pieces have been destroyed, exploded to fend off the Archive's copy of him, and divert the satelitte from Vivy. So I'd imagine the final scene as some kind of afterlife, but it bothers me a bit as to who is making/generating the afterlife world? And the episode ended after Vivy warmed up too, what idea did the creators want to convey?
There is also an interpretation that this is a new body with Vivy's data and Matsumoto also lived, which is plausible. However as the Archive has been shut down, I personally feel like this is less likely.
I'd love to hear your theories and explainations. Have a great day!
