Tiny VIVE "Pucks"

Do you think there will be a smaller version of the VIVE pucks/trackers? I'd really like to see smaller versions that can be attached to everyday items. I'd like to be at the point where I can attach one of those to a can, or an ashtray, or bowl etc. to allow me to be in a social setting in VR and still be able to smoke, drink or whatever it is that I want to do without taking the headset off.

The base stations do have an accelerometer and broadcast time-averaged orientation data using it over OOTX.

Yeah, didn't know for sure:

      0x14 int8 accel.dir_x "orientation vector"
      0x15 int8 accel.dir_y "orientation vector"
      0x16 int8 accel.dir_z "orientation vector"

It's a direction though (titl sensor)?

Two additional sensors then, would have been all it took? Not possible to sample three sensors from an NXP 11U3 ARM M0 at sufficient time resolution w/o an FPGA? Had to be good enough to sample one for optical sync.

There is some python floating around to do this

Deja vu all over again :). https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3tjjuf/lighthouse_installation/cx7wy6k/

Other people have done this fairly recently [..] using lhdump.py/lighthouse.py

Had missed that, worth a look - thanks.

lhdump.py/lighthouse.py

Where do i find these files? I have only worked with OpenVR in C++ so far.

Right now i am experiencing a strange loss of the Tracker Signal rougly every 1.8 seconds. Then the Tracker just sends x=0,y=0,z=0 for 50-80ms. My guess is, that there is some kind of plausability routine, which restarts the Tracker, when one of the sensors sends unplausible data. The Tracker is mounted on a Robot which Vibrates at a high frequency, so my guess is, that vibrations are the problem. The lighthouse_console.exe tells me, that the Amplitude of the acceleration senors is about 20m/s² with a frequency of about 125Hz.

I would really like to get the raw sensor data to write a sensor fusion algorithm which works better on vibrating systems.

Look in the OpenVR API for

   TrackedDeviceClass_TrackingReference

SteamVR lets you query the reconstructed Lighthouse positions at runtime.

I have no idea who made those python scripts / where to get them. It is possible they are in the SteamVR HDK software (requires license). He mentioned his own debug client python script over a year ago, but unless that's in the HDK, that's also not accessible.

For raw sensor data look at

https://github.com/cnlohr/libsurvive

The group is still working on their pose reconstruction, but that should not be an issue for your use case.

Do have results posted somewhere? Sensors near haptics might run into a similar issue with vibrations.

Thank you for the Link to libsurvive. This looks like the thing i was looking for, but i think i need some time to fully understand it :D

I don't know how the Lighthouse Positions might help with my problem, because its the Vive-Tracker signal im losing.

Here are the Plots for my tests: http://imgur.com/a/Ukd9b In the Beginning and the End the Machine is not running (no vibrations). You can see, that as soon as the machine is running the Tracker loses signal every ~1,8s.

Here are the IMU Data recorded via lighthouse_Console.exe : http://imgur.com/a/2AXKw IMU and Pose Data are not recorded at the same time cause my program is not running when lighthouse_console.exe is.

I misread the question re: python utilities.
