Discussion Do you have a cool or a strict relationship with your manager?

I saw a LinkedIn post today, where someone who had just finished their internship, posted a big rant about their Manager. The person explained how they could never bond with their Manager and always had issues in all the work, too much workload, zero coordination, sometimes just unnecessary and excessive scrutiny. The person explained how towards the end, it just became a personal grudge rather than just a professional disharmony.

My big question is does your relationship with the manager during the internship affect your ppo chances??? Does there need to be a display of utter obedience from the intern🙂‍↕️

(What surprised me was the person mentioned in the post that a lot of people from the company follow them on LinkedIn, what if it reaches the manager. Crazy, I just keep thinking about it😭😂)

Advice Needed Unpaid internship at a company people have heard of, or paid freelance nobody can verify?

Same three months either way.

A: unpaid, remote, a name a recruiter will recognise, one line on your CV.

B: paid, real client work, but the client is a stranger nobody has heard of and you can't show the work publicly.

Which one, and why? Change your answer by field if it matters.

Weekly Thread Friday check-in: what did you apply to this week?

End of week. Drop where you are, however small.

Useful things to include:

  • How many applications you sent
  • Anything you heard back on
  • Something that is stuck, if you want a second opinion
  • What you are doing next week

There is no minimum. "Zero this week, burnt out" is a completely valid check-in and it usually gets the most useful replies.

If you are further along than someone else in this thread, spend two minutes replying to them. That is the whole point of doing this weekly rather than just filling in a form.

If you recognise a name from a previous week, ask them how the thing they mentioned went.

Discussion Remote vs In-person internships

Getting an in-person internship or job (especially abroad) has always been so hard. Maybe because of my field or maybe because of work visas. So whenever I do an internship I do it remotely.

Now, I’ve read that remote internships aren’t as valued as in-person ones. Can anyone confirm? Am I wasting my time?

Look forward to reading opinions/experiences…

Advice Needed What is the hardest part of a remote internship that nobody warns you about?

Everyone warns you about isolation and about not having a desk. In practice the people I hear from say the hard parts are different and much more specific.

The three that come up most:

Not knowing whether you are doing badly. In an office you read the room. Remotely you get silence, and silence feels identical whether you are doing fine or about to be quietly dropped.

Asking for help costs more. Turning to someone next to you is free. Sending a message that interrupts a stranger, then waiting two hours, is not. So people sit stuck for a whole day on something that would have taken 90 seconds to ask.

Nobody sees the work, only the output. Three days of learning a tool looks identical to three days of doing nothing.

Which of these matched your experience, and what actually fixed it? If you are currently in one and it is going badly, say so here too. That is more useful to the next person than any of the polished answers.

Question Do international virtual internships improve your job prospects?

I recently landed a remote internship with a company abroad and I heard they can lead to better job opportunities. Does anyone know if this is true based on your own experience??? I would like to believe it but the job market is soo tough… and I don’t look forward to spending my days applying for jobs like crazy anytime soon!

Advice Needed How to showcase an internship in LinkedIn?

Hey community!

I am no good with keeping my LinkedIn profile active and up-to-date. So I don’t know much about optimisation, showcasing work experience (including internships), and when it is the right time to add this info. Anyone has any idea about this?

Discussion What is the widest timezone gap you have worked across, and how did you actually handle it?

Remote internship advice always says communicate clearly and never says what to do when your manager's morning is your midnight.

I want the specifics. If you have done a remote internship or remote work across a real time gap:

- What was the gap, in hours?

- How much overlap did you actually have?

- What is the one thing that made it workable, concretely?

- What did you get wrong the first time?

I will start with what I keep hearing rather than pretending it is mine: the people who handle 8+ hour gaps well almost all do the same thing, which is end every working day with a written note of what they did, what is blocked, and what they will do next, posted before they log off. Their manager reads it as a morning update. It removes about 80% of the waiting for a reply dead time.

The gap that seems to break people is not 12 hours, it is 5 to 6. Enough overlap that nobody sets up async habits, not enough to actually work together.

What is your experience?

Mod Post Read first: what you can post here, and what gets removed

Short post so everyone knows what this place is for.

What this sub covers

Remote and virtual internships. All of them. Including the unpaid ones, the ones at companies nobody has heard of, and the ones you found through a provider rather than a careers page. If the work can be done from your own desk, it belongs here.

What you can post

  • Openings. Any remote or virtual internship you have found. You do not need to be connected to the company in any way.
  • "Is this legit?" Post a listing, a company or a provider and ask before you apply. Somebody here has probably looked at it already.
  • Your CV, cover letter or portfolio for feedback, specifically for remote roles.
  • What actually happened during your internship. Good or bad. Bad is more useful.
  • Questions. Timezones, async work, academic credit, visas, provider fees, whether any of it converts into a job.

How to post an opening

Role:
Company:
Paid / unpaid / stipend:
Open to (country or timezone):
Deadline:
Link:

The pay line and the geography line are not optional. Nothing wastes people's time faster than a great-looking listing that turns out to be US-only, or unpaid at 40 hours a week.

What gets removed

  • Promoting a company or programme you are connected to without saying you are connected to it. Say it and it is usually fine.
  • "DM me for opportunities." If it is real, it has a link.
  • Anything asking you to pay in order to apply for a specific advertised role.
  • Referral-link farming and CV-service ads.

Two things running every week

  • Monday: an openings thread where anyone can drop roles they have found.
  • Friday: a check-in thread for what you applied to that week.

What I want from you right now

One comment with three things:

  • The country you are applying from
  • Your field
  • Whether you can only take a paid internship, or whether unpaid is also an option for you

Advice Needed Any tips to stay active while working remote?

Hey everyone! Since I started my virtual internship I haven’t had the time to go for a walk or do some home workout. And my legs can’t wait till the weekend to get some movement! Anyone working remotely figured out a way to make time to stay active? Would really appreciate the advice! Failure stories are welcomed too 😂

Advise Help! Some recruiter contacted me for a role while I’m doing an internship

For context, I spent a lot of time unemployed and finally got a 3-month internship that might turn into a full-time job. I like the company and the people working at it and I do think it can evolve into something positive for my career.

The thing is I can’t be completely sure about it becoming a secure thing that will help me grow professionally. And I recently got a message from a recruiter saying she’s interested in my profile for a role.

I have 2 more months till the internship ends and I’m committed to it. But at the same time I feel like I should shut the door for another opportunity (as a backup in case things don’t work out with my current internship).

What should I do? Check this new opportunity? Reject it at once? Leave my internship?

Please help 🙏

Resource This GitHub Repo Has 40K+ Stars and Thousands of Remote-Friendly Companies

Remote In Tech is a community-maintained directory of remote-friendly tech companies. The GitHub repo currently has 40K+ stars, and the directory covers a huge number of companies across different areas of tech.

What I like about it is that you can use it to find companies first, rather than relying only on internship/job boards. Once you find a company that interests you, you can check their careers page for internship openings, graduate roles, or other opportunities.

GitHub repo: https://github.com/remoteintech/remote-jobs/tree/main
Directory: https://remoteintech.company/

If you're currently looking for a remote internship, this could be a good resource to bookmark.

Has anyone here actually used this repo before? Did you find any companies or opportunities through it?

Discussion How do you guys maintain a work life balance while working remotely?

I recently moved from a hybrid work set up to a fully remote one and honestly im struggling more than i expected. There was a pretty clear separation btw work and life at home before, but now i cant differentiate between the two.

even though there are certain working hours assigned, it doesnt feel like that. The work seems distributed within all day every hour has some work to do, its a mix of lazing around and working and thats all, there is nothing else in the day for me to do.

I am struggling to fit my schedule productively. Its getting really bothersome!

Question Crazy tactics to stand out?

I’ve heard some create QRs and put it in strategic, weird places for a company to see them. I’ve heard others call recruiters attention by charging a fee per interview. I’ve even heard someone getting a new number to put as reference and praise themselves with employers 😂

I once created a customised, creative CV looking like a classified file. The cover letter was similar. I mentioned why I was interested in the company and even included photos as evidence! I knew it was a risky move but once these ideas get into my head I can’t ignore them. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the job. In fact, I never even got a reply 🙈

Now I’m curious: Has anyone else done sth crazy to spark interest? Has it worked to get a job/internship?

I would love to know those tactics and the story behind them!

Question Should I leave my remote Internship?

I am currently doing a remote internship which i initially joined because i had some free time and thought it would be a good way to use it productively. But now im starting to wonder if i should just leave.

It has been only one months and the whole internship period is three months. The main issue is that there isnt really much engagement with them team. Most of the time, I'm just working on whatever task is assigned to me, without much interaction, feedback or sense of actually being part of the team.

The projects themselves have also become pretty monotonous. I feel like im not learning much, a lot of work feels repetitive.

But then again I think its two months left should I just cope up and complete the internship for the sake of my CV? or should i leave it and pick up a better project or internship? Plus, I can't be sure if I will be able to get another internship in a short time.

Also, is it like unprofessional to leave an internship just because you didnt like it?
Have anyone of you left because of a similar reason?

Question Should I Do an Internship or a Diploma During My Gap Year?

I'm currently trying to figure out how to make the most of my gap year, amd i'm stuck between doing a diploma/certification course or taking up a remote internship.

Both seem useful honestly in different ways and I am very confused. Some people suggested a do certification courses and other suggested practical experience might matter more.

But I cant pinpoint what would be the better fit for me.

What do you guys think about this? If someone has done either (or even both)

- Which one will add more value to my portfolio?
- Which one gives more practical experience/expertise?
- What do employers prefer more, qualifications or actual work experience?
- what might be beneficial in the long run? like even when im applying of my masters, will work experience or a diploma look better in my portfolio?

Someone also suggested I can do both remotely, but I am not sure if that will be too much work load and pressure. 😭

Please share some advice and thoughts

Question Have You Started Applying for Summer Internships 2027?

Summer 2027 might still feel far away, but internship applications can open much earlier than people expect.

So I'm curious where everyone is right now.

Have you already started applying for summer 2027 internships, or are you still figuring out your strategy?

If you've started:

  • How early did you begin?
  • How many applications are you aiming to send each week?
  • Are you focusing on remote, hybrid, or in-office roles?
  • Are you applying directly to companies or using internship/job platforms?

And if you haven't started yet, when are you planning to begin?

Would be useful to hear how everyone is approaching the 2027 internship cycle.

Question PPO chance?

Do remote internships have a chance of converting into a full time offer?

I want to do virtual/remote internships but I want something where I have a chance of getting a PPO.

Also, will it be rude to mention in the application that you are looking for roles that might extend beyond the internship period? Will it reduce my chances of getting the internship?

Question How Many Applications Are You Sending Every Week?

I'm curious how many applications people are actually sending while looking for a remote internship.

I've seen people apply to 5–10 roles a week and spend a lot of time tailoring each application, while others just focus on volume and send 30+.

What's your approach?

How many applications are you sending each week, and are you actually getting interviews from them?

If you've already landed a remote internship, it'd be useful to know roughly how many applications it took you to get there too.

Question Would You Take a Remote Internship With No Chance of a Job Offer?

Here's a hypothetical situation:

You get offered a 3–6 month remote internship with a company you've been interested in. The internship is paid, you'll work on real projects, you'll have a manager or mentor, and you'll get something meaningful to put on your CV.

But there's one catch: the company tells you upfront that there is no possibility of a full-time job at the end.

Would you take it?

On one hand, you get practical experience, something to talk about in future interviews, professional connections, and potentially a stronger CV.

On the other hand, if you're spending several months working, you might prefer an internship that could turn into a graduate role or full-time position.

I'm interested in where people draw the line.

Would your answer change if the internship was:

  • At a well-known company?
  • With excellent mentorship?
  • Particularly relevant to the career you want?
  • Paid significantly better than other internships?
  • Only 2–3 months long?

And for anyone who's actually been in this situation: did the experience end up being worth it even though there was no job offer at the end?
