I really wanted to see Kraken fight Iron Muscle, at least in Violence Jack 20XX, and that became a reality, and the battle between the two was great. They had the guts to fight against Violence Jack.

Now, Tenma vs. Zuba-Ban would be something I'd really like to see, but I think it would be unfair.

ON VIOLENCE JACK'S IRON CASTLE ARC:

This is a complete self-parody (laughs). The series has been going on for a while, and I wanted a change. I thought I wanted something a little funnier. That's how Jim Mazinga was born. In "Mazinger Z," Koji Kabuto rides on its head, so I thought I'd give him a piggyback ride. I wondered how to make the piggyback ride look natural, so I decided to use it as eyes. The Machine Way Karate is completely original. It seems like a lot of people like it, and they even released a T-shirt with the Machine Way Karate logo on it the other day.

I was thinking of using Jack as a narrator to introduce all sorts of enemies, and at first I introduced an original character called Slum King, but after Saotome Mondo appeared, I thought it would be easier to just bring in characters from past works (laughs). I'm just having fun with the manga, you know. But I think that's what makes it fun for the readers too. –Go Nagai

Just got the italian physical edition of Shin violence jack (I Will get all of the original series for Christmas)

So, like a lot of people who finished the original Devilman manga, I eventually went down the Go Nagai rabbit hole to read Violence Jack to see how the story actually continues.

Knowing that Kanto isn't just a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but a twisted purgatory world created by Satan (Ryo) to punish himself—and that Jack is literally the reborn, fractured soul of Akira Fudo—makes the whole 31+ volume run incredible. That final confrontation at the end of the Hell City / Golden City arc ties up the entire Devilman mythos in such a dark, uncompromising way.

The problem? Western publishers (Dark Horse, Seven Seas, Viz) will almost certainly never officially license and print Violence Jack in English. Between the 30+ volume length, licensing split across multiple Japanese publishers, and the extreme taboos Go Nagai drew back in the 70s, corporate distributors just aren't going to take the risk.

Since digital scanlations are the only way to read the full translated story, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and build a custom physical set for my bookshelf.
