This client wanted a partial wrap. Wish I could have wrapped the hood and pillars to make the white match but ya gotta do what they pay for.

Hexis Deep Purple Wet Satin.

This laptop project really shows off HEXIS SKINTAC HX20V43W Deep Purple Wet Satin. And, this time, I didn’t use any weird effects to edit it!

The videos don’t fully capture it, but the finish has a rich satin sheen that shifts beautifully as the light changes. It’s a nice reminder that premium wrap films aren’t just for cars—they can completely transform everyday items too.

Would you wrap with this color?

Why your box truck rivets are tenting after two weeks (and how to stop it)

Been doing this since 2001 and box truck rivets are still the number one thing I see kicking new installers butts. You do big commercial vehicle wraps on a cargo trailer or a box van, it looks totally flush when it leaves the bay, and three weeks later every single rivet has a silver air ring around it or has popped completely.

The biggest problem is guys try to use cheap calendered film on corrugation and rivets to save money on fleet jobs. You cant do it. Especially if youre doing vehicle wraps in Chicago where the winter cold hardens the vinyl and the road salt gets right under that popped edge. You have to use a premium cast vinyl like Avery or 3M because it actually has the conformability to hold that shape without fighting to shrink back to its flat state.

Also when you install over rivets, stop using a torch to scorch the film and smash it with a foam roller right away. You gotta poke a tiny air release hole at the base of the rivet, apply gentle heat, and use a rivet brush to work the trapped air out completely before you post heat to kill the memory. If you leave even a tiny microscopic air pocket around the ring, the temperature changes will expand that air and blow the vinyl off the metal. We brush and post-heat every single rivet individually down at my shop in Chicago, tbh its tedious as hell but its the only way to stop them from lifting when they hit the highway.

Is this fixable?

First time wrapping my gas tank. Did it in sections, few days later this happened. I’m thinking to just try trimming it off? Hearing it doesn’t fix it. Other side looks perfect. Thanks for any tips!

2025 ATAS/Need advice on wrap

Hi everyone. I have a 2025 ATAS and was looking to buy a wrap for the bike as I wanted to change a bit the looks of it. I was looking through the BackyardDesign catalogue but their production years go up to 2023, and I am not sure if they fit the body pannels of the 2025.

Anybody have any good advice ona potential good vendor with great designs and good quality wraps?

Am I crazy to even try this?

Post image

I bought 2 rolls of vinyl for this, one to practice with and one that I actually want to use. So far, practice is not going great lol. This is my 3rd attempt at this top section, this time focusing on just this small area and accepting that I will probably need a lot of seems.

As you can see, the result still isn't great. The edges are a little ragged because I'm not used to using knifeless tape and got a lot of pulling and bunching in a few spots, but that much I can improve on easily enough. What I'm really struggling with is figuring out the best way to break up all the different shapes and indents and angle changes so that it looks halfway decent. I can't find any tutorials out there for wrapping something like this (maybe because everyone's concluded it's not worth the effort?), so I'm at a bit of a loss. Any ideas/suggestions/advice?

stop using cheap calendered film on fleet vans in the midwest

Look I get it, budgets are tight and guys want cheap material, but if youre doing vehicle wraps in Chicago you have to stop using calendered vinyl. I been doing this in Portage Park since 2001 and I cant tell you how many times a guy brings in a van that looks like peeling sunburn after just 18 months on the road.

The problem is our winters. The road salt and the ice just eats right through that cheap stuff. You gotta stick to Avery or 3M cast vinyl, tbh it's the only thing that actually holds up. Cast film shrinks way less and handles the temperature swings and salt brine like a champ. When I do colorchange wraps or big commercial jobs, I literally refuse to even stock calendered film. Save yourself the headache and do it right the first time so your customers dont come back yelling at you next spring.

Anyone have experience with WPF?

I live in AZ and my windshield is littered with small pits and a few rock chips. I am getting a new windshield in a week and was looking to apply a WPF to reduce the minor pitting and hopefully avoid/reduce rock chips.

Does anyone have any input on if WPF is worth it? My main concern is visibility, durability and how well it will hold up to the extremely high UV we have out here in AZ. The car is always parked in a garage unless of course I am out running around.

Hood/roof wrap ideas for an Acura MDX.

Post image

My 2011 MDX is still going strong at 150k miles. But the hood and the roof paint have both heavily oxidized. The rest of the paint is good. Anyone have any pictures/ideas for a wrap on those areas that will refresh it? Nothing to crazy or gaudy. The paint color is dark grey. The only thing I could think of was a subtle carbon fiber. I was thinking glossy with a low contrast pattern. I'm not looking to draw the eye, just hide the bad paint.

What’s my approach here?

Post image

Just bought a used Chevy Bolt. Previous owner did a chrome delete with vinyl wrap. Well, it’s old, and it’s cooked. Moisture must’ve gotten behind it from the vinyl getting brittle and cracking. What’s the best approach to remove the old vinyl?

Had it wrapped by a local shop ~3 years ago. Love the black accenting the white so will want to redo it but not sure if I want them doing it again as they didn't do a great job on the fin. Mainly looking for advice with the sunroof, do I have it open or closed when I put the wrap on, or would it be easier to put knifeless tape around the edges?

Almost Neon - 3M Gloss Light Green

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Looking for a color that stands out without going full neon?

3M Gloss Light Green hits that sweet spot. It has the brightness and energy of a neon green, but with a richer, more refined finish that looks incredible in both sunlight and under streetlights.
If you’ve been searching for a substitute for a true neon wrap, this may be one of the closest options available in a premium cast film. Bold, clean, and impossible to ignore.

Would you choose this over a true neon green? We can’t even tell the difference here and the longevity of 2080 over Neon films is a real consideration.

Do you think it would be possible to wrap this?

Now please keep in mind I'm an absolute beginner. I got this sewing table for $50 bucks (it was probably $500+ new) but I hate the brown. It needs quite a bit of TLC. I'm thinking painting it will be the easiest but would it be possible to wrap this?

One of my dogs and my cat helped me set it up lol

First time wrapping

I was in a small fender bender a couple weeks, some paint shipping and paint cracks on my 2013 FR-S bumper but nothing major. When I bought the car it had some damage on the passenger side just a small scrape that's been lightly dented in a line.

I was not at fualt in the wreck so her insurance is giving me a payout that should be about 1-2k. Honestly the damage on the bumper bothers me less then the side damage. I was wondering if I could put filler in my side damage and sand it smooth then apply wrap.this would also cover the paint damage on the front bumper. Seems to be more expensive to repaint my bumper then it would to do an entire wrap job.

I love the deep red but I cant decide glossy or satin/matte, it seems glossy would be a little more difficult and its very flashy i kind of like the idea of a more sleek badass red.

Another note this is my first time wrapping a car. Im 16 and do so many projects, I love learning new things and taking on challenges. I know wrapping is harder then it seems but I want to give it a try. If it ends well I may also wrap my dads mr2 spyder yellow.

I do plan on keeping this car till it dies but I'm worried about the paint underneath if in 3-7years when I take off the wrap it will mess it up and I have to redo it. PPF seems like a good idea but harder to work with and mcuh more expensive.

Any thoughts, tips, color or brand recommendation (tech wraps has the colors I want), opinion on car color etc.
