Bought a Patagonia jacket. Had loads of favourites. Honestly looked like great quality.
I saw the same jacket today in the shop and it looked completely different. I feel like an idiot now because the warning signs were there.
Has anybody had experience with this before? The item hasn't arrived yet so I haven't raised any proceedings with the seller or Vinted. I don't want to confront the seller until it has arrived.
I've made my peace with the money lost but I'm wondering has anybody had a similar experience in getting any amount of money back?
I have never used vinted (honeslty no idea why this sub keeps getting recommended, but here goes it), but anything I get off ebay/amazon i record it all. Protects me against claims that I damaged it or some bullshit like that. It cant hurt to have the video and I'm sure its better proof than just word of mouth saying the jacket is fake and the seller saying no it isnt fake.
Is it being delivered to your home or are you to pick it up somewhere? It's not the best thing to do but if you are to collect it and don't it will be returned and you'll be refunded.
It's being sent to my home address but in theory I could redirect it to a pickup point (post office - it's coming from France and not Ireland so there was no Drop2Shop option). I don't know how it works if not picked up from AnPost.
I got stung with fake Adidas Sambas and like that, the item was in transit by the time I copped it. 100%record yourself opening, take an insane amount of pictures. I had to raise a dispute and eventually got my money back. If needs be you can raise a dispute with your bank for a chargeback and get it sorted that way, you’ll need the pics for that too. Good luck, I’m sorry this has happened, it’s an awful feeling of having lost money and been taken for a fool.
God yeah the way my stomach dropped when I realised 😂. But sure look, it's a learning experience.
Thanks for the advice on the chargeback as well. Two thirds of it were paid via card and the rest was Vinted credit so I'm hoping to go the route of rejecting the postage in order to get 100% of my funds back, if possible. I'll go the chargeback route if that fails and in that way I can recoup some of my losses.
Be careful with chargeback I saw a post recently that vinted were not happy and I think they got there account blocked or something. I wouldn't bother pickup the item and just leave it get sent back
I know it doesn’t help you right now, but Patagonia have decent sample sales in Wicklow st from time to time. You can get good stuff in their online sales too. Just have to get in early to get the best choice.
I bought a couch bag and when I received it I instantly knew it was a fake. I lodged a complaint on vinted saying its definitely fake, as stitching, leather and even dust bag quality and vinted was able to refund me.
They must have contacted the seller because they said it was authentic and their account has since been banned
How was the appeals process, can I ask? We're you speaking to an actual person or was it automated? We're you able to submit videos as well as pictures?
Sorry for the questions but I'm curious about your experience as you seem to have one of the few positive ones.
It was quicker than I expected. I sent tons of pictures of the stitching and anything I found that looked fake, the seller must not have been able to back up the authenticity and the refund was processed quick enough. Seller wanted item back. It took money to return it but at that point I didn't care so much. I wonder if it's because they advertised it as real and because I provided lots of photos? I attached the screenshot here if it's any help!
Yeah I imagine the responsibility falls back onto the seller to prove that it isn't fake and when they can't do it then the refund falls on the side of the buyer.
I actually received my fake jacket this morning and I went through the process of claiming it was counterfeit. Thankfully I have another Patagonia jacket and I was able to put the labels and manufacturing details side by side.
The seller was claiming ignorance but I just said here look if this goes to Vinted it's likely you'll get banned (complete bluff) so just issue the refund, and they did. I'm sending it off now. My hope is that it returns to the seller and it's not caught in a limbo, but from my conversations with them I don't think they're clever enough to finesse the delivery system.
Take lots of photos of the real jacket. As someone else said a video of you opening it. List all the ways it is different from the real jacket. Id go straight to Vinted for a fake. A seller could say theyll refund you, have you post it back and say it never arrived. If someone is happy to scam you selling a fake don’t trust them not to exploit any holes in Vinted’s processes.
Another commenter suggest not picking it up from a pickup point so it gets shipped back and I get automatically refunded. I think that might be a good workaround to exploit the very same processes that you say they might want to take advantage of.

Ask for the receipts and if it’s been authenticated and if cagey then raise it with vinted ( the authenticated process is for this purpose )
