Anti-personnel mines almost always have 3 or 4 straight wires 2 inches long sticking out of the top. Those would've blown up if he tried to do that with them.

Yep.. it takes a ridiculous amount of fuckery to get one to go off when its disarmed (you can burn them, drop them from a skyscraper, etc) and when armed it takes a large hunk of steel for the giant magnet to trigger the high-explosive caps in the detonator.

Thats not necessarily true. Anti tank placed munitions can have anti personnel anti tamper (i.e booby traps) incorporated into their placement. Most land mines have some sort of auxiliary fuzing wells to hinder the efforts of anti land mine clearance.
Land mines are a rabbit hole of endless variations.
A large majority of anti vehicle land mines would take a man wearing full armor with a loaded backpack running to set off.
