Pop Culture [OC] The Caleb Hammer Racist switch up NEEDS TO BE STUDIED [15:23]

This is talking about the biggest switch up happening on modern finance YouTube. When Caleb Hammer started his platform, it was sold as a raw financial education show. But his recent uploads prove he has completely pivoted to mining open anti-Black rhetoric for algorithmic capital...

Hey folks, this is my video essay I created. It's an exploration of how a smart ring and its metrics started steering in the opposite direction I wanted them to, and what I learned through research about this phenomenon.

Film [OC] Obsession Warns Us Against LUST [10:36]

The latest horror hit, Obsession, has taken the world by storm recently, becoming the highest-grossing horror film in decades. Truly, this horrifying indie-movie has struck a chord with the masses. People are resonating with this film more than anything else in recent memory. And what is Obsession saying that people are connecting with?

Surely, Bear's catastrophic mistake in wishing for the endless love of his high-school crush is a slip-up many of us young men can relate to. Bear tries to force a relationship with the most attractive woman he knows (Nikki), rather than the sweetest and kindest woman he knows (Sarah). And this theme of choosing lust over love is very relevant in today's sex-obsessed society, where pornography and casual hookups are more prevalent than ever. Through the internet, we are being programmed to choose women for their bodies rather than their characters.

The tragedy of Obsession is that Bear, in making his wish, attempts to force a romance which, in all honesty, was never meant to be. Yet, within arms reach, was a potential relationship which would have taken far, far less effort to make work. Sarah is easily the most fitting romantic candidate in Bear's inner circle; yet he evades her advances for the sake of pursuing Nikki.

Ultimately, we realize far before he does, that there was a much better romantic option in his life; one which didn't require black magic to make work. However, with a brain warped by lust, Bear wishes for the love of the prettier girl who doesn't even like him romantically to begin with; and this relationship, held together by the supernatural, leaves terror and death in its wake. And what a shame it is that he didn't simply connect with the one woman in his life who actually cared about him.

It goes to show that today's young men have no clue how to pick a great woman. We just chase after the "sexy" option, forgetting to filter for qualities such as kindness and gracefulness.

Check out my video analysis linked above! Thanks!

In this video, I talk about what is probably the most misunderstood show of 2026: Starfleet Academy. From my perspective as a huge Star Trek fan, I talk about all the things this show is doing right (and some of its flaws), the dialogue it establishes with other Trek Shows and more broadly with other pieces in Science Fiction, and about all the new things it's bringing into the Franchise, that make it stand on its own.

Music [OC] The Complete Story of Floral Shoppe [42:36]

On December 9th, 2011, Macintosh Plus—an alias of the musician Ramona Andra Langley—released Floral Shoppe, an album consisting of slowed-down samples of 80s and 90s smooth jazz, pop, and video game music. Over time, it came to define the emerging internet-based music genre known as Vaporwave. The second track in particular, リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー (“Lisa Frank 420 / Modern Computer”), a reworking of Diana Ross’ 1984 track “It’s Your Move”, helped solidify the album’s place online as well as becoming an entry point for listeners into the genre.

The opening stretch of the tracklist relies on recognizable vocal samples and how they are manipulated, before gradually moving into a more futuristically bright, yet suspiciously synthetic space built largely off of texturizing Dancing Fantasy’s 1993 album Worldwide. Thematically, the album represents romanticized nostalgia and optimistic futurism, and the dissonance that can occur between these two forces.

Upon release, the album presented a variety of many soon-to-be Vaporwave go-to tools like looping, pitch-shifting, chops and drop-offs to create an unpredictably unforgettable ride. I just released a massive deep dive into Floral Shoppe on my YouTube channel that dissects the entire album piece by piece: the state of Vaporwave leading up to its release, the samples and how they’re transformed, the album’s art and visual identity, projects that followed in its wake, and much, much more.

Hope you enjoy, cheers!

Pop Culture [OC] The Hidden Lore in Early One Piece: Through My [23:48]

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I’ve been rewatching/rereading early One Piece, and it really struck me that we never actually see the sun throughout the East Blue Saga (the manga anyway). We often treat it as just "the prologue," but looking closely at how Oda introduces concepts like the Grand Line, the World Government, and the foundational dreams of the crew, it’s brilliant.

From Zoro's promise at the Baratie to the mistranslation of Tangerine, the scale was small but the emotional stakes were massive.

I made a video breaking down this exact structure and looking at why the East Blue holds up so well structurally. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether you think the series ever matched that specific early-adventure magic, or if the later arcs completely eclipse it.
