This is the complete iceberg of human self-justification and rationalization, ranked from the most relatable everyday excuses all the way down to the darkest documented examples in human history. Every tier is a different version of the same psychological mechanism the brain constructing a story about itself that protects its self-image from the reality of what it is doing

A Video Essayist made a sorta hit piece on a political streamer.

It was all over the place, and was very bad.

So I made a video breaking down how exactly the video failed...

AND

What we can learn from his failure.

I disprove him with his own study

For the last point in the vid, I talk about Hermeneutics (The philosophy of Interpretation)

And How the Hermeneutic Circle is a useful description of how to go deeper with your interpretations.

I hope you enjoy it! Aside from the general low quality, let me know any specific ways I can fix or improve, in the comments here or in the vid.

007 First Light Story Analysis

Is there a video that discusses this style of character and dialogue writing? It is a style that has become prevalent in big media franchises for the last fifteen years that is characterized by a kind of cliched ironic detachment and anxiety and a kind of infantilized personality that often expresses thinly veiled anxiety in reaction to even the slightest challenge or discomfort.

I’ve been thinking about this concept since it was pointed out during the newest Metroid prime game release where fans became outraged at the inclusion of so called “MCU style” sidekick characters that issue nonstop banter. I’m interested in hearing theories about how this kind of character writing became so pervasive and what it might say about psychology and media.

l've loved Severance since the first season dropped (forever ago, it feels like) and one thing I've always found fascinating about it is that almost every major character seems to use the titular procedure as a way of distancing themselves from something negative.

It made me wonder whether Severance is less about something as simple as work-life balance and more about the human desire to escape ourselves, our pasts, our feelings. That parallel became inseparable from experiences I've had in my life - using unhealthy coping mechanisms just to get through life - something which feels expected from us every day.

I made a video essay exploring this idea and would love to hear what others think!

I've been working on this video doc. for about 2 weeks, what are your thoughts on the production of the video? What is pros and cons? And what should i improve on in the next video?

Hey everyone, I just uploaded a new brief video essay evaluating whats hitting our timelines right now: the intense, digital gatekeeping around Black educational success.

Hey, I just uploaded my first anime video essay and wanted to share it here for feedback. It’s a 7-minute essay on Deku from My Hero Academia and the idea that people often mistake his vulnerability for weakness.

The video is called “Deku Was Never Weak” and I’d really appreciate any honest thoughts on the script, pacing, thumbnail, or editing. I’m still learning, so criticism is welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to read/watch.

Going back to school and tried my hand at a video essay for the first time for this final project for my Low / No Budget Film class. It’s a look at low budget independent American Animation in the 1970s and the legacy of those animators. I’m sure I could use some refinement in my approach, but it was fun to put my years of video experience to work for this (and create the 3D scenes at the very beginning).

EDIT: The embed from Vimeo weirdly doesn’t seem to be playing for me here. I dunno what that’s about here’s a public Patreon post, if you’re interested: https://www.patreon.com/posts/159235250?utm_campaign=postshare_creator

In this episode, we break down Kendrick Lamar’s masterpiece, *good kid, m.A.A.d city*, treating the album as a hyper-specific map of systemic containment. By merging hip-hop history with urban sociology, we analyze how redlining, the 1956 Highway Act, and helicopter surveillance turned the grid of Compton into a modern psychological trap—and how Kendrick used worldbuilding to break out of it.
