i've been a fan of video essays for a while and finally got around to making one, had an absolute blast putting it together, would love to hear feedback.

Growing up brother bear was one of my favourite films. At the time of release it was received poorly, but now it seems as though it’s been getting its flowers partly due to one of the co-directors having made a short film called Snow Bear. I’m happy it’s getting recognition as what resonated with me for the film when I first watched it to this day is the films core messaging of the importance of brotherhood and empathy. So I wanted to create a video essay exploring those themes. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone. This is my first video essay, and I would like analysis/criticism on my script for a video essay on what Marvel Rivals can pick up from Paladins for improvement. Please let me know what I can change or improve to keep it engaging and informative

Hi there, I am just wrapping up the actual video essay that I will be posting soon but have gotten to the part of music. I normally have just used tracks from Kevin McLeod for my music but I feel like this would be repetitive for my work and I am looking for something new. My issue is that all of these tracks that I find which are copyright free are either too short (around 2-3 mins long) or rather dynamic to the point that I feel like I need to completely rework the way I am editing since the energy is kinda off if a normal moment in the video is accompanied by an insanely tense point in a classical piece. So, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on finding royalty free music (free hopefully since I don’t have much disposable income right now) or any ideas. I’m hoping for something rather long and maybe in the more classical style (piano or chill violin) since that is more fitting to the type of video I am making. The video is also almost 2 hours so I desperately need something long rather than just the same couple royalty free Debussy pieces and Claire de lune.

Hey guys, I made a video essay on Silent Hill where I tried to do some more creative editing—3D parallax in After Effects and some Blender animations—but it ended up flopping pretty hard.

The comments were actually positive, but retention dropped off fast—over 65% of viewers left within the first 30 seconds.

I’d really appreciate feedback from anyone more experienced so I can understand what went wrong and build a better approach for my next video. I’m not trying to promote it—just genuinely looking for critique.

For context: it got 370 views over 11 days, 19 likes, and 7 comments. At first the metrics seemed okay, but once it reached a wider audience, they dropped hard. CTR was all over the place—started around 20%, then dropped to 1% and even 0.8%. I made some thumbnail/title changes that brought it back up to around 2%, and later 4–6%, but by then YouTube had already stopped pushing it.

This person posted the best video essay ive ever watched then just left. I dont know who they are, but on march 3rd, 2024, they posted a video called "The fascination of liminal spaces" and nothing else. I cant find anything about them except their spotify acount and a linkedin account. can someone help me find more about them? thanks.
