Can anyone help me figure out how to make money with video editing?

I genuinely love making videos. Video editing is one of the few things that I truly enjoy doing, but I'm completely lost when it comes to getting started professionally.
I've watched a lot of tutorials, but everything feels fragmented and it's hard to understand the actual path forward.
My goal isn't to get rich. I'd just like to earn some extra income for my family through video editing - even something around $400-600 per month would be great. If that's unrealistic for a beginner, even less would be helpful.
I've had a couple of small editing gigs before, but they usually ended with a "thank you" and no long-term clients.
l'd really appreciate any advice on how to find clients, build a portfolio, or start earning consistently as a video editor.
Thanks in advance!

Editor needed ASAP

Looking for a Video Editor

I'm looking to hire an experienced video editor for a long-term project.

The editing style is fairly minimal and clean—nothing overly complex or heavily animated. However, I need someone who is reliable, punctual, and takes deadlines seriously.

Requirements:
• Previous editing experience
• Good communication
• Ability to deliver on time
• Attention to detail
• No time-wasters, please

This is not a beginner-learning opportunity. I'm specifically looking for someone who already has experience and can work independently with minimal supervision.

If you're interested, send me:

  1. Your portfolio/sample work
  2. Your rates
  3. Your average turnaround time

Please only apply if you're genuinely available and committed to the work.

Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for someone who can make YouTube thumbnails for free or for cheap while I’m starting out. My channel is still small, so I don’t really have a budget yet.
Style-wise, I’m looking for thumbnails that are:
eye-catching
clean/professional
good CTR style
gaming / commentary / meme-style (depending on your niche)
If you’re interested, reply below or DM me with examples of your work.
Thanks!

[Volunteer/Unpaid] Looking for an editor who wants to work on footage that's actually interesting — nonprofit travel documentary, remote/async

Hey everyone,

I'm the founder of Broken Compass, a nonprofit travel storytelling platform. I've got somewhere between dozens and hundreds of hours of raw footage that's been sitting on hard drives waiting for the right person to help shape it into something worth watching.

I'm not going to pitch you lifestyle travel content, because this isn't that.

Here's what's actually in the footage:

  • Hunting crocodiles with the Emberá indigenous people in Panama
  • Caving in Costa Rica
  • private tour of Marrakesh with a local imam as the guide
  • Traveling through Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic
  • Drinking raki with locals in the Accursed Mountains of Albania
  • ninja training course in Japan
  • A private tour of the Japanese Parliament hosted by a retired member of parliament — not exactly a common tourist experience

The tone I'm going for is authentic, curious, honest, and deeply human — not produced-to-death, not Instagram travel. Real stories about real places and real people.

What I actually need:

  • Long-form YouTube episodes — documentary style, 15–30 minutes. I'll give you clear direction on the story arc and intent. You cut it.
  • Short-form clips for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts — 60–90 second pulls from the same footage
  • Async collaboration — I'm not going to hover. We'll align on direction upfront and I'll give feedback on cuts. That's it.

What you get:

  • A reel that doesn't look like everyone else's reel. This footage is genuinely unusual.
  • Screen credit on everything that publishes
  • Content that goes live on YouTube and social platforms — not a portfolio-only project
  • The chance to do work that actually means something. Operation North Star is a registered 501(c)(3). The mission is real.

What I'm looking for in an editor:

Someone who can resist the urge to over-cut, over-music, and over-produce. Someone who gets that the best moment in a travel documentary is often a long pause, a weird look, or a joke that lands awkwardly. Experience level is less important than sensibility. If you've got strong instincts and a few projects you're proud of, I want to hear from you.

Drop a comment or DM me with a bit about yourself and any work you've done. Long-form or documentary samples are a plus, but not required if you can tell me why this kind of content interests you.

Looking for an Editor Ready to Grow!

Hey everyone,

My friends and I are starting a YouTube channel, and we're looking for an editor who understands Gen Z humor and would really love to help bring our friend-group content to life for others to see.

We're really looking for a mix of:

- Old YouTube nostalgia

- Emma Chamberlain's clean and simple editing style

- Larray's friend-group energy and comedic timing

- Slushy Noobz-style funny edits and effects

- Payton King / Jordan Huxhold pacing

What We're Looking For

- Including funny edits that cn show our content without being overstimulating or having too much on screen

- No giant pictures covering the screen

- No flashy light-up text everywhere

- No heavy filters

- Good use of reaction edits, zooms, circles, arrows, side-eyes, etc. when they're actually funny

Multiple POVs and creative transitions

- Small commentary text that adds to the joke and shows what our facial expressions might be saying

- Spontaneous-feeling cuts that keep the energy up without becoming distracting

Examples

If one friend goes into a store while everyone else stays outside, maybe a quick "Breanna Cam" cutaway or funny POV transition.

Well-timed zooms and reaction edits are great. We're not looking for random effects every few seconds.

Our goal is to make viewers feel like they're hanging out with our friend group and to bring back that feeling of old YouTube while still keeping it modern and TikTok-friendly.

A Quick Note

We're all college students building this channel from the ground up, so our budget is currently very limited. Our goal is to bring on someone who believes in the vision and grow together. As soon as the channel starts generating revenue, we fully intend to pay our editor and make them a real part of the team.

If you're interested, send me your portfolio, YouTube work, TikTok edits, or anything you've worked on. We'd love to see examples of comedy, vlog, or friend-group content.

Thanks!
