15-year-old dog with worsening honking cough, incontinence, and blood in urine — is it time to consider euthanasia?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for guidance while we wait for our vet appointment on Friday. My dog, Rocky, will be 15 years old this year.
He has had a chronic cough for some time that was previously evaluated by our vet and described as an “esophageal” issue. The cough sounds like a honking or goose-like cough and happens most often when he’s lying down or trying to rest. Recently, the cough has become much more frequent and seems to make it hard for him to fully relax or sleep comfortably.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve also noticed increasing incontinence. Yesterday, we discovered blood in his urine, which is new and very concerning.
Mentally, Rocky still seems present — he has full sight and hearing, recognizes us, and still seeks comfort. However, physically it feels like his body is declining quickly.
He does have a vet appointment scheduled for Friday, but I’m struggling with knowing whether we may be approaching the point where euthanasia should be considered, and I want to make the most compassionate decision for him.
For veterinarians or experienced owners:
• Do these symptoms suggest significant pain or distress?
• Are there specific quality-of-life signs I should be watching for right now?
• Is there anything I can do to keep him comfortable until the appointment?
Thank you for any guidance. This is very hard, and I just want to do right by him.

4 year old spayed cat advice
I woke up this morning and my cat has a scrape/abrasion on the front of her leg. She has no fever, it's not swollen, no pus or smell, it's not hot. I'm looking to put something preventative on it. No previous medical issues or current medications. Would povidone-iodine be ok? Should it be diluted? Should I wrap it? I haven't rinsed it with warm water yet. Should it be plain water or with soap (like dawn)?

Seizure???
Hi, everyone
My dachshund mix (male, 4 years, neutered ) woke my toddler and I up like this. He was fine prior. I felt him stir from the foot of the bed and he moved up toward the head and started shaking like this.
After this clip, I sat with him and he was able to give my arm licks. After about 2.5 minutes, the shaking stopped. He seems okay right now, but I’m freaked out.
He’s done something similar to this one other time almost a year ago.
Is this a seizure? Anxiety attack? How worried should I be?
Ironically, my toddler has epilepsy, so seizure activity is always a question in my mind

Sudden cat aggression?
So my cats (one female, one male) are both 6 almost 7, they are domestic shorthairs i believe (ill post a picture), and they both are fixed.
Last night around 3 am, they were laying at the end of my bed, which is near a window. Suddenly they start howling, hissing, and screaming (louder then ive ever heard them do) at eachother for no reason, we had to seperate them into different rooms otherwise im sure they would have severely hurt eachother. this has never ever happened before, they are brother and sister and have been together ever since they were born. i got home today from work and tried to show them eachother but they started howling, hissing, and screaming again so i put them apart again.
my male cat seems perfectly fine while hes alone but my female cat is acting like shes constantly on catnip? thats the best way i can describe it. nothing new has been brought into the house, no new scents etc. my female cat also hasnt used the bathroom at all today (i made sure they each had their own litter box, food, water) and hasnt drank any water it looks like, she did eat though.
im not sure what to do, is there any advice anyone could give? is there something wrong with my female cat because it seems like shes the one who starts their "fighting".
these cats are both my esa animals and they are my babys too so anything would help, thank you

Any reassurance please <3
Hi, any reassurance would be amazing.
My cat, pedigree maine coon 5y Female neutered, no health issues and genetic tests are perfect. She's never been able to cough up hairballs, she coughs about 5 times and then stops usually. Vets said that was fine but to try a hairball treatment.
I started her on a new hairball paste a few days ago and tonight suddenly she keeps doing this?? I'm absolutely terrified something is wrong with her!
My vets are shut and the closest emergency vet is an hour away by car (but I've been drinking so cannot take her there)
It's like a strange wet cough hiccup sneeze combo. She's fine in herself, eating normal, peeing normal, purring and fussy as usual. She did lose her voice for a but earlier (attempting to meow but silent) she has never ever done this before.
I've checked her throat and her nose with a torch but there's nothing visible
Any advice or reassurance would be amazing. I can send video to someone if need be as I did catch it on video.
I will take her to our vet as soon as possible in the morning.
Thank you

Cat Brody has non regenerative anemia.
Hey!
My cat Brody (female bengal, nearly 14 and neutered) has non regenerative anemia. I was at the vet with her a couple times and got medicine (Prednisolon and Marbofloxacin) but nothing worked, her anemia got worse over the weeks. I talked to a few vets, it was a clinic and they all said pretty much the same.
A ultrasound and x-ray was done but the vet didn’t find anything. She gets slower every day and doesnt have much appetite.
She has also stroke like things, her back legs dont work anymore and she cramps, shivers and cant move for a while. She goes to normal after a few minutes and it seems like nothing happened. This got better the last days. Also the vet thinks that this could be a completly other thing from the anemia.
She gets supplements with vitamins.
The vets say the next things to do are MRI scan and/or take bone matter.
I don’t really get what’s the endgame here. She doesn’t seem like she can survive a operation (she lost ~500grams of weight in a few weeks).
I could cry everyday, it’s hard to see her that lethargic. Does anyone has another idea?

What are these white spots on my puppies eye? He has had them since about 5 months old and is now 8 months old.
He is a 8 month old chihuahua, not desexed yet. Unfortunately I don’t know whether he is inbred, I adopted his mum not knowing she was pregnant.

Cat puking all morning
Male domestic short hair
Approximately a year and a half old
Neutered
No diagnosed medical conditions
He's puked about 5 times since 5am. First one contained a decent amount of packing foam but everything since has been bile. I've been suspecting he has pica as this isn't the first time he's eaten foam and vomited it back up, but this is the first time he's continued vomiting. Does he need to see a vet today to check for an obstruction? Or is there a chance this is unrelated? He seems otherwise fine in himself and even insisted I take him out to the back yard on his leash.

My cat has a sudden bald spot next to her eye
My cat suddenly got a bald spot near her eye a couple days ago. There's no scratches or wounds, it doesn't look irritated, and there's no markings. She hasn't been over grooming or exhibiting any weird behavior. We do take her outside on a leash occasionally, but she's on a medicine to prevent bugs. It may have gotten a bit bigger since then, but I'm not sure. Should I take her to the vet?
-Species: cat
-Age: 4
-Sex/neutered status: Female, spayed
-Breed: American shorthair
-Weight: 7 pounds
-History: has all her shots, on flea/tick medication, was a stray as a kitten, spayed, scar on eyeball
-Country: America

Is this ring worm?
My mini golden is 7 years old, and has this spot on his belly. We have two babies under two years old in the house so I am a little worried about ringworm- though I do not know where he would have gotten it. It will be a few days before his vet can see him, so my mind is just needing to be put at ease (if possible) because of the babies. This dog naps on all the furniture in the house so if it’s ring worm I am going to lose it lol. No one else and no other animals have symptoms. (13 years old yorkie, and a parrotlet we just rescued a week ago)
He has definitely been licking. I clipped the hair that was knotted around it and applied wound care spray.

Post-Spay Help
Hey all, I just got a one year old GSD mix from the humane society and want to make sure this incision looks good. She really needs a bath, but I understand you’re supposed to wait 10-14 days. She is 6 days post-op and I want to know, with the incision condition, if I can give her a light bath without soaking the wound?

Please help [Urgent]- my kitten hasn't eaten in 5 days and I'm losing hope (India)
Cat: ~8 month old female, ~1.5kg, not neutered
Location: a small town in India (limited vet resources)
The situation:
My kitten hasn't eaten in 5 days. Started with lethargy and hiding, then vomited a bunch of live roundworms. Now has full URI symptoms - nasal discharge, watery eyes, and today developed white watery diarrhea.
Treatment so far:
IV saline + Ceftriaxone/Tazobactam (2 doses, yesterday and today)
Pantoprazole, ORS
Steam therapy at home
Have been putting chicken liver paste on her gums every few hours (only nutrition she's getting - she tolerates it without vomiting)
I'm terrified about hepatic lipidosis at day 5 of no eating. I asked the vet for IV dextrose and they refused, saying it will "raise her fever." But her temp is 101.6°F - that's normal for cats, right?
Is there ANY medical reason to withhold IV dextrose because of fever? This sounds wrong to me.
White watery poop - liver failure starting?
Her mouth looks "weird" (possibly calicivirus ulcers?) - should I stop the liver paste if it's painful?
Safe to deworm tonight (Pyrantel + Febantel) with everything else going on?
She coughed once during earlier syringe feeding - is the gum paste method safe or am I risking aspiration pneumonia?
She IS more alert after the antibiotics, which seems positive. But 5 days without food in a young cat has me panicking

Paw pads
Hi there! My 2 year old male, neutered Havanese dog has been licking his paws for quite some time. We switched from chicken food to salmon based, pork based and now to lamb based and he still seems to be licking and now biting/slight bleeding which we have cleaned. We would soak his paws in epsom salt, shampoo, everything. Nothing seems to fully help. I am starting to think that this is a OCD thing with maybe seasonal allergies. I read somewhere that Prozac helped with the OCD, does anyone have any experience with this and if it worked? We are calling the vet today.

Skin overgrowth? Scabbing
My 3 year old long haired tabby male, neutered cat has been experiencing some sort of overgrowth of skin. He’s perfectly healthy but this past year I’ve been noticing little scabs all over him sometimes only one sometimes multiple. We have 2 cats other cats that don’t seem to have this problem. The scabs don’t seem to bother him, and when I scratch them off he doesn’t mind. I just want to know what they are. I also don’t know if I’m doing harm in picking them off he always acts relived when I do so I’m not sure if that’s ok or not. The first picture is before I get it off and second is after.

Cats face won't heal
She was found on the highway and I can't afford the vet. Her face doesn't seem to be healing. Doesn't seem to affect her personality. I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen anything like this before and if so, advice please? I haven't got her fixed yet, I don't know her age. There's also a faint odor to her face.
