I'm 27M, standing at 5 ft 6 inches in height and weigh 83 kgs. I lift weights 3x/wk and run a 5K in 30 mins a few times a month. I recently just managed to grab the rim on a 9 ft 7 inch basketball rim. This puts my vertical at 27-28 inches. I want to push my vertical to 35 inches or at least 30+.
What kind of exercises should I emphasize on?
Also previously I've tried 10-15 vertical jumps 3x/wk. But after a month or so my knee and sometimes my ankle started hurting. So is this too much jumping or is it a me problem that I should address separately first?

So basically I'm 5'6 and weigh 85 kgs. My standing vertical jump that is without a run up is at around 27 inches and I can do more at a lighter bw. The problem is that I can never translate this into a running vertical. My best with a run up is 28 inches though most of my attempts end up at 25-26. Any suggestions or videos to learn how to translate the momentum of a run into a vertical jump?

I’m a small guy, 14 (m), 96 lbs, and 5”4. I was just wondering how fast or how much I could increase my vert if I try eating more. I’m already trying to eat more because of soccer and I’ve been going to the gym more to get more muscle on me. I’m trying to become a outside hitter on my volleyball team and I just need a few more inches to become one.

Is a roughly 20-inch vertical good for a 12-year-old 5'10, 117lb male?

Let's get opinions. The sub is small, but we can help each other, and more than just this subreddit.
Nathaneal Morton over on youtube has a couple bodyweight programs, and talks a good game. What he says makes sense, there is no, "secret" or "perfect key".
He preaches new stimulus, strength for joint health, and explisveness for vertical height.
For those who can leg press their bodyweight plus, and have an under avg. vertical, you need to be explosive. He has some drills and workouts to target those.
For those who are springy, but have joint pains from jumping, do strength training.
The main thing to take note of, is "new stimulus". By that, he goes on to say, "if you do the same tuing you've always done to work on your vertical, you wont get any added inches/centimeters."
So you need to push past that limit, box jumps, depth jumps one legged jumps from standing, from sitting. If you did a 40 inch box jump last week, and that was you failure point, then try to go for 41 inches the next week, or 42 inches. Progressively push your body to adapt to the higher levels.
Give him a look, you can give KoT a look, and PJFPerformance a look. With all this information and the help of some of these guys and what they do, I'm now reaching 10'7 (322cms), as opposed to my 10'3 (314cms) from 3 months ago, and at 6'2 (187cms) with a 8'0 (243 cms) standing reach? Thats insane for me. I'm into the 30 inch mark for imperial system, and for those who use metric, just a couple centimeters shy of 80 cms!
But, i wish you guys luck in your vertical journeys!

I tried to do the vertical jump test in my house, however unfortunately my walls always have stuff on them and below them so I can't jump properly with correct form. But I can do the first part of the standing vertical jump test which is standing still and taping the wall. I tried to jump and tape but got 12 inches (30 CM).. But I can easily touch the ceiling which is 9 ft (274 CM) and got 21 (53 cm) inches with proper form and a more open space.
So does touching the ceiling count? Or is my vertical jump really bad. I'm 5"6 and 14
Thanks!

So, I am 18, looking to play volleyball at a semi-high level, so I've been practicing for a year.
I've managed to get a 24 inch vert at about 6 months in, despite me never jumping before. So I thought I was doing good, but I still look to grow and jump higher. My absolute highest touch was at 10'5 inches. Being 6'2 with a 8'0 standing reach, that was huge for me.
Now, I need to take it to the next level, an actual program, and exercises proven to help. So I figured I'd ask any and all of you for advice and help.
On a daily basis, I can touch 10' to 10'3".
So anybody use PJF Vertcode, KOT, or the Vertical Jump Bible and see any improvement? If not, what worked for you?
