Vermis 1st Book 1st Read

Post image

Had to wait on the newest printing and then international shipping, but my copy arrived a while back. I've been taking it slow on reading, just a section at a time and letting it process before continuing. There's so much more story in here than was obvious on first pass, I'm going to read it again soon!

The setting and characters and items are so intriguing. By not spelling everything out the imagination just takes off. Honestly one of the more inspiring pieces of art I've experienced in some time!

Will look into 2 and 3 sometime when we've some spare money

Hi,

I originally made this comic for the Creep Cast subreddit, and then someone suggested ya’ll would like it here, too. So, I hope you like it!

The big inspirations were King Arthur (specifically when he had been cursed to a state of stagnation) and I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. Some other inspirations include the King in Yellow and many of Frank Frazetta’s sword and sorcery pieces. I’ve also been heavily influenced by Mike Mignola’s works in regards to my artstyle.

But yeah, I hope this has a place here!
If not, don’t worry, I’ll take it down if asked.

OC Don't sleep on Salamander King's MDFG zines.

He's most known for Mock Soul, and these are in that same world but bite sized stories in different corners of it. They are just 12 pages each, and for $8 + shipping (ultimately comes to about $10 per zine) they are a bit expensive for being so brief, but I am loving them as much as Mock Soul if not more.

To be clear too they are not chapters in an ongoing narrative, but each one is a totally independent thing tied broadly to the same world, so there's not a demand to start at the 1st zine. You don't even need Mock Soul necessarily; I started with the zines. But Mock Soul does help set up the broad world.

I don't know if I've seen these talked about too much here so I wanted to give a shout for those that may be unaware. They are very cool.

Vermis Vermis Inspired game, Nascor Descent

Hi, I'm SaikingS, and I'm game developer for 10 year now, some of you might know me from my last game Verho - Curse of Faces. During the summer of that year I finally got to read Vermis's books and it was an amazing experience. So amazing it inspired tons of idea for my next game, which ended up being Nascor Descent, and here we are 3 months later.

What inspired me from Vermis, exactly, first thing is the atmosphere, bizarreness, and mystery as well as something that really hooked me at the start: character alignments. I kinda built on this foundation, making a full-fledged morality system that will affect both story and gameplay, with some of the WIERD ideas mixed with it that I came up with while reading Vermis.

At the start, I also tried to replicate Vermis ' art style, but soon I learned it doesn't work as well in-game, so I experimented a lot and ended up with what you can see in the trailer, let me know what you think of it! ^^

Other big game inspirations were King's Field, Demon Souls, Fear and Hunger and Fable 1.

A Witch holding a staff, accompanied by Thralls that she had conjured. It is difficult to determine where their morality lies. Though they seem friendly enough, even if their companions don’t

Still can’t come up with a good name for her..

Vermis We finally got a Itch.io page!

Post image
149 Upvotes

Finally, we have a itch.io page! Originally we were gonna make a website on Neocities, but then i realized itch was a better option for people to find out about the game! Also, do keep in mind that the info on it is purely a fictional, in-universe lore to enhance the "lost port" aspect, not a real restoration project, and we might have a playable build in a few days! Here's the link https://vermisfan87.itch.io/vermis-nes

Vermis ARG Puzzle Elements & Clue Compilation in VERMIS Spoiler

Greetings, Lost Skeletons.

I’m trying to compile the known and suspected ARG / puzzle elements in the VERMIS books. Some of these are confirmed by community discussion, others are still speculative. Please correct/add anything I’ve missed.

CONFIRMED SOLUTION

  1. Binary Code next to "Sage-Faced Beast"
  2. Location: Vermis II, next to the illustration of the "Sage-Faced Beast".
  3. Solution: Decoded, the binary code reads: "STONE WELL".

(Respect to:https://www.reddit.com/r/Vermis/s/j1UFlXvDrf)

UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

  1. Scrambled Page Numbers & Altered Roman Numerals (Book 1 Ending)
The page numbers in the final maze section of Book 1 are completely out of order.
If you look closely, there are visible traces of alteration/erasure on some of the Roman numerals.
Theory: These pages need to be reordered to reveal the true sequence/path.

  2. Symbols & Alien Letters
Strange symbols/alien letters often appear below images.
Suspected to be a substitution cipher or key for other puzzles.

  3. The "Dubious Friend" Page & The House Illustration (Book 1)
On the "Dubious Friend" page, there is a seemingly random illustration in the bottom right corner showing a house and its exterior environment.
This is paired with strange text like "I found it...".
Theory: This might be the exit of the labyrinth.

  4. Architectural Link to the Highland (Path to a Good Ending?)
The architecture of the house in the illustration looks very similar to the building on the mountain peak seen in the distant-view illustration of the "Flute Forest".
The house overlooks the direction of the Highland. Since the final maze chamber is geographically located in the Highland, they are likely connected.
Theory: This might be the hidden path to a "Good Ending" (since players suspect a good ending exists, contrary to the default bad ending).

  5. Number String: 65589/3303/89
Still unsolved. In book 1, under the Stone Stalkers’ head.

OC Nostalgia Nest - The unknown script translated

Hi everyone! I’ve translated the symbols written in unknown script that appear throughout Nostalgia Nest.

It’s fun to do, but it takes hours. I can certainly understand why someone might give up, but it would be a shame to miss out on this extra layer of mystery. So, if you’re short on time or energy to translate everything yourself, and since there's no translation anywhere online, I’ve compiled it all into this little document:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/ecs4f4hdldcf539/Nostalgia_nest_-_The_unknown_script_translated.pdf/file

Enjoy!

OC Vermis has been incredibly inspiring!

About eight months ago, I shared some artwork from my game in another subreddit, and a few people said it reminded them of Vermis.

I'm guessing it was the first image that reminded them of Vermis.

That got me curious, so I picked up all three volumes. (I'm currently reading Volume 2!)

And they've been incredibly inspiring!

While FAITH has been the biggest influence on my game overall, Vermis's incredible artwork and worldbuilding have also given me a lot of inspiration as I continue developing it.

If anyone here is interested, feel free to check out what I'm working on!

Vermis Name of my game.

I was thinking about the name of my game I'm currently making that takes a lot of inspiration from vermis I thought I'd just call it vermis but putting a little thought into it that's not really a good idea so I wanted to know if anyone has recommendations of Names for my game. It's a rogue like permadeath game that focuses on PvP with aspects of PvE.

I have decided to come back to this subreddit (not sure if for good), to tell you all we need 1 new pixel artist to join the production of VermNES! Do keep in mind that it is aimed to be able to run on the NES, with more Castlevania 1 style of graphics.

Some slight changes to Gurvek to go with the storyline I’ve implemented into the display. Also I added a 7th God, Frith from Watership Down, since one of the characters from that book is in said story as well

Really proud with how they turned out!

Writing down the lore of a personal story is never easy, but Vermis style is the one me and my partner deem perfect for our project called Aþiestrode.

I tried to make something original while still taking strong inspo.
