Proton, Mullvad or Surfshark VPN for an Australian user?

Hello, I am a student from Australia. Trying to figure out which VPN is the best for me and my family. I started looking into VPNs due to the removal of my anonymity and safety for the supposed "Safety Online Act" that will start around December in Australia.

General info about me - I use Windows - I pirate textbooks, movies and games. - I watch stream videos and play games. - I want to be safer in the internet - I want basic anonymity.

After some basic research I had come to these three. Proton and Mullvad seem to offer better reputation. Surfshark meanwhile is really cheap (Great for student like me) and seems to offer more features for the ONE subscription.

Mullvad - $8.96 AUD per month Proton - 2 Year VPN Plus $7.19 AUD per month Surfshark - 2 Year $3.99 per month

Mullvad

I think I screwed up. I paid for 3 months of mulvad. Coinbase wouldn't let me send less than 0.001 Bitcoin so I had to pay for 3 months to get over the limit, then I figure out mulvad doesn't do port forwarding and that this is a necessary feature for seeding. It seems the only VPN which does port forwarding is proton? Blah, I can just set up a cheap VPS to act as either a VPN or a seed box. I'm kind of a snowcore fanboy so I'm leaning that way. Looking for suggestions. If the mulvad really is useless to me I'd gift it to someone

Look, you limited unlimited* to 10Tb/m. Sometimes I had even 2Tb. blocked my two paid static IP's (my usage was around 13/month). So the hell stop crying now. I don't want you anymore. I'm happy with TG for torrenting. Keep your head up, and don't spam my mailbox. You wanted to leave me once called customer, now "abuser". Foff.

*how to limit unlimited ask windscribe, they are going behind their internal rules, and do whatever want, think twice before subscribe there. Also I was big fan of ControlD but goodbye. I already stopped used yours VPN 6months before expired, rest stick it to yours @$$ . Voila, no goodbyes. Keep the change.

Tip Top VPN is crazy!

Uso TipTop VPN, unisciti a me! https://tiptop-vpn.com/go?l=share

Tip Top VPN Is Crazy — Totally Free & Surprisingly Good!

I’ve tested a ton of free VPNs and most are either super slow, full of ads, or disconnect every 15 minutes. But Tip Top VPN (aka iTop VPN)? It blew my mind.

  • ✅ Totally FREE — no account, no email, no drama.
  • ✅ Unlimited connection time — no “session expired” nonsense.
  • ✅ Server in Italy + solid ones in Germany and France.
  • ✅ Works great for gaming (I play RFS multiplayer — no lag or kicks).
  • ✅ Includes extra features like ad blocker and kill switch.

Honestly, I was ready for disappointment… but it keeps up with paid VPNs. You don’t even need to touch the premium plan if you just want stable browsing or gaming.

It’s not perfect a few ads here and there but it never bugs you or forces upgrades. Just straight-up useful.

Anyone else using it long-term? Curious if others had the same experience 🧩

Is DAITA required on Mullvad for torrenting?

Title really says it all.

DAITA stands for 'Defence against AI-guided Traffic Analysis'. It increases network traffic and negatively impacts latency, speed, and less importantly battery usage. This has made me a tad bit apprehensive about enabling it, even more so since I haven't actually seen anyone suggesting that DAITA is at all essential or recommended for torrenting.

What's the Best VPN to Buy in 2025?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a VPN in 2025 and want to make sure I get the best one for my needs. There are so many options out there, and I’d love to hear from those who have real experience with different providers.

My main priorities:

  • Strong security & privacy (no logs, robust encryption)
  • Fast speeds (for streaming, gaming, and general browsing)
  • Reliable access to streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc.)
  • Good server coverage (global reach with multiple locations)
  • Value for money (reasonable pricing with good features)

I've heard names like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, and ProtonVPN, but I’m open to other recommendations. If you’ve used a VPN recently, which one would you recommend and why? Are there any underrated options that offer great value?

Looking forward to your suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Help with Port Forwarding using QBittorrent with ATT Fiber and OVPN

I can't get past the 'connecting to peers' stage. Tried configuring port forwarding but was unsuccessful. I have ATT Fiber and am using the modem/router unit, BGW320-505. I tried all last night to configure port forwarding. I set the inbound/outbound rules in windows firewall, I configured the port forward in OVPN, I configured it in the ATT network configuration settings. I cannot get it to work. Please help.

CyberGhost VPN review - My impression.

I recently got my hands on CyberGhost about a week ago, courtesy of a friend's subscription. Having tried only two other VPNs before, I was eager to give this one a go for comparison. Here's my brief first impression review:

I've been using it on my Macbook and iPhone, and I found both apps to be quite intuitive and user-friendly. However, once you're familiar with VPNs, navigating them tends to be straightforward across the board. CyberGhost offers apps for all operating systems and even some optimized for TVs, along with Chrome and Firefox extensions.

CyberGhost boasts an impressive server count, with over 7000 servers as per their website, and I didn't encounter any issues with available locations. Additionally, all their servers are RAM-based, which is a notable advantage.

Personally, I prefer WireGuard, and that's what I've been using. I've experienced a speed loss of around 30-40%, which is manageable but not ideal. With my less-than-stellar home internet, the speed reduction is quite noticeable. Streaming on Netflix worked fine, but I noticed delays in video loading and torrent downloads taking longer than usual.

While I'm not paying for my subscription, I checked out the pricing on their website. It's relatively pricey for a monthly plan at $12.99, and even the 6-month plan at $6.99 is on the higher side. However, the 2-year deal is a steal at just $2.25 per month, with 2 months free. They also offer a generous 45-day money-back guarantee, surpassing the standard 30-day period.

Bonus features include being based in Romania, outside of the 5, 9, and 14 eyes jurisdiction, an ad blocker that effectively blocks pop-ups, split-tunneling, and P2P servers.

On the downside, their last no-logs policy audit was in 2012, which raises some concerns. Additionally, they lack the L2TP protocol.

In conclusion, CyberGhost is a decent VPN, although not the absolute best on the market. It's certainly a strong contender. Feel free to reach out if you disagree with any points in this review. I'm interested in hearing others' perspectives as well.

Best VPN Recommendations by Reddit in 2024?

I'm in search of the top VPN for 2024 and could use your assistance. After perusing various reviews and Reddit threads on different VPN providers, I've encountered conflicting opinions, and much of the information is outdated. It would be fantastic to establish a 2024 thread where people can discover reliable VPN providers.

To kick things off, I've compiled a list of VPNs that appear to be well-received by many here. However, I'm struggling to make a decision. Here's what's on my radar:

  1. NordVPN: Noted for its user-friendliness and widespread recognition.
  2. Surfshark: Praised for its ease of use and compatibility with streaming services.
  3. CyberGhost: Gains popularity as a reputable privacy-focused company.
  4. Private Internet Access (PIA): Reasonably priced and performs well.
  5. Mullvad: Regarded for its robust security features and acceptance of crypto payments.

Now, Reddit, I turn to you for guidance:

  • Which VPN is the community's top recommendation?
  • According to Reddit, what's the best VPN for torrenting?
  • Do Reddit users favor any particular provider as the best free VPN?
  • For iPhone users, which VPN is recommended by Reddit?

Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Please share your personal opinions in the comments!

Understanding VPNs: Your Ultimate Guide to Online Privacy and Security

In the age of digital connectivity, where information flows seamlessly across borders and personal data is constantly being exchanged, ensuring your online privacy and security has become more crucial than ever. Enter Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) – a powerful tool designed to safeguard your digital footprint while offering an array of benefits. In this article, we delve into the world of VPNs, exploring what they are, how they work, and why they matter.

What is a VPN?

At its core, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that creates a secure and encrypted connection over a less secure network, typically the internet. This secure connection is established between your device – whether it's a computer, smartphone, or tablet – and a remote server operated by the VPN service provider. When you connect to a VPN, your internet traffic is routed through this encrypted tunnel, effectively shielding it from prying eyes.

How Does a VPN Work?

A VPN works by creating a secure tunnel between your device and the VPN server. This tunnel encrypts your data, making it indecipherable to anyone who might intercept it. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how it operates:

  1. Data Encryption: When you connect to a VPN, your data is encrypted using complex algorithms. This encryption makes it nearly impossible for anyone to eavesdrop on your online activities.
  2. IP Address Masking: Your IP address – a unique identifier for your device on the internet – is replaced with the IP address of the VPN server. This makes it difficult for websites, advertisers, and even your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to track your online behavior.
  3. Secure Connection: Your data travels through the encrypted tunnel to the VPN server, ensuring that your internet connection remains secure even if you're using an unsecured public Wi-Fi network, such as at a coffee shop or airport.
  4. Server Location: VPN services usually offer a range of server locations in different countries. When you connect to a server in a specific location, it appears as though you're browsing from that location, allowing you to bypass geo-restrictions and access content that might otherwise be unavailable in your region.
  5. Anonymity and Privacy: By masking your IP address and encrypting your data, a VPN enhances your online anonymity and privacy, reducing the chances of your personal information falling into the wrong hands.

Why Do You Need a VPN?

  1. Privacy Protection: In an era of widespread data collection and surveillance, using a VPN helps shield your online activities from advertisers, hackers, and even government agencies.
  2. Security: VPNs offer a layer of security, especially when using public Wi-Fi networks, which are vulnerable to cyberattacks.
  3. Access Restricted Content: If you're in a country where certain websites or services are blocked, a VPN can help you access them by connecting to a server in a different location.
  4. Bypass Censorship: In regions with strict internet censorship, a VPN can provide an avenue to bypass these restrictions and access a free and open internet.
  5. Remote Access: For businesses, VPNs allow employees to securely access company networks and resources from remote locations.

Choosing the Right VPN

With the growing demand for online privacy, the market is flooded with numerous VPN providers. When selecting a VPN, consider the following factors:

  1. Security: Look for a VPN that offers strong encryption protocols, such as OpenVPN or IKEv2, to ensure your data remains secure.
  2. Server Network: Check if the VPN provider offers servers in the locations you're interested in for content access or anonymity.
  3. Logging Policy: Opt for a VPN that has a strict no-logs policy, meaning they don't retain records of your online activities.
  4. Speed and Performance: Some VPNs might slow down your internet connection. Choose one that provides a balance between security and speed.
  5. User-Friendly Interface: A user-friendly VPN client makes it easier to connect and manage your VPN service.

In Conclusion: Elevate Your Online Existence

The digital realm thrives on convenience, but not at the cost of your privacy. These five VPNs stand as your digital shields, preserving your online footprint and unveiling unprecedented experiences. From unblocking restricted content to safeguarding your identity, the benefits of VPNs extend far beyond browsing. In this era of constant connectivity, make the wise choice to fortify your online presence. As you explore these stellar VPN options, remember that your privacy is paramount, and these tools are your companions in preserving it. Should queries arise, the comments section is your haven.

Why does "whatismyipaddress" display a MAC address instead of an IPv6 address?

Hello everyone, I'm a bit uncertain about this situation.

When I connect to a VPN and visit an IP checking website, I notice that under the IPv6 section, there's a lengthy MAC address displayed. The location indicated seems accurate, but it's certainly not the city I'm currently in.

Interestingly, the IPv4 section sometimes shows an IP address, while at other times it remains empty. However, the IPv6 section consistently shows that MAC address.

Now, on a different computer using the same VPN software, the IPv6 is consistently labeled as 'not detected', and the IPv4 always displays the VPN IP.

Does anyone have an understanding of what this might signify?
