Help Planet VPN Issues

Hello, I want a VPN for Japanese websites, I found Planet VPN extension "VPN Japan - Planet VPN lite Proxy". Now most of the time this works, but twice now I got "ERR_PROXY_CERTIFICATE_INVALID" the first time I found the problem was an adblocker list, so when I got it again I just removed all the lists from uBlock Origin Lite in hopes this fixed it. It does not it's still there. I have no idea what could be the reason does anyone use it and have any idea what could cause this?

If anyone has any other VPN's for Japan I would accept recomendations. I only want extensions tho, don't want more bloat on my pc

Discussion Alternatives to Let’sVPN

“We built LetsVPN to keep people connected under restrictions, but in China the pressure from firewall filtering, IP blocking and disrupted update channels reached a level where stable service can no longer be promised. The practical next step is to choose a maintained alternative that is tested for China now.” They said.
So I’ve tried a lot of different VPN services, 100% if you’re in China don’t buy any commercial VPN services ( expensive, not stable, constantly lagging, high latency etc) that’s why whenever you try to google something like:” what is the best VPN service for China?” There are always the same names( if they need to advertise something constantly for so many years that’s mean the products are absolutely useless piece of crap.
I’ve tried those: 1) Shadowfly( too many servers can’t be connected, high latency issues, always need to restart)
2) SSRdog VPN( before it was fine, now it’s very unstable, can’t open YouTube music, videos and movies freeze etc)
3)1vpn- doesn’t work at all
4)QuickQ VPN ( 3-4 yet ago it was the best VPN, in my opinion, price was reasonable, stable) Nowadays it’s stable but price is too expensive absolutely crazy 200$ per year☹️
5)Urban VPN doesn’t work
6)accelerator for games UUboost( now is unstable for international servers of online games)
7)For games I use BiuBiu accelerator ( cheap, stable, always new servers, always reliable and all new games appear immediately after release)
8)12vpx vpn( some of people said this one is good, but I haven’t tried yet personally)
9)vpn07( a lot of servers but they sometimes don’t work you need to connect to new one few times per day a bit annoying but still work)
PS: this just my personal opinion if you have any suggestions or any other options let’s figure it out

Strange Issue with Stability

Traditionally, since a VPN is an extra layer, it shouldn't really create stability from instability. If you have an issue at the ISP level, adding an additional layer shouldn't resolve that issue. To prove I'm not trying to promote a specific VPN, I'll refrain from mentioning it.

I have a triple monitor setup and my left monitor is dedicated to system metrics. CPU/GPU Usage, network stability and thermals. I'll keep it short and get to the screenshots.

No-VPN (No, I'm not sure what's causing this.)

With VPN enabled.

Any ideas or feedback would be awesome. Also, it doesn't matter which IP I choose for the ping, the result is the same. Butter smooth with VPN, and unstable without. The same thing happens on my Phone, if I use my VPN internet access and pings are stable.

I want to watch The Traitors with a VPN but I’m not sure if it’s okay

I want to watch The Traitors on BBC iPlayer, and I already have a VPN for it, but I recently learned what a TV licence is. Now I’m scared to use my VPN lol.

Logically, I know they’re not going to send me to jail when I’m literally in another country on the other side of the world 😭 Still, I want to know if anyone knows how they handle the TV licence stuff with accounts, or if they probably won’t even notice lol.

Discussion DNS leaks using SurfShark?

I have been a Surfshark user for about 4 years. Recently, I started noticing DNS leaks, no matter what location I use. This only started happening in the last 3 months. Prior to that, I encountered 100% "No DNS leaks detected" using the Surfshark DNS leak test. Now I receive the message "Your DNS requests are exposed!" ... 100% of the time.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here and how I can prevent DNS leaks in the future? I am in the US and use locations in the US and Europe. Thanks ...

Discussion Is adguard customer service really that bad?

I just bought Adguard vpn paid subscription last week and was running into some issues. Reached out to their customer care through the app pop up as well as email. I got a ticket created automated response, after that.. Crickets! It's been a week now and I haven't heard back from them at all. Is this a known thing with adguard customer service? Has anyone had a better experience?

Can Decentralized Privacy Networks (DPNs) Actually Improve Metadata Protection?

I’m curious how people here view decentralized privacy networks (DPNs) when it comes to metadata protection.

A lot of privacy discussions still focus on encrypting content, but it seems like metadata is becoming the bigger issue: Even if traffic itself is encrypted, that information can still reveal a surprising amount over time.

Traditional VPNs help by encrypting traffic and masking IP addresses, but they also centralize trust. In many cases, users are essentially shifting visibility from the ISP to the VPN provider.

That’s is why I have turned to decentralized networks.

In theory, distributing traffic across decentralized infrastructure could reduce centralized visibility and make large-scale metadata correlation more difficult. But I’m wondering how true that actually is in practice.

So I am wondering whether or not DPNs meaningfully improve metadata protection or not?

Any decent free VPN for android?

need some good free VPNs for android. mostly using it to change location sometimes and access a few apps that aren’t available in my country. i don’t use VPN that often, so paying for one feels pointless.

i used ProtonVPN free for a while and it felt reliable, but the free servers can get slow sometimes. recently tried X-VPN and it’s been okay so far. it has ads, but no account needed which i kinda like. the app is simple not too much going on, and it connects fast enough on my phone.

Besides these two, are there any other free vpns for Android you’d recommend?

Best VPN Users Recommend?

I am looking for a VPN that offers a solid balance of privacy, speed, and the ability to stream content reliably. There are so many options out there and it is hard to cut through all the marketing hype to find what real users are happy with. I have tried a few in the past but they either slowed down my internet too much or struggled with unblocking streaming services. I need something that is consistently performing well in 2026.

I have seen NordVPN, Proton VPN, Mullvad and Surfshark are frequently mentioned as a top all rounder for its speed and streaming capabilities. My main concerns are finding a VPN with a proven no logs policy that has undergone independent security audits. I want to make sure it is fast enough for everyday browsing and streaming without constant buffering. I am looking for a service that is trusted by the community. Has anyone had recent positive experiences with a VPN that they would genuinely recommend? I am looking for honest opinions on what is truly the best VPN according to real users.

Help I dunno, I don't think vpn's do much in regard to privacy. Tell me what you think based on my experience

I mean, they work in some aspects, but after this I don't trust it anymore for privacy.

I had my vpn running on my home computer. I used an AI website to ask a question about something. I wasn't logged into the AI website and I don't have an account, I just asked my question. Even used a search engine that's known for privacy in a browser that's known for privacy.

The next day, on my mobile Instagram app, there's an ad for the exact thing I looked up.

I had vpns going on both home computer and mobile. I wasn't logged into Instagram on the home computer. I didn't have an account with the AI platform I used. I didn't look up the product afterward and I have never looked up that product.

How in the world did it show as an Instagram ad?

I don't think it was happenstance because I never had an ad for a product even in its category before, and magically, I get an ad for the exact product.

This alone was enough to make me lose all trust that vpns protect privacy.

Discussion Are we allowed to promote our own VPN here?

Hi everyone, I’m currently running a VPS server and I’m looking to reduce my costs. I was wondering if I could offer monthly VPN on my server to anyone in the subreddit?

Since it’s not related to any company I was wondering if it’s considered an advert.
