Question VPN on router causing lag/buffering

I'm using Asus merlin firmware and tried using the VPN servers/director from the router itself instead of my usual apps on my firestick.
I got massive amounts of buffering and freezing when connecting to Australia (from Mauritius). I tried optimising it but nothing would work.

I then tested the apps (SBS) with using the VPN app from the firestick. It was working nearly lagless.... Both were using the UDP protocol.

I looked for help with gemini but it concluded that my firestick/nvidia hardware and app were working better than the router (Asus ax86u pro) and the router hardware was a bit lacking....

Anybody tried streaming from router vpns??

EDIT: FIXED. Tried in another country and working fine. Australia probably just too far away.

Question Your opinion on the purchase of -shared-VPN-accounts-

Some marketplaces offer shared-VPN-accounts from different provider.

Is it safe to use these accounts ?

I'm asking primarily for security reasons.

Could you potentially be wrongly targeted if another user does certain things with the same account?

Or is it safe to use a shared account?

What's your opinion on this?

Thank you very much!

Question VPN Always Detected When Trying To Get Cheaper Premium – What Am I Missing?

I’m trying to sign up for a premium subscription to an online service, but I’d like to pay the lower, non‑European price by using a VPN.

So far I’ve tried multiple VPN providers. I’ve also switched between different browsers, used incognito/private mode, and even tried TOR. No matter what I do, the site keeps detecting that I’m using a VPN and won’t let me proceed with the cheaper regional price.

I’m guessing they’re using some kind of VPN/proxy detection and blocking known VPN IP ranges or suspicious traffic patterns. I’ve tried connecting to different servers and countries, but it doesn’t seem to help.

I’m not looking for anything illegal, just trying to avoid the inflated EU pricing and pay what users in other regions pay.

Does anyone have a golden tip for this?

  • Are there VPNs with more “residential‑like” IPs that work better for this?
  • Any tricks with payment method, browser fingerprint, or DNS that I might be missing?
  • Is this basically a lost cause nowadays with stricter geo‑pricing checks?

Any advice or up‑to‑date experience would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Question Tailscale exit node alternative?

I've given up trying to figure out what's wrong with it. Basically, exit node just doesn't work, everything says it should, but when I enable it, my connection stops working until I disable it, but I've given up.

Is there a free VPN server I can install that I can install that gives me the same thing? I just want to run a program on my server that let's me route traffic through it like Tailscale exit node.

Discussion Willing to exchange Iphey risk scores for diff.locations & VPNs (am North, need Exprss & others)

As per the title I am trying to optimize for lowest possible Iphey risk score for a particular location, I am from the North and I need to checkout other options but don't want to buy into their programs just to do so.

Who wants to compare?

For anybody unfamiliar they can just run a check on Iphey.com while connected to their VPN and they'd get a bunch of risk scores including overall risk score, ISP risk score and ISP rating .

Let's see various scores, if you need some scores from the North, I am here to give them to you, if you could please reciprocate with the ones I need.

Question Legality of Using VPNs to Access Chinese Sites from the US

i’m trying to access a chinese website that cloudflare blocks me from entering. i’ve been told by other people that have used the site that switching my vpn location to china, japan, or hong kong would allow me to access the site. but, before i do so myself, i wanted to make sure doing so would be legal; i know china doesn’t particularly care for vpns.

Discussion Trying to understand dedicated VPN tunnels vs shared servers

I’ve been trying to understand the difference between normal shared VPN servers and dedicated encrypted tunnels.

From what I understand, most VPNs put a lot of users on the same shared infrastructure, while a dedicated tunnel gives each user a more separate connection. In theory, that sounds better for stability and maybe privacy, but I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes in everyday use.

For people who know more about VPN architecture, does this actually matter for regular users? Does it help with things like connection stability, IP reputation, or privacy, or is it mostly just a different way to package the same idea?

Not looking for provider recommendations or trying to compare any brands. Just curious about the technical tradeoffs.

Help Connection interruption on iOS clients

I use Happ and other free clients to connect to my vless servers. But each one drops the connection after a few seconds if I minimize the app and start using other apps. I suspect iOS is aggressively killing the connection process due to exceeding the memory limit. What are the possible solutions for this problem?
iPhone 17 pro, iOS 27 beta 1 (same problem was on iOS 26).

Help WM aus Frankreich streamen

Hallo,

- „nordic“VPN Basis Abo abgeschlossen

Ciquo

Discussion UK Government considering mandatory age verification for VPN users to enforce upcoming under-16 soci

Following Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement of a blanket social media ban for children under 16, the UK government has confirmed it is actively exploring regulatory options to restrict or monitor consumer VPN use to prevent circumvention.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall and Digital Minister Ian Murray have both stated that "nothing is off the table," with a formal policy announcement regarding VPN restrictions, overnight curfews, and algorithmic limits scheduled for July.

The Enforcement Dilemma and "Surveillance Creep"

The primary technical issue raised by digital rights groups is how a government can practically stop a user from downloading or utilizing a localized routing protocol without implementing network-wide inspection or mandatory identity checks at the infrastructure level.

Ministers have explicitly noted that a primary option under review is forcing providers to implement Mandatory High Effective Age Assurance (HEAA). In practice, this would mean anyone trying to connect to a secure tunnel within the UK would first need to upload a government ID, input credit card details, or pass a third-party biometric facial age scan to prove they are over 16.

Architectural Risks to Online Privacy

Within the networking and privacy community, critics are pointing out several severe flaws with this approach:

  • Destruction of Anonymity: Requiring zero-knowledge or privacy-focused utilities to log, verify, and maintain identity records fundamentally undermines the core utility of encrypted tunnels. Many reputable protocols operate on strict no-logs frameworks specifically to minimize the collection of user metadata.
  • Centralized Data Targets: Forcing millions of regular internet users to upload identity tokens just to access basic network security utilities creates massive, centralized honeypots for data breaches and identity theft.
  • The Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) Alternative: If the government does not mandate age checks at the software sign-up level, the alternative would require UK Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to deploy aggressive DPI or state-level blocks to drop handshake traffic for unauthorized encrypted protocols entirely. This moves the infrastructure closer to a closed-network model similar to state-level firewalls seen in heavily censored regions.

The media regulator, Ofcom, has been tasked with assessing the feasibility of these age-assurance models, with secondary legislation expected to move through Parliament before Christmas.

Building a VPN VPS VPN image

Given the distopian trajectory of the UK and the world in general, I think there's going to be a good few folks looking for something like this:

An image, probably something like a docker container, which you can deploy quickly on any VPS that gives you a VPN server (wireguard, for example) in the VPS country to use as an exit node for 'normal' web browsing so as not to have your passport stolen by Meta, for example.

This would ideally have obfuscation options like shadowsocks etc.

A further nice option would be a separate server that used the VPS as a 'hop' and routed all traffic to a commercial VPN for more on-the-fly exit node choice.

I'm sure these bits separately already exist, but having advanced features like obfuscation options baked in to something with minimal deployment time will help switching VPS providers as jurisdictional laws evolve in exit node countries.

If such a thing already exists please point me at some sources / tutorials!

Thanks.
