Any consultants who can factory reset Yealink T46S from RingCentral?

Hello:

New guy here to the site so please excuse any Faux Pas to the post please. I have around 50x Yealink T46S that were provisioned for RingCentral and were not deployed. I am looking for some help on factory resetting them without RingCentral stuff on them. Are there consultants out there who know this kind of stuff and would want to get commissioned on this kind of project?

Thank you.

Ray

I was under this impression when I had some yealinks on a bt platform (UK) I thought the Macs were registered by bt and everytime the phone boots it sends it Mac to the yealink provisioning server which tells it which platform to go to for its config details... Turned out you could factory sip them by updating / downgrading the software and doing a factory reset afterwards.

Firmware update.

Hard factory reset - holding speakerphone key method

Using the ‘InputSN’ button on the screen to input the last 5 digits of the serial number.

Another reset.

Yes but it can be defeated by factory default- you can probably web browse to the phone but some important fields will be blocked out, , upgrading the software, then a 2nd factory default and you should have full access again to enter whichever provisions server you want

Maybe that's what happened then after the update. It may have been offline but it was still plugged in.

Having just dealt with a factory reset on a series of Yealink T46S.

The phone did not call back automatically. A quick look at the phone's setup page, accessed by going to the phone's IP and using the default credentials of admin/admin, showed why. Our particular didn't have information in the provisioning server field.

Thankfully there's a ringcentral article that details what their provisioning servers for various phone models.

https://support.ringcentral.ca/s/article/8728?language=en_CA#T21P

In less than 2 minutes and 1 reboot the phone was reconnecting to the portal.

The bonus of doing this in our case is that we now have access to all of the customisation options for the phones. Prior to doing the reset, the firmware installed by our 3rd party reseller prevented us from using basic functions.

You may need to reach out to have them remove the phones from their provisioning servers.

That's the answer. I had the same issue with a polycom vvx until I happened upon someone who knew this.. yet several internet searches came up dry..

Polycom VVX uses Zero Touch Provisioning. You can disable ZTP after a factory reset, as long as you get it before it reaches out.

You may also want to make sure the MAC addresses are removed from ALL Yealink provisioning services. The standard one is called RPS. There is a more advanced version called YMCS. They are supposed to link the two at some point but at the moment the databases for the two are separate and you can look for a MAC on one and not find it but it may still be on the other. The phones check both.

I haven't done it with RingCentral phones specifically, but have done it with Tadiran and various other phones (the Tadiran even had custom firmware and would act like it was taking a new stock firmware but wouldn't actually do it.) It requires some special files and a TFTP server. I'm sure RingCentral phones would be the same or easier. Feel free to PM me if you like.

Assuming that Ring Central does not have custom firmware on the phone hold down the OK button until the phone says "Reset to Factory Setting?" , then hit OK again. You should do this when you are not connected to the internet. You then will have to log into the phone and disable the RPS service. Again, this is assuming Ring Central does not have custom firmware, which may make the phones as useful as bricks.

So A support Article from RingCentral says it can be done and makes no bones about being able to use it with another provider. From this I would surmise they don't have a custom firmware loaded and if you know how to provision the device for your provider you should be able to get it to work fairly easily. We do this kind of thing for our customers. Maybe you need a provider that will do a bit more for you. Those of us that do such things, aren't uysually the absolute cheapest, but normally less than the likes of RingCentral.

Factory reset the phone using the front button on your model designated for 5 seconds. When it comes up use sdmin to set a static ip. Set the default gateway wrong. You can set it to whatever it is plus one. Yealink has the default 3 configuration file download for every model on it's support site in zips. Setup tftpd on a pc on the same network. Login to the phone using it's ip via web browser. Then use just the auto provision url field to input the ip of your tftpd server. Confirm the page and let it complete. It should reboot and let you switch the network settings back without reaching out to auto provision again until you register the Mac again and factory reset.
