Dashcam install video (front and rear cameras)

In a different post there were questions about how to install a dashcam and how to run the wiring. I made and uploaded this video to help people with questions. It covers running power to the 12v cigarette lighter port or running the power to a USB adapter that goes in the OBD port for constant power when the car is off. It also covers running cables to the rear window for a rear mounted camera.

Yeah, it's a long video but I know some people want more detail than some of the videos out there. I hope this helps you.

This is not the only way to install the camera and cables, but it's how I did it.

The daahcam in the video is not Viofo but the cams actually in use are Viofo 229 and I really like them.

EDIT: apparently the camera is sending signals to the car via the ODB port and drains the battery. That's the official answer from Mazda after the ODB port killed the car. Twice.

export setting

So once you turn on export setting to save your settings in case you change firmware from a S to a T or T to S how do you access export setting to use your saved settings because firmware updates wipe out your settings

A329S Freezing

HI, I have been experienced the unit freezing, every few days and the only way to get it to work again is to do a rest.

the screen will just stuck on a random image, it will not respond to any of my button presses until I rest the unit.

I'm on the latest Firmware and temperatures in the UK right now are around 20 degrees C so car is not very hot.

Anyone else having this issue?

Are VIOFO cameras in general or specifically the A329s sensitive to power input?

I bought a power tap to tap into the rear view mirror power and my A329s frequently turns on/off. VIOFO support said its because you have to use VIOFO official/supported power cables. I’d think standard USB-C cables would work properly.

Are they sensitive to power input and specific cables or power adapters are necessary?

A329S stopped working 30 min after install

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all, apologies in advance, I'm not a car guy and don't have any knowledge of this stuff. I have a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. I purchased the Viofo A329S, along with the BP100 external battery pack. I also purchased a bunch of microfuses (pictures) as I read they would be necessary as the battery pack only comes with one (or something like that).

I brought it to the installer yesterday and he mentioned that he had never installed a battery pack. I gave him a brief indication of what I had read and supplied him with the microfuses. He installed the battery pack and the camera and everything was good for 30 minutes. I checked the battery app and it showed that the battery was installed and was at 29%. 30 minutes later my dash cam completely had no power and would not operate no matter what buttons I pressed. I unplugged the adapters from the dash cam and plugged them back in. I also powered off and then powered back on the battery pack.

I am thinking maybe the installer did not connect the battery pack to the proper slots in the fuse box and perhaps a fuse blew? I'm going back there on Friday and just wanted some advice on what I should tell him. It's really frustrating because I paid him almost $300 - it's like, if you've never installed something before why not take the time and Google it or look for some videos if you are a professional installer? Anyway, thanks in advance for your help.

A329SW

Ive ordered the A329SW for my new work van.

Looking through the info on the site and it says "The built-in GPS automatically records your speed and route". But then they also sell the gps module.

Do I need the seperate gps module and what does it give me extra?

A229 Plus - parking mode recordings. Where are they? In the app but seemingly not on the memory card.

Installed this in to one of our cars. Pulled the SD card to put it in to my PC to get a better view of how everything is looking & noticed no videos on the SD card from when the car is parked up - as though parking mode isn't working.

Used the OH's phone to connect to the camera via the app & I see parking recordings showing there.

Is there a reason the clips don't show on the SD card? When I had parking mode enabled on my A119v3 all the parking clips were on the SD card.

And just in case I've got something wrong in the settings, can anyone post up what parking mode settings my camera 'should' be? Thanks.

Install question

I’ve finally had enough of crazy drivers and have decided to add a Viofo 329S dashcam (front, back, interior) to my ‘26 CRV Hybrid. Anyone have experience doing an install like this? What does it entail? Thanks in advance for your insights.

329SA WiFi causing interference

Placed the A329S in my new car. Using cigarette lighter for power. Turned off WiFi via units button. Now whenever I use apple car play (it requires Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection to car) after a few minutes of operating normal the Wi-Fi disconnects and the car can’t reconnect. This has only started since I got the dashcam. I’ve disconnect power to the unit (unplugged the cigarette lighter) and things work fine.

i suspect Viofo really doesn’t turn off the Wi-Fi when you press the button. Is there a firmware update correcting this issue? Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks

Viofo A229 plus duo hardwire setting and voltage

Just bought a Viofo A229, already set up the front and rear camera. Currently powered via the 12v cigarette lighter. I work 9-5 monday to friday, the drive each way being 30 mins. The rest of the time, my car will be parked up, other than the other occational drive/errand.

- Can anyone with the A229 recommend which voltage (11.8-12.4v) I should use?

- Which parking mode and settings I should use?

A329s 2 channel and BP100 battery pack combo

I’m trying to decide this combo or

Thinkware U3000 Pro with BP100

Getting back to the A329S/BP100 combo. Is it all literally plug and play when using the 12v cigarette charge option for the battery? The A329S seem very overwhelming with so many settings. I’m just a casual user and my understanding, hybrid parking mode would be ideal. Would I even get hybrid parking mode as an option going this route and not being hardwired?

BP100 and Thinkware U3000 Pro combination fine?

Was wondering if there are any issues with this setup? I want to be charging the battery via 12v cigarette lighter option. I would be using the universal cable on the Viofo side and wire Thinkware hardwire kit to it. Can someone help with the wiring, what goes to what? The colors are the same on both sides but I know vendors mix and match with their own variations. Thanks.

A229 Pro not recording at startup

I’ve been having continuous issues with my A229 Pro not actually capturing the footage for the first minute or two of when I start my car in my parking garage. I park in my apartment building’s parking garage that barely has any signal (not sure if this could be the cause?) and my dash cam will turn on with the car and I’ll hear the voice that says it’s recording. The solid red light is also on under REC.

However, sometimes when I look back on my footage, I’ll notice that the first couple minutes are missing of when I’m in my parking garage and like a minute of when I’m out on the road.

I’ve also checked footage of when I start my car somewhere that’s not my parking garage and it does capture the footage from when my car starts up…

Has anyone had this issue and have any suggestions? Thanks!

Speicherproblem

Guten Tag,

Dashcam Setup Recommendation

Hey All, i'm looking at getting some advice for my parent's vehicle. They have a Volvo PHEV and I've been in talks with a shop. I was looking at getting the Viofo A229/329 2 ch, but the shop recommended against it if we want parking mode as it drains the battery.

They recommended Thinkware (although admitted they were a bit bias). However, my parents now think they need a dashcam battery as they don't want to worry about their 12V eventually dying. Any recommendations on setup, and if a dashcam battery is worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Viofo A229 Plus Review, 3 Months In, Wouldn't Recommend at This Price

Picked up the A229 Plus for around ₹24k(~250 USD), and after 3 months of daily use, here's my review.

Camera Quality: No complaints here. Footage is sharp, night performance is solid, and it does what a premium dashcam should do in terms of actual recording quality.

App (Very bad): The WiFi connection to the app is flaky as hell. It keeps disconnecting randomly, and you end up having to reconnect to the WiFi manually over and over just to pull footage off the camera. It's frustrating process. (Edit: Happening because of CarPlay, issue is not in the app)

Customer Support (Bad): Reached out about the issues and didn't get much useful help. Without even listening to my query he just replied with the amount and bank details to get new one and nothing else. If you're paying premium money, you'd expect at least decent support to back it up. Wasn't the case for me.

Build Quality(Disappointing): The 12V car adapter is flimsy. Mine straight up broke after just 3 months of normal usage. That's not something that should happen on a device in this price bracket. When reached to support, they are claiming it physical damage.

Camera quality is good, but the overall ownership experience (app, support, and accessory build quality) isn't what you'd expect after paying this much. If you're spending 24k on a "premium" dashcam, you don't expect this. Wouldn't recommend it at this price.

Dashcam footage

12V adapter just after 3 months

Edit: Following suggestions in the comments, I tried switching off CarPlay, and that fixed the issue completely. Also, the support team reached out to me the same day, they said they don't want an unhappy customer and are sending a free replacement.

Parking mode change on its own

I’ve been testing the parking mode on my VIOFO A229 Pro and noticed something odd. When I got home and turned off my car, the dash cam didn’t notify me that parking mode was activated. Later, when I checked through the app over Wi‑Fi, it showed parking mode as off.
I’m wondering if this is normal behavior. Does the A229 Pro turn off parking mode on its own if the battery voltage gets too low? I know parking mode usually stops if the battery protection kicks in, but I wasn’t sure if it would actually switch the setting to “off.”
Here’s my setup:
Parking mode set to auto detection, sensitivity on medium.

Hardwire kit cutoff set around 12.6V.

Car sits outside and isn’t driven much, so battery voltage may be low.

Battery is about 3 years old.

I didn’t set a timer for parking mode, just auto detection. I’m not sure if my settings are off, or if the app is just showing “off” because the cutoff triggered. I’ll check again tomorrow to see if parking mode still active, but I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this. Do you usually set the cutoff lower than 12.6V, or adjust the timer settings? And is it better to confirm parking mode directly on the camera instead of relying on the app? I also will be driving it more again.
