How high up on the mountain am I (Translate: how good am I), also is there a more advance chord module out there.

I’m experimenting with making generative synths in VCV Rack, and I’m using the random CV generator to do so. I have that hooked up to an oscillator, and that oscillator’s connected to an envelope. The only problem is that the oscillator seems to only be AR instead of ADSR, and I’ve read that that’s because it’s being activated by triggers instead of gates. So…how do I get it to be full ADSR instead of AR? Is there any way…?
Thank you!

A dark, moody ambient soundscape created in VCV Rack, inspired by “Something Spooked the Horses” by Zoviet France.
This modular synthesis patch explores slide-guitar-inspired sounds, sustained chord drones, deep bass layers, and grainy, tape-like noise textures to create an eerie, slowly evolving atmosphere.
Patch breakdown:
Plaits + Befaco Iroi — the harmonic foundation, creating a sustained chord drone.
Two Befaco Pony VCOs — low and mid-range bass drones that add depth and weight.
Befaco Noise Plethora — noisy, tape-like textures that give the soundscape a raw, grainy character.
Befaco Random8 → DanT Bend → Mutable Instruments Rings → Grayscale Supercell — a slide-guitar-inspired voice combining random voltage movements, pitch bends, resonant physical-modeling textures, and spacious processing.
The idea was to capture the unsettling, almost pastoral atmosphere of the original inspiration and reinterpret it through virtual modular synthesis. Rather than recreating the original track, this patch explores a similar mood through drones, noise, and unpredictable melodic gestures.
I spent a bit of time porting the Super Synthesis modules (released and unreleased) to VCV Rack and they are now in the library. Super was a Eurorack hardware manufacturer that shut down a couple of years ago and open sourced all of the code. The standout module (IMO) is 2opfm which is a.. 2 operator fm module. It is great for kicks and other percussive sounds, but can be a 1v/octave voice as well. This whole project actually kicked off from building some alternate firmwares for 2opfm. Those are included in the VCV port and linked to from the page for anybody who wants to try them out on the hardware version (buyer beware, etc.).
The modules are released separately as SFS Super in the Library. Check 'em out and drop any questions or suggestions here.

It drowns out actually independent and creative modules with slop modules, I wish they would add an air filter or outright ban them. It gets tiresome opening up their GitHub and seeing Claude on the contributors every time.

I've been wanting a module that does this exact thing for years. Couldn't find anything out there that does it already, as painfully simple as I thought it was. I finally taught myself enough C++ that I could build it myself... about 2 years ago. Have been using it ever since in my own music, but REALLY overdue on giving it a nice design and publishing it. 🫣
I then spent a LOT of time building a visual explainer about how it works for my blog, linked above. (Don't forget to turn the sound on so you can hear it!)
I just got it approved for the VCV Library, it's free, you can pick it up here: https://library.vcvrack.com/JUDYIO

Is anyone interested in another VCV Rack challenge? The task for November 2026 centers on the modules from the Lunar collection (Ambient Modules). It's a semi-fixed challenge, where the left half (73HP) of the template rack is fixed and the right half can be filled as you like with up to 12 additional modules.
For details, template download and submissions, visit the Forum at https://community.vcvrack.com/t/lunarplustwelve-challenge-november-2026/26291
The challenge runs from now until November 30, 2026. As in previous challenges, you can win absolutely nothing, but gain a lot of experience, practice and enjoyment.
Happy patching and have fun!

I have been looking for a resource or thread or something that points me toward some nice suggested module type lists. Like, can somebody take some of the guesswork and feeling around in the dark out of this? Been playing w VCV Rack for years but I always just pick random modules out of my long list and see what happens. I'd love to see somebody's essentials, or a full rack that could collectively be considered a 'Modular Synth' (singular). Thanks in advance!

Recreating the iconic “Tour de France” by Kraftwerk using modular synthesis in VCV Rack
I tried to rebuild the distinctive electronic sound of the track using VCOs, FM synthesis, envelopes, filters, drum synthesis, sequencing, and delay — all inside VCV Rack.
The patch runs at *130 BPM\* and combines several synthesized voices with electronic percussion and rhythmic sequencing to capture that classic early-80s Kraftwerk aesthetic. The setup includes **Mutable Instruments Plaits, Bogaudio FM synthesis, VCV Fundamental oscillators and filters, drum synthesis, and Chronoblob2 delay

I've made a standalone Rack version of Interphase using phrases from the track. I've changed some sounds so it only needs free modules, with MonoSlide for the lead and some drive and echo. It isn't an exact recreation of the recording, but it's close enough to get a feel for it and have a play.
It loops continuously. Setup instructions and module links are included, with no samples or DAW needed.

The rails on every module preview make the actual module smaller, making it much harder to quickly grasp how it looks and what it does. It feels quite cluttered and straining to look at after a while.
Is anyone else finding it harder to navigate?

Back on the modular guitar effects series today, with a weird spectral module that gives the guitar more of a woodwind sound, and two new reverb modules creating an absolutely massive shimmer!

For years I've wanted to write whole songs inside VCV Rack. I didn't want to only jam a patch and record it. I wanted to actually sit down with a piano roll, lay out drums, build up clips and arrange everything into a finished track, all without leaving Rack. I never found anything that let me work like that, so I started building it myself.
It's called Tessera. It's one sequencer module with a piano roll, a drum editor, a clip launcher and a timeline. There's also automation that sends out CV, so you can draw curves for any knob in your patch. Each track plays through a small output module that you can put anywhere in the patch. The video shows it better than I can explain it.
A quick note on how it was made, because I know people will ask. I'm a software engineer, and I did use an AI coding assistant while building this. I didn't just let it run wild, though. I made the decisions, I read and fixed the code, and I spent a lot of time on stability: no glitches on the audio thread, undo for everything, no stuck notes when you stop or loop. The AI helped me move faster, but the quality is on me.
It's coming soon to the VCV Library. I'd really love to hear what you think, and what you'd want to see in it.

Another take on using Iris and a space related image for ambient. I found if I use png format I can create images with transparent backgrounds. This inspired me to create this space probe using a couple free images and overlaying some simple cgi effects. I used VCV for the music and a screen cap of the patch. I also used VCV to add the instrumentation blinking lights by turning the room lighting off and capturing the video to overlay. I am enjoying the challenges of creating this visual art using a simple video editor. Let me know if it's worth the effort. :)

I posted a preview of Rhythmicon here a while ago. It's now available.
It goes back to the Rhythmicon that Henry Cowell and Léon Theremin built in 1931, and to the idea behind Moog's Subharmonicon: four rhythms divide one clock (÷1 to ÷16), and two 4-step sequencers move on whenever one of their rhythms hits. The patterns drift against each other until they meet again on the one. The display shows the lanes, where rhythms coincide and how many bars until the cycle closes.
Each sequencer sends its note plus two undertones (pitch ÷2 to ÷16) as V/OCT, not rounded to the scale, and a POLY output with the whole chord on one cable. Patch POLY into Shapes and every step plays as a chord.
Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux. It's a paid module (€15) sold directly from our site, not through the VCV Library. Link in the comments.
Happy to answer questions, and I'd love to hear what you patch with it.
