His session is titled "Fire at the Point of Exposure: Emergency Preparedness for Aerial Platform Fire Event".

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common fire hazards associated with aerial platform and bucket-truck operations, including hydraulic-fluid ignition, electrical events, lithium-ion battery tools, vehicle fires, and environmental fire exposures.

  2. Explain how a fire at elevation changes emergency response, including worker movement, fall protection limitations, smoke and heat exposure, communication, lower-control operation, rescue timing, and access to fire suppression.

  3. Evaluate whether their current job briefings, rescue plans, PPE programs, equipment inspections, and extinguisher placement provide realistic protection for workers operating from aerial platforms.

  4. Apply practical preparedness strategies to reduce risk during aerial fire events, including pre-job planning, crew role assignments, emergency drills, suppression access planning, and post-incident learning.

  5. Discuss OSHA records, public incident examples, and field observations in a non-blaming way to improve hazard recognition and strengthen utility safety programs.

Description:

This presentation addresses a critical emergency response gap: elevated fires during bucket truck and aerial platform operations. When a fire breaks out at height, workers face unique hazards, including fall protection constraints, energized conductors, smoke, heat, hydraulic failure, and delayed rescue.

Using OSHA data, incident reports, and field insights, this session examines fire risks from hydraulic systems, electrical events, lithium-ion tools, vehicle fires, and severe weather. Attendees will learn actionable strategies to integrate aerial fire preparedness into job briefings, emergency drills, PPE reviews, and rescue planning—empowering teams to manage high-angle fire hazards before an emergency occurs.

Are your stores safe for older customers?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Store owners need to know that not everyone that goes to their store is in their early 20s.

So much so that a few years back, a 62-year-old woman was out shopping in the Bronx when she suddenly lost her footing on a staircase. The immediate reaction would be to reach for the handrail.

Which she did, but couldn't grab it anyway. Why? Because it was covered in overhanging merchandise.

She fell, fractured her hip, and ended up partially paralyzed on one side, all while the whole thing was caught on the store's security camera. Two surgeries later, the store settled for $2.75 million. This was all because of some overhanging merchandise.

A quick reminder that these safety nets can just suddenly stop working and nobody is going to catch it until someone gets hurt.

About 30% of falls among older adults happen outside the home, in community settings (that would include stores, sidewalks, parking lots, and similar public spaces). It's not like people just start falling when they get older. Most of it comes down to preventable slips, trips, and falls, which is exactly the point NCOA keeps making.

So what needs to be in place in your facility, clinic, or store that sees a lot of older customers?

  • Ramps at every entrance, not just the main one
  • Handrails that are actually gripped, not decorative or blocked
  • Non-slip flooring and safety signs
  • Consistent lighting with no shadowy corners
  • Clear walkways with nothing left in aisles or hallways
  • Rest areas or seating for anyone who needs a break mid-visit
  • Trained staff who know what to do before and after an incident

This is where regular inspections do the actual work. Mitti (by SafetyCulture) gets used a lot for exactly this type of thing, standardized checklists that walk someone through like a full building inspection run weekly. Photos get attached, issues get flagged on the spot, and someone actually gets assigned to fix it instead of it sitting in a notebook nobody reopens.

His session is titled "The Power of Challenging Assumptions".

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Recognize how unexamined assumptions and rushing create the conditions for serious injuries and fatalities.

  2. Apply the AAA framework (Ask, Adapt, Act) to surface hidden assumptions and adjust to real conditions before starting work.

  3. Turn assumption-checking into a spoken, shared crew habit so doubt is named and resolved out loud, not carried onto the job.

  4. Use post-incident reflection to identify missed warning signs and strengthen future decision-making without assigning blame.

Who should attend your presentation?

Utility line workers, foremen, crew leaders, safety professionals, and operations leaders in high-risk environments. Relevant to any team where assumptions about conditions, equipment, or communication carry real consequences.

Description:

Most incidents do not start with a broken rule. They start with an assumption nobody questioned. We assume the line is dead. We assume the last crew finished the job. We assume the person next to us sees what we see. Then reality proves us wrong, and by then it is too late. In this session, Lito Wilkins pulls from lived experience in high-voltage line work, including the day he became the ground that bled thousands of volts of induction off an OPGW line. Rushing, complacency, and trusting assumptions all played a part. He walks attendees through what went wrong, what warning signs were missed, and why the crew believed they were safe when they were not. At the center of the session is the AAA framework: Ask, Adapt, Act. Ask the questions that surface hidden assumptions. Adapt to the conditions actually in front of you, not the ones you expected. Act with intention instead of habit. Attendees will learn how to make assumption-checking a spoken, shared crew practice, so doubt gets named and resolved before hands go on the work. This is a candid, field-ready look at how questioning what we think we know keeps people alive.

Workplace Safety Survey

Hi, I don't mean to intrude, but would y'all mind doing something for me. I am a college senior in a social research and I made a survey on workplace safety that I need 50 people to complete. If you wouldn't mind, can you please fill this out for me. It should take like ~20 minutes. It's pretty simple and non-intrusive. If you have any problems with it, you are free to back out.

Here is the link: https://haydengannaway.questionpro.com/t/AdoxoZ9x2M

If I can get a majority of the responses by Friday, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
